Random question - if a doubles pairing pulls out before the first round when one of them is injured, can the healthy one team with a different player as alternates?
For example, since Petrova/Vesnina pulled out because of Nadia's leg, could Vesnina technically have entered with someone else, instead of having two different players replace them?
(BTW - not bad for random alternates Akgul and Woznicki, beating AMG and VRP)

I feel like the alternates must be predetermined. I have no idea, though.
That being said, Akgul!!! She didn't give me the match up against Henin that I wanted, but a doubles drubbing is pretty good. You go girl! :)

That was a choke job for the record books.
What was so bizarre was that, even after letting the third set get away from her, she still had oodles of chances to close the book on that match... And just couldn't get it done. In a way, it's still a great showing from Sofia. She showed so much promise a few years ago. But that has to be a real heartbreaker.
And give credit where credit is due. Jelena found a way to win. She has a habit of doing that. And since when does Jelena rack up nearly double digits on aces?

But an Azarenka win would do wonders for my MDtM chances... Not so much the Azarenka win, but moreso the Kuznetsova loss. I need three very specific things to happen (they won't) plus one of two things to happen, and this falls into the latter category of my unswerving scenario.
Had Jankovic lost last night, it would be a moot point. That Sofia Arvidsson voodoo doll sure came in handy. :p

Especially for someone who speaks as a second language as well. If you ask me, he's transitioned from the Hobbit language quite well.
In all seriousness, it aggravates the hell out of me. Any kind of 'rah rah,' 'go America,' 'we're number one' attidute just bugs me. It's a big reason why I don't like Roddick or Blake. (Well, it's a contributing factor )

Ditto. I mean, he says something like this a few times in EVERY tournament he calls. You'd think someone would pull him aside at some point and say, "Hey, Ted. You might want to re-think that kind of statement." But maybe we're just being hypersensitive.

Anyone watch Tursunov/Lopez? Dmitry received two warnings in the match and fought with the ump a couple of times. The crowd booed him as he left the court.
Yup. It was pretty surprising that the American crowd didn't back him at all. It almost cost him the match. He got pretty rattled while trying to serve it out.

The second was. The first was a little more confusing. I missed the call but I saw him arguing with the ump. Apparently it had something to do with a bird on the court and the Dmitry trying to scare it off. The ump called him on it (but I don't know if it was because he was trying to scare the bird because he took to long doing it :) ). As Dmitry was walking away from the ump, he hit a ball out of the stadium.
In the last changeover of the match he was arguing with the ump about the second warning and the ump mentioned his first warning with the bird. As Dmitry got up to play he yelled, "What are you, ****in' Greenpeace?"

Actually, he's okay most of the time. The only time I find him completely unbearable is when he's working with Tracy Austin. He really does know quite a bit about the players, though he's prone to mischaracterizing things every now and then, but they all do that. He's been doing this for a long, long time. So I guess that's his main qual.
I expect Justin to pass him on my **** list in the very near future. Like before the Blake match is over.

It looks like Ana is a little nervous playing a legend. She should be fine once she loosens up.

Lindsay's power is making Ana's racquet look slow

So, if you're Ivanovic, what do you do at this point on your serve? Her deeper first serves land right in Lindsay's strike zone. Do you shorten them up? Probably not. Do you kick them even more? She's going to need to change them up somehow. She's had decent luck going down the T, but you can't do that too much or else it gets predictable, though going there more could get Lindsay leaning the wrong way and open up the out wide serve more.
Very interesting match up so far.

Well she's not so hot on serve today (as it's been all year), but Lindsay is thoroughly outplaying this girl on the groundgame.
As it should be. ;)
One more set Lindsay. Bring it home.
First set to Davenport.
This was utterly predictable for anyone who saw my selection of Ivanovic last Monday for my Miami team.
Pretty amazing to see how Lindsay's shots make Ana look like a lightweight.

I would love to see the Linds/Ana match... I love em both but I'm rooting for Linds (sorry Ana) one for the old girl would be great.
Ai is killing me slowly, but I expected to much @ 5-2, I guess I learnt nothing from the first set.

WTH is going on? Linds up 40/0 on serve for a 4/0 lead, I leave the room back and it's Ad Ana.
Ai up 3/0 in the tiebreaker I get back its 3/0 then 5/3 Ai again 5/5
I give up.

Berdych easily takes out Juan Carlos. He looks to be playing well.
Gasquet/Tsonga take out Roddick/Tuna in 3rd set super breaker. :)
