I agree with most of your list, but your #2 would be my #1 and vice versa. And I would put the Schiavone match higher. That match excited me a lot. I also really liked the Kudryatseva-Sharapova match from Wimbledon but mostly only for the drama.

    Munchin,
The list was very difficult to come up with for beginners. Also, understand why you and I differ on the top 2 but what did it for me was they both came down to a deciding tiebreak with Serena saving 10 match points along the way against one of the better closers in the WTA but if Serena/Jelena USO went into a 3rd set, who knows how my list would have turned out. Fran/Justine was a battle which Fran was finally able to come up with the crucial points. Also, noticed that Fran/Justine was the highest ranked match that was not a Slam or the Olympics.

wonderful list, Patrick. But I'd like to make an argument for one of my faves of the 2008 season. Jelena over Sofia Arvidsson in the 2nd round of this year's USO, 63 67 (5) 75. It was the match that, for me at least, proved Jelena was every bit the successor of ASV and Kim in retrieving skills, and also proved that, perhaps if Sofia had the right backing, coaching and support a couple of years ago, her career would have been quite different than it has turned out to be. I loved everything about their battle, including all the tension we Jelena fans suffered through, all the promise that Sofia displayed, and all the gorgeous smiles these two were able to show when they made another wonderful shot - of which there were many that day.

    Moose,
You have a good case of Sofia/Jelena at USO. Earlier in the season, Jelena had to rally and beat Sofia at Key Biscayne saving numerous match points in the deciding tiebreak. Its impossible to remember tons of matches during the season.

Patrick, did you see Peer d. Safina at Wimbledon?

    mmmm8,
When I made my list, I knew that there were some that I would forget. Unfortunately, Shahar defeating an exhausted Dinara was one of them. Still surprised that both ladies played against each other in doubles later that day.
