FINALLY, someone gets it.
POST OF THE DAY. :woohoo:And she's gonna win the doubles with Dodo Cheney when she's 87, too.
Maybe a mixed doubles title with Roger also, Nelslus? :)

It's not a crime to say Venus is getting older, because she is.
Admit it! ;)
And I'll admit Ana has shown some issues when dealing with major champions like Venus and Lindsay that give me pause...
Venus IS getting older. It's actually a very exciting time. I'm reminded of those days when Agassi, Sampras, and all the other great players reached a similar point in their careers, and they suddenly becomed beloved by everyone who previously hated their guts, because everyone knew they would soon be gone... And, well, that's just what real tennis fans do.
That's how it works, right? When someone gets old (over 27 or so), they become beloved? It's a given, no?
Hell, Justine is getting older (mid 20s, yes? Someone send her some Ensure). And eventually, she'll actually have fans outside of Europe. Trust me, I'm right about this, just give it time. You just have to trust me.

I will never be stunned at anyone they beat or are beaten by. I will, however, be stunned if both Venus and Serena play consistently and injury free week in and week out for a whole year. It's just not going to happen. One of them might, but definitely not both, and not in the same 12 month period.
All of this means Chakvetadze can be in the top 7! :cheesy:
And Petrova will win the 2008 French, too. :cheesy: (Nelslus sure is fickle....)

Elena, you beat Ashley Harkleroad. Get over it.
Pshh. She just made the fourth round of the fifth slam by pulling out a tight match. Let her do the dramatic 'kneeling, hands on the face' thing. BTW, she's looking pretty slamming in that picture.
It was meant as a compliment to Nadia, charlie :p
Oh. I knew that.
Consider those sarcastic angry faces. Or the red frowning face of agreement!

Who have you written in? Szavay has talent and expect her to recover on her favorite surface (clay).
P.S. As you might guess I am all for Wozniacki :)
I'm all for Wozniacki too! :D
How sold are you on Wozniacki? I'm certainly intrigued by her, with the Venus Mentoring Program and all (albeit, V BETTER kick her butt in tomorrow)- but, I just don't know what to think about her yet.
I did think that Agnes had the goods. Not 100% convinced that she's finished. Just 88% or so.
I, too, saw Wozniacki play in person (most of the TATeurs who went to IW did, too...except a lot of them were paying more attention to a doubles match the next court over :p then again, Wozniacki didn't have to do anything special to beat her opponent) Like Shtexas said, there's just something about her that you can't quite put your finger on.
THIS all makes sense, too.
Still, at the risk of stating the obvious.....look at how long it took for Venus, Serena and Monica to recover from their traumas (assuming that, tennis game-wise, Monica ever DID recover.) Certain kinds of traumas can have much longer impacts on your life than you might think. At least for some/many folks.
BUT, the repercussions involved with a trauma can come and go. Big ups and big downs. (OK, I AM officially turning into Dr. Phil here.....:()
I totally agree with your posts regarding Chakvetadze. Outside of Paris and Israel, I think that what happened in Russia affects her still.
So, what you are saying is that Chakvetadze will be long retired when Venus is winning her 50th Wimbledon at the age of 87?
We can only hope! :cheesy::cheesy::cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:

Venus has to focus more on the singles and women's doubles. Dodo can carry Rog to the mixed title.

I'm not sold on her yet. That's all I meant. Nice little run last summer, but it seemed to come out of nowhere and leave just as fast. But, I see the talent. I just wonder about the rest of the package - mental, physical, etc., and those intangibles, like the way Novak...well, never mind...I am not opening up the '05 USO again.
I thought I saw the intangibles at the USO when she beat Nadia,* so there may be some stuff behind her slump and I'm not writing her off yet. And I'm not really a fan, though.
Of course, I also thought I saw the intangibles in Azarenka, but she continues to be hot and cold.
*who, btw, has had a lot of trouble with her right leg since that day and right through this tournament, something that, while doesn't excuse the disaster in Australia, softens the crash a bit

She's been full of these type results and her finals record is abysmal. At the same time, sometimes she is just ruthless, and she's almost always the leader in doubles teams, which should say somethnig about strength of character. She just confuses me.

The aggravating thing is that she'll keep playing with the injury. That's why everyone thought she was such a mental case when she got injured after her epic clay season. She was injured for almost three months, but kept playing. It's very annoying.
That's why I picked the photo. That's what the game is about to me. Not the big leagues, but beating an equally ranked player in a tough three setter on an outside court, and having it mean more to you than winning the tournament may mean to some others.

Wonder how she'd do against Chaks or Szavay. ;)

From what I saw of the match, Roger didn't seem to be playing too well. He was misfiring plenty of forehands. At one point, it even seemed to me he hit air when trying to hit a forehand!! The issue should drop sometime next month. It's a tag team effort with Harkleroad. Holla!

Since I feel bad for bugging shtexas and I may not see another computer for awhile and I'm shocked that I'm still in the suicide pool (of course it had to be the practice pool) and the thread isn't up yet and because I'm unclear what exactly the Miami schedule tomorrow entails, would anyone be horribly offended if I put here that my next day pick is Andy Roddick? :o

Davenport/Hantuchova up 4-0 in their doubles match! Maybe they can still get a whale.

I was hoping/assuming the top half would play their quarters tomorrow: they played their first round matches Friday, had Saturday off, and then played yesterday and today. The bottom half has been playing every day since Saturday . Having one half play four days in a row and the other get a day off every two days would be really rude scheduling. :bat:

I need a poster with Kanepi on one side and Knapp on the other so I can keep them apart. They're the Durmot Mulroney/Dylan McDermott duo of the WTA.
But they are not similar at all...
Poutchek and Poutchkova is a better example...
I realize I'm an hour late to this discussion, but I can barely keep any of these 4 straight:
You say Kanepi, and I say Knapp'ster,
You say Poutchek, and I say Poutchkova,
Kanepi, Knapp'ster,
Poutchek, Poutchkova,
Let's call the doubles off!
Misha WTF is this?
wake up!

Dear Sony Ericsson Open, if you insist that the only way to get to the live scoreboard is through your website, unlike at other tournaments, how about making sure your server doesn't crash four times a day??:mad::mad:
Also, unless Oohsalmon has another terrific ode coming, I'll provide the Szavay ditty of the day:
Oh, Dinara Safina,
you could have been playing with Li Na
Wih Dechy, you'd kick their ass,
With Peer you've had success,
Oh, Dinara, why oh way,
did you pair with Szavay??? :(

I thought it was just the comp I use at work that made it like that.
Bad, bad Sony Ericsson Open site :tisk: :tisk:

There's no reason for it, but few players annoy me as much as Nicolas Almagro. :undecided:

I only watched two games and the tiebreak, but what an ugly mess. Pick it up, Misha
That was some ugly first set if i've seen one.
but nice recovery from that meltdown Misha.

Tomorrow's schedule is up... It's the women from the top half on tomorrow's schedule--Serena/Henin during the day; Venus and Sveta are the first night match.

Believe me, no ode was coming from me that would be sympathetic to Dinara. I can never forgive her for beating Zuzana in the finals of a tournament in the Czech Republic. A WTA tournament.

This is just not worth watching :(
Although it was funny when Youzhny looked like he was going to throw something at the idiot walking around between points
And I hope those were fans, not his team, laughing at Almagro
Youzhny is getting a shoulder rub
Nice job, Gasquet/Tsonga

What is going on with Misha? the other guy can barely put balls in the court and Misha is doing the same thing! It started after he was up 4-0 in first set and played excellent.

Most likely fans. I saw Youhzny and Almagro practicing together at IW, and Almagro seemed pretty chummy with Youhzny's "team", so I don't think it would be them..but who knows

At least you don't have to worry about Pretty Tommy giving him another walkover this tournament, Rabbit... though I doubt a match against Julien would generate much more sweat than a walkover would for Roger
It seems a reporter also made the same mistake you made :)
Q. We're all looking forward to you playing Jo‑Wilfried Tsonga, but that's not going to happen now. How do you feel about playing Julien Benneteau?
ROGER FEDERER: I think I play Acasuso. I think Tsonga was going into the Roddick/Minar section. (laughter.) There goes your question.

If you take out the Chennai title, he's been havin a crappy year altogether. Maybe remnants of the DC loss aggravated by the horrible performance against Tsonga at AO?
