    Interesting. Thanks!

    My only question, though, is why use a different ranking point system than the existing one?

    ===============================

    Because WTA changes their points distribution more often than I'm comfortable with. I'm trying to build ranking, which can be consistently applied to different years.
    In the end it really does not matter - what point values certain tournaments have. What matters is what are their relative values to the Slams (I consider Slams always having the same values). With that in mind my points’ distribution keeps the same (or very similar) ratios with Slam points as the current WTA ranking system.

    With regard to lower rounds - points for semis, quarters, etc. - a while ago I've decided to have 40% decrease with each round (rather than 30%, which was used by both tours at that time). Later both tours changed their point distribution and for ATP it is almost exactly 40%, while WTA is less consistent (I can't find the pattern in their point distribution from round to round).

    This is my ranking anyway and I can assign whatever points I like (but keeping in mind that actual WTA ranking points are known to players and may influence the level of effort, which goes to each particular match)

    I’ve also introduced so many components, that final result depends less on WTA/ATP ranking values of particular tournaments and more on objective components (number of tournaments won, number of matches won, win-loss percentages). Exception made for Slams – their value is elevated by higher weights.

    thanks for posting - I'm surprised Zvonareva didn't end up higher in the overall rankings. Always fun to see a surprise like Capra show up in a category - interesting what one good tournament can do when it's the only one you play all year.

    I think the main reason is that she won only 1 tournament.
