Sticky: Re: Tennis Players Random, Random

I forget what it was advertising, but there was some sort of jokey clip where they told Kvitova she was going to hit with "a fan" and it was a goofy old guy, then it was actually Berdych in crazy old...

    Re: ATP WTF London 11/10 - 11/17 2019

This week, there were at least 3 threads on Reddit pointing out Thiem giving a heartfelt compliment to another player's social media. I am firmly placing him in the category of Sweetie Pie.

    Re: ATP WTF London 11/10 - 11/17 2019

Let's take Berdych as an example. He's in the top 10 (!) all time for prize money won, and he DID beat all the legends in slams. The problem is that you don't have to beat one, you have to beat two...

    Re: ATP WTF London 11/10 - 11/17 2019

PHH had a small gap where he ditched Mahut to concentrate on singles, then still played doubles with Murray at Wimbledon.

There's a hilarious guy on twitter who's in love with Pouille, and when...

The Kvitova-Berdych (?!) picture is absolutely terrifying, and should never be shown again. Uncanny valley.

    Re: Davis Cup 2019

The picture and title feel gross to me. It's supposed to be a tabloid-esque thing? "Look how unhappy he looks!"? It seems mean.

    Re: ATP WTF London 11/10 - 11/17 2019

That's also true for just Federer and Djokovic, since Nadal's two finals are RU finishes to them. Crazy stuff.

This will be the 3rd WTF in a row that none of them win. Maybe next year we'll...

    Re: ATP and WTA prizes

For the ATP, the Newcomer award can only go to a player under 22 who made the top 100 for the first time. So there are only a handful of options, and they also only get one shot at it.

First since 2009. There was at least one 3-0 every year 2010-2018.

    Re: ATP and WTA prizes

    Those are all great picks.

I looked up the rules for ATP Newcomer, and the winner has to be a player 21 or younger who made the top 100 for the first time this year. I checked, and FAA started...

    :cheesy:

Thus begins my plan to slowly infiltrate the great Salisbury Empire. With my love of cheap meat and gravy, it was inevitable.

In seriousness, the poor man has probably heard plenty of...

    Re: ATP WTF London 11/10 - 11/17 2019

Sampras keeping it outright seems almost impossible, because it would mean none of the Big 3 ever get year end #1 again. A new #1 next year sounds way too soon. The nearest person, Medvedev, could...

Tsitsipas just took the first set over Medvedev in a tiebreaker. Really high quality set.

I don't think it's meant to be like calling him Hulk or Beast. Speed Demon is a fairly common term, so I think it's more about how fast he is.

Mmmhmm. Someone mentioned it on Twitter. It's the first time ever that the entire field is European.

Probably makes it a little tough to make Laver Cup seem competitive. Making the courts...
  20. Re: Year End Championships Scenarios for Nole/Rafa #1

I think that was mostly about be tired. He's won 2 small indoor tournaments this year. At that point, he had made the finals in his last 6 tournaments, so I think he was gassed out.

    As usual,...

    Re: Tennis Coaching Merry-Go-Round

That's a really bizarre one, but I think it's just Pliskova's nature. Rennae Stubbs helped her improve a lot, but they added Conchita to the team to sub in whenever Rennae had commentary...

  25. Re: Year End Championships Scenarios for Nole/Rafa #1

Djokovic is 640 points behind Nadal.

Because indoor hard is an okay surface for Djokovic, and possibly the worst surface for Nadal, and Nadal is injured, you'd have to assume Djokovic is still the...
