Vasek Pospisil following a loss to Milos Raonic in the final of the 2014 Citi Open.

    By Mariya Konovalova

    Sunday’s History in the Making
Not only was the Men’s Singles Final in Washington the first All-Canadian ATP final but also only the second final where both opponents were born in the 1990s. Washington missed that particular record by one day, as the first such final was played on Saturday in Kitzbuhel.

    Sunday’s Domination

Although their only previous meeting – in Montreal in 2013 – ended in a third-set tiebreak, the final between Vasek Pospisil and Milos Raonic proved ‘ImPospisil’ (to use a term he himself favors) for the lower-ranked Canadian. Second seed Raonic won 6-1, 6-4 in a straightforward manner.

    Saturday’s Canada Day in DC

For the first time in the Open Era, two Canadian players will meet in the ATP final, when Vasek Pospisil faces Milos Raonic on Sunday.

    Saturday’s Two for the Money

Karumi Nara, who was a first-time WTA winner in Rio de Janeiro earlier this season, is a surprise finalist in both singles and doubles at the Citi Open. The 23-year-old from Japan reached the Doubles Final on Saturday with partner and countrywoman Hiroko Kuwata (after losing all three prior doubles matches she had played in 2014). Earlier in the day, she prevailed over New Zealand’s Marina Erakovic in the first Singles Semifinal of the day.

    Saturday’s Trading Places

Nara’s chances looked slim early in the match, when Erakovic ran away with a 6-0 first set. The Kiwi looked destined for an easy win after winning ...

    By Christina Ward

John Isner was triumphant for the second year in a row at the BB&T Atlanta Open beating Dudi Sela 6-3, 6-4. Isner has seen much success at this tournament, reaching the final in four of the last five years.

At the start of the final, Sela unfortunately had a slow start and was broken in his first service game. The tone of the match was set after that first break. After being broken, Sela said, “[Isner] went for his shots and played more freely. It changed [the match] a lot." Sela was broken again at 1-all in the second ...

    By Christina Ward

The first singles semifinal match of the BB&T Atlanta Open featured Americans John Isner and Jack Sock. Sock recently beat the no.1 seed Isner for the first time in the Newport quarterfinals earlier this month. In the first set of their match on Saturday, Isner and Sock held serve easily until a nearly 15 minute nine deuce game on Sock’s serve at 5-6. Isner broke on his third set point and won the first set 7-5. Serving at 4-5 in the second set, Sock double faulted to lose the match 7-5, 6-4. Tiebreaks are not unusual ...
