Thanksgiving just seems like the most appropriate time to post a Gratitude List to the blogs. So here's a quick ten things I find myself incredibly thankful for as I type this:

1. My health: Nearly everyone I know is on regular meds for this or that, or wakes up with physical issues on an almost daily basis. I turned 50 this year, and I'm holding up okay. That takes some work, and I keep tweaking my fitness program (I started a yoga class recently), but something's working. I seem to be doing better than a lot of people that are 10 years younger than me.

2. 70s R&B music :Leaving work this afternoon, I was playing Rufus and Chaka Khan's "Rufusized" CD. God, I love classic funk. Old school Stevie, EWF, the Isleys, Graham Central Station, and so many other bands from that time. I love almost all kinds of music, but I was so lucky growing up in a time when the best music ever was playing on the radio - primarily on WDAS-FM.

3. The desire to read : I know people who think recreational reading isn't worth the effort. Damn! Nothing beats where a great book can take your mind. And I'm reading another one right now...."Last Night At The Lobster" by Stewart O'Nan. I'll add some commentary to our Books thread when I finish.

4. Getting to PLO@IW and the USO in 2008: Two of the three biggest tournaments in North America, and I got to attend both this season. And got to see some great matches. And got to see some incredible players. And got to spend time, and share laughs with some of the most awesome people on earth...who incidentally are part of....

5. My TAT Family : Don't tell anyone...but I love my family here at Talk About Tennis. This has become SUCH a wonderful community. Speaking as one of the (almost) original members, I have to admit I never imagined the friendships and laughs that this place has provided on a consistent basis. And the best part is that I know so many more are coming.

6. A Great Place To Go To Work : I'm blessed. I hear so many people bitch about their jobs, and when you consider that work is really about 1/3 of your life, it has to be hard to go somewhere that is less than fulfilling. I have a great boss, a nice office, and wonderful co-workers. And I get to travel all over the country (even if I o complain about that some times).

7. A Pretty Cool Church : This is important to me personally, because I started a spritual journey a couple of years ago, and was hoping to find a home in some congregation that came close to matching the belief system that I've developed over the years. Wellsprings, the UU gathering I attend, is liberal, and welcoming, and non-dogmatic. YOu're encouraged to define God in your own way, and the church's role is to give you the means and support to pursue your personal spiritual path. I couldn't be happier.

8. "Lost" is coming back on January 21. : Yippee. 'nuff said.

9. My Life Is Filled With Great People : I've mentioned my fellow TATeurs, but I gotta be honest, I have some wonderful friends off this board that want the very best in life for me, as I want for them. I know if I wake up at 3:00 a.m. this morning, and for some bizarre reason find it absolutely necessary to cry on someone's shoulder, I have more than one option. And I think that's pretty cool.

10. I've Got a Rather Cool Garden : We did "suburbs vs. city" a few months ago. One thing I didn't mention is my garden. I get fresh picked veggies in the summer, and some nice flowers from spring through fall growing in my yard. It's neat to go outside, cut some fresh flowers, and put them on your table and just enjoy them. Or to cook with a fresh tomato you just picked. Or getting your hands dirty on a gorgeous Saturday morning weeding or planting.

So there's some gratitude for Thanksgiving, 2008. Everyone is welcome to create there own list. Writing a regular gratitude list is one way that I keep things in perspective, and in down moments, realize that life is pretty good.

I was blessed with a new litter of Chihuahua puppies on Thanksgiving evening, maybe the nicest litter I have had in a very long time. Looks like three upcoming Champions in my dog future!
