  1. In remembrance.

This blog is not all about me. In fact, it is not at all about me, so if I make it about me somewhere, just disregard it, as it is unintentional.

The students at my high school today received news that one of our seniors passed away in his sleep from a known heart defect. Despite the fact that it was known he had this defect, this occurrence was very abrupt. By all accounts, there was no way of knowing when or if something like this would happen.

He was a genuinely nice ...

  2. A Sad Day

Just wanted my TaT family to know that my brothers and I have suffered a loss recently, with the passing of my grandfather this past Friday.

He was almost 90, had dementia, had lived in Florida with little family contact for the last four years, and has been the victim of mini-strokes for a large part of that time. To say that he was really ready is an understatement. I'm not being cold, but merely pragmatic. When someone's "quality" of life is so severely depleted, that ...

  3. A Sunday Tennis Match

Just a quick blog, cause I was so energized by the tennis match I played Sunday.

I hit against the #1 singles player on our varsity team (someone I've played a few times before... I'd say my record against him is 4-1).

The match didn't start out close at all as I quickly got down 0-4 in the first set, before I managed to get to 3-5, serving. I played a blowful game that ended with me netting a third forehand of the game to lose the first set.

    His momentum ...

  4. Beau v. Salmon, the post-winter rematch

The weather was as nice as we could have hoped for, and the venue was Ann Arbor Union High School. Beau and Salmon met for what was an unofficial tiebreaker to the two prior, three-set dramatic encounters that were played last fall. One significant thing about this encounter was that, having played twice before, both of us had strategies as to how best to play our opponents. (Though this is a little disingenuous re: salmon, as he "figured out how to play me" about 5 minutes into our ...

  5. Coming Down from a High: Post-IW Reminiscences (Part 1)

I'll add to this later, but we've all agreed that blogging our experience at the Pacific Life Open is best done in several parts, like savoring a fine wine, so that we can get down all our thoughts with the appropriate amount of drooling emotion delivered to each item. Moose is planning on bulleting his as a list of 50 memories (I think... don't hold me to it...) so I will take my own tack and write about it using a lot of florid prose, stream-of-consciousness style (thank you Virginia Woolf), ...
