  1. Why Bohemian Rhapsody is actually the best film of the year

    Just to be contrarian, let's take a minute to list the reasons why Bohemian Rhapsody, despite all the blowback, is the pinnacle of filmmaking in 2018:

  2. The 10th Annual Munchie Awards; or 2017 in review

    It's Oscar Sunday and I'm bored at work, so that means it's time for me to undercut the Oscars yet again in the 10th Annual (!) Munchie Awards, where I look back on the year in film. Looking back on it, it was a very good year, with several films coming out that will probably be in consideration for my personal all-time favorites.

  3. The 7th Annual Munchie Awards; or 2014 in Review

    It's Oscar time and that means it's once again time for me to steal their thunder and present the 7th Annual Munchie Awards, celebrating what I thought were the cinematic highlights of the year, since the Academy can just never seem to get it quite right (American Sniper? Come on).

  4. The 5th Annual Doobie Awards; or 2012 in Review, part 2

    As much fun as it is to celebrate the bright spots of cinema, it's also a hoot and a half to tear apart the films that never should have been made. These are the 2012 Doobie Awards (that is...this year's more dubious achievements in cinema). This will be a bit interesting because I saw a lot of mediocrities this year but not a lot of downright terrible stuff. This year's offerings disappointed me in how infrequently they strove towards aggressive awfulness.
