  1. Logbook to despair. Part VII

So why do I say that Venezuela is hell?
Venezuela has recently been designated as the most miserable country on earth. That is not a trivial denomination. We have to remember that this planet has some verifiable hell holes such as Syria, Iraq, North Korea and others. Bur our claim at unsurpassable infamy is based on numbers.
Venezuela is the sole country in the world currently experiencing hyper-inflation. The projection for 2017 stands at 1400%. Our crime rates is about 20,000 murders ...

A while back I received a video of Venezuela in the 1950ís. The video is downright depressing in the sense that we were, at the time, one of the most promising nations in the world. Never mind that half the population has no access to the WWW. Never mind that a large portion of the population is internet illiterate. Never mind that communications in Venezuela are difficult at best. The Vennie GOV decided that the only way to get a passport is to it through a web page where you start a long ...

My plane is the only one landing at that time. I clear customs quickly, grab my baggage and find the driver that will drive me home.
I have always recommended people that are traveling to Venezuela to arrive at night. Caracas does not have an airport within the city: it is serviced at Maiquetia, a coastal town about Ĺ hour from it. So you have to drive from the coast up the mountain, on a winding and twisting road.
The reason I recommend darkness when doing this is that at night, ...
