  1. Logbook to despair. Part VIII

So what kind of economic distortions does this create? Letís start with the primordial one. Gasoline.
Venezuela is a large producer of oil. The state-owned PDVSA (Petroleos de Venezuela) used to be the fourth largest oil company in the world, and one of the best run ones. That is long gone, to the point that two of the four largest refineries in the country are operating under capacity. So why do I say that Venezuela is hell?
Venezuela has recently been designated as the most miserable country on earth. That is not a trivial denomination. We have to remember that this planet has some verifiable hell holes such as Syria, Iraq, North Korea and others. Bur our claim at unsurpassable infamy is based on numbers.

And part of the neglect is the fact that my mom canít ...

So, how do you get a passport in my country?
Venezuela is not the most technologically advanced country. But one thing that the GOV has wanted to do is to make everything web-based. Never mind that half the population has no access to the WWW. Never mind that a large portion of the population is internet illiterate. Never mind that communications in Venezuela are difficult at best. The Vennie GOV decided that the only way to get a passport is to it through a web page where you start a long ...
