JJ, with all due respect, you have GOT to stop copying my posts before I even get them posted.

You think he can beat top 10 or even top 5 players but how come you don't think he will ever be top 10 himself? If he stays healthy of course.
He's the Francesca Schiavone of the ATP, Vlad. Schiavone has wins over almost every top player...yet never was, and never will be a Top 10 herself. It's like that for some players. They get it up for the big matches.
First point. And the Serbs are LOUD... :lipsrsealed:
It is pretty sad when Kolya's unforced errors are being applauded louder than his winners..

It was mentioned on the bbc but so far that's the only place it's been mentioned.
I'm sure that Justin does not know how to spell bbc.
6-2 first set Kolya. He is doing everything a little better so far. His serving has imporved a lot since the low of last fall when he couldn't even put his second serves in.

The hell is with them? Honestly.
There's a chance I may find myself in Serbia in a couple months, and I am thinking of avoiding it because of just the unilaterally terrible stuff I've gathered about them through their fandom (and the attacking the embassy stuff isn't a draw, either).

The reason why Davydenko is frequently accused of being ranked higher than he should be is the fact that they so rarely show matches like this. I can't remember the last time I saw him get to play someone ranked lower than him on TV.
He is so impressive. Go Nikolay!

Justin just said: "Serena once again proves that if she is healthy and fit, then she is the best player in the world".
Now, here is my question: Don't you need to play winning tennis during all year to be called that? Or is playing two amazing matches in a year enough to be called the best? She certainly is capable of playing great matches against great players and beat them, no one questions that, but why is he jumping to such conclusions?

I agree. I was especially impressed with his game in Shanghai last year against Gonzales. When the opponent plays to his liking and gets intimidated by his early ball striking, he can wrap up the match really fast.
Kolya is playing well. Too easy today, not a great effort from Janko.

Justin said Davydenko isn't able to break the top tier of players including Federer, Nadal, and Roddick. Roddick? He's been consistently ranked higher than him for the past three years. I understand that he's never beaten him, but he's still been performing better for a while now.

Not sure I understand what you mean there.. something to do with her injury at Wimbledon?
I am sure he wants it to be and badly too, but the point is, the best player in the world should show the best results of all players during 12 months (or close ) period. Maria won Australian Open in dominant fashion, is she the best player? Ana just won Indian Wells... is she the best player too?
I think being called the best player at the moment takes a little more effort than just 1 or 2 great played tournaments. I will be first one to say Serena is the best player in the world at the end of the year if she shows that in her results on consistent basis.

I think we can all agree on that. Which is why Justine, at the moment, is still the best player in the world. But if Serena's fans want to make a case otherwise, they might get their chance over the next 11 months. Time will tell.

I think it's similar to how Marat Safin could be top five if he played close to his talent level all the time. If Serena consistently played the way she does when she's at her best, she'd probably be top three, at least.
Everyone has their moments, though. I think there are at least thirty players on both tours who "could be" top ten if they consistenly played their best.

He hasn't been cleared YET, technically. But I'm still glad I missed the stellar commentary.
It'll be interesting to see if Federer comes out in not such great form for the semi (provided he beats Roddick), whether Kolya can break through the mental barrier. The US Open semi suggests the mental brick is still too heavy.
I don't think he has a chance against Roddick, but then I don't think Andy has a chance either, since he hasn't been playing great and he would really need to for Federer.

Kolya will have a chance even against Roddick. The times they played each other, Davydenko was never at his best. 4 out of 5 matches, he wasn't even top 10. At last time they played, Kolya was struggling badly against anyone

I think his problem with Roddick might be mostly technical - returning his serve, not mostly psychological as it is against Fed

Maybe it's that Andy's game just makes Roger look really good.
I think it's just that Roger knows that letting Roddick into matches is deadly when he can serve the way he serves so he tries to be as oppressive as possible.

I can answer that one.
Back in 2003 Roddick beat Fed in the the Rogers Masters final. At the end of the year Roddick was #1 by the slimest of margins. Turns out that If Fed had won that match and all the other matches for both players remained tha same, Fed could have been # 1 in 2003. Fed has said in the past that he always remembers this every time he plays Roddick.

I don't know that the match is "out of his hands".
But Andy didn't win the first set simply because Roger was playing "passively". Andy was playing some pretty good tennis.
The only reason Roger got the second set was because Roddick took his foot off the gas. Andy missed an easy over head a few games back and ever since then, his service games have turned to crap.

Come on, this is utterly unfair. The match is being played from both sides. Although I'm not watching the match, Roger must have made some nice shots to intimidate and press Andy. At the very least, one must credit Federer for keeping up his level when Andy's fell a little bit

True.
We were talking a few weeks ago how these three ladies seems to not want the two spot. As soon as either of the three got a chance to win their way into it, or build on it, they went out early. While I am not a Maria fan, I am glad that someone might get near the top of the rankings that threatens to be a #1, rather than run from it.

I'm still sceptical Sharapova will play much leading up to RG. Not to mention, she's got a lot of RG points to defend herself. I think we'll probably see Maria make her move later this year, around the indoor season. She definitely belongs in the Top-3, I've just been looking at the rankings and trying to decide when she's going to make it back there. If her shoulder is acting up again, I think she'll pace her schedule.

This is true. Andy only had the one break point this match. This match was really one of only 4 or 5 matches these two have played where the entire thing was legitimately competitive and I'm not surprised Andy finally got one. Andy just finally had the belief today and there were really just a few sloppy points that swung the balance in all 3 sets. Unfortunately, they came in clumps, but that's tennis.

There's delayed streaming of the match on TVU. I'm watching it and it just seems Roger is less likely to pull the trigger on winners. Roddick loops it back to the middle in some rallies, and Federer just pushes it back. It seems Roger now wants to win more by touch than than by power, and that is not at all what Roger was two seasons back. Also of course tons of errors.
None of this is meant to take away from Andy's accomplishments but it appears that Federer is severely lacking in confidence at this stage.

Vera has no points to defend between, I think, late April and September. She should be in top ten soon if she doesn't get injured again.

I think half the time she calls for the trainer because she is bored, and want to chat to someone for a minute. Same thing with all her approaches to the chair.
Either that or she's a hypocondriac.

Honestly, Foxster - I think she's got a touch of ADHD. Her focus goes in and out. She gets started on something that bothers her, and obsesses over it. And I think her calling for the trainer is one of her tools for dealing with it.

There is a big gap between #11 and #12. Assuming she doesn't escape today, Vera will be #14 next Monday, but still 676 points behind #10.

Allez!
No one beats Andy Roddick thirteen times in a row. (sorry, stealing from your guy, GVGirl)
Sorry, I meant Garulitas, not Vilas, and it was only 12 times. Plus, Andy said the same thing in his presser, so it's not as witty as I thought. :(

But, congrats. Miami has been a hugely successful event for your faves.
So did Nalbandian. But that was last year. Old news. ;)

Other than the outburst against Justine in her post-USO semi interview in '06, Jelena has been a model class act post-match.

Kid: "Jelena can I have your racquet?"
JJ: "I need that racquet to beat Serena."
Kid: "Well can I have it after the final?"
JJ: "OK"
Kid: "Remember my face, I want to make sure it comes to me."
Kid: "Jelena, can I have your shoe?"
He asked for like five more things. Kudos to her for not smacking him.

She was very lovely with autographs for kids just now. Great attitude... nice to see that from a top player who isn't just concerned with winning.

Following her match against Ahsha at IW, she did the same thing. She stayed to sign every single autograph, and allow everyone that wanted one to get her picture. She's got to make tournament directors ecstatic with that kind of attitude. Shame more players don't hae it.

I've said several times before, I became a fan watching her after she beat Vaidisova on one of the outside courts at the USO in 2006. She stayed on the court and signed every single autograph. Glad I had the DirecTV interactive coverage or might have missed that moment.

Nikolay Davydenko is a great player when he's at his best. I think he'll be at his best vs. Andy. Davydenko has already faced two big servers in Gulbis and Ancic this week. And the fact that he dusted Tipsarevic should have him feeling great physically and mentally. And hopefully his head is clear of Sopotgate.
Regardless of what happens this week, I think that if Rafa doesn't win the FO this year, that it will be because of Nikolay Davydenko.

I'm enough of a Vee fan to know it's an even year.
And, despite their age gap, I'm thinking Vee has a longer window of opportunity to win slams than Jelena.
All this is moot though. We all know the RG title is going to the Czech #10. :)

Zuzu is the third match on and play started two hours ago. The first match is still going (1-0 in the third), so it will probably be a couple hours before Zuzu starts smacking Mildewy Mathilde around :).
So UK time, approximately 3:30-4 or so, I'd guess.

Ah Okay. Sorry. I missed my first match in years when Justine and Serena played this week. I've always scheduled early classes and usually get home in time, but Tuesday kept me out all day. I was severly PO-ed and thinking to myself I don't know how you all work during tennis tournaments.

It's called multi-tasking.
I pretty much stick to tennis boards and scoreboards at work though. Between checking on posts and scores, you'd be surprised how much can be accomplished on projects up in the other windows.
