  1. Logbook to despair. Part IX

So, what are the nice things about Venezuela? Go ask the people and they will tell you many things are so: the beaches, the coast, our mountains, the beautiful women.
    The weather.
It makes me shift into despair when they claim so because people here do not understand one thing: countries are not their geography. Caracas, for example, sits in a wonderful valley that must have been an impressive sight when the first Spaniards rode along and saw it. It is a series of connected valleys, ...

So what kind of economic distortions does this create? Letís start with the primordial one. Gasoline.
Venezuela is a large producer of oil. The state-owned PDVSA (Petroleos de Venezuela) used to be the fourth largest oil company in the world, and one of the best run ones. The video was about that, about all the construction and structures being raised around the country. Hydro electric dams, thousands of kilometers ...

  5. Logbook to despair. Part V

My mom lives by herself and of course I am staying with her. No need to pay hotels and such and anyway, she would not let me stay anywhere else, nor would I want to. I get to the house that used to be my home so many years ago and the nostalgia is overwhelming: the furniture, the colors, the people in the building, the streets and the neighborhood. It is all familiar with only a veneer of the rundown that has affected the whole country.
And part of the neglect is the fact that my mom canít ...
