    And on my last Sunday in Berat I went to church.
    I woke up early and strolled the same boulevard that on every night is full of people, teeming with excitement and joy. But in the early hours of the morning nothing is going on. Some of the places are opened but they sell nothing but coffee. It is too early to get a croissant or something to eat. The cleaning ladies are washing the backs of the restaurants, a man sweeps the street, another collects the garbage. I walked for a while.

    There is no discrimination in discriminating. Everybody can do it and everybody is actually very good at it.
    The company I work with is French. We are joined to an Italian outfit and the supervisory company is British. There are some Spaniards in the crew too, but not that many.     But what about this thing that I do? This thing that I and my friends do.
    I start talking with one of the old guys (older than me, that is, as I am already a senior in these matters) and we talk about how we are disappearing. We are some sort of traveling ensemble and go to faraway places and in a very concise way we set up entire companies of 150 people that range from unskilled labor to the very specialized physics needed to get the data.     Bierfest in Albania is a nationwide holiday.
    A small brewery called ELBAR sets up tents and tables and benches around the country and in all towns people sit down to wolf down lousy beer and eat unhealthy food. In Fier, Tirana, Gjirokaster and Durress, the people are getting ready to say goodbye to the warm days of summer and during the days from August 21st to the end of the month, debauchery Albanian style takes a hold of the nation.

    Then there is always another side.
    When you have a town where there are not movie theaters or discos or anything alike, entertainment has to come from inventiveness. I am at a restaurant once and I see a table where a family is enjoying dinner while playing cards. It surprises me that both younger children, not young but not yet teenagers, are playing with their parents as opposed to the expected American, Techno European mode, which would be glued to their smartphones.
