Wahoo Nikolay!!!

Now he just has to destroy his QF opponent (who is it?) and then it's smooth sailing to the final. He has a good record against Federer and Roddick, right?

I think she's still capable of winning anything she enters, if she stays healthy, and maintains her fitness. And stays hungry like she was today.

She's definitely hungry. Can you guys believe how much weight she's lost? She keeps getting smaller.

I think she was hungry to see a W next to a Serena and Justine match too.

Man I hope Sveta wins if she beats Serena. At this point I would rather have her lose in the semis than the final.

Serena was raging today, though. She might be unstoppable. Then again, she could also turn her brain off after a great win (has she been hanging out with Lindsay?), so who knows?

You sure you not confusing her for Sveta? I can't recall Serena ever putting a great performance and then reverting but I could be wrong. Anyway Serena is my first choice now that Vee is gone, if not then Elena D, Vera and or Sveta.

To be honest, Charlie, I would like to believe that the win today only served to remind the Fierce Stomping Diva that the WTA remains hers for the taking, if she cares to do so. I think she's still capable of winning anything she enters, if she stays healthy, and maintains her fitness. And stays hungry like she was today.

And I would like to believe it's not true (it wasn't last year despite her Miami title)...

I wish people would kinda like be a little bit more honest we don't have to like a player to be honest. Granted not the whole year but Serena did get injured again after Miami (not right after) but just as she was picking up again Wimbledon happened so there were some set backs.

I think maybe people are just scared that if she does remain healthy it could mess up the little picture at the top. Because like her or not when she's healthy and everything is clicking she's a force to reckon with.

Serena had some of the toughest early round opponents out of anyone. Azarenka and Vaidisova were both tough draws and were playing extremely well. Serena beat both of them 3 and 4. Then against Jankovic she seemed timid. It was very odd to me. I do think it was the exception to the rule, though. She normally only gets better or injured as the tournament goes on.

Serena beat

Gajdosova Jarmila ranked 145 6-3 6-3
Yuan, Meng ranked 121 6-3, 61
Azarenka ranked 25 6-3, 6-4
Nicole Vaidisova ranked 12 6-3 6-4

All games she was suppose to win on paper.

She then lost to Jelena, in a match yeah she was suppose to win but it's not like Jelena is not a player that one should be ashamed of losing to at at a slam. She was ranked #4 at the time and really should have won based on ranking been the favourite.

Justine had not dropped a set either and Maria left her looking like an imposter. Still other than being bagelled Justine should not totally be ashamed of losing to Maria either because of who she lost to.

Jelena is also, apparently, among the troika of players that can handle Serena. You've got Vee, Justine and Jelena. I don't think anyone current that has played her more than 5 times has a better winning percentage against her than these three - and Jelena has a better record against her than Justine now, I beleive.

Hot from what Salmon? They were playing well but they were winnable (sp) matches considering their opponent, but they weren't players that should have pushed her in the first place so I would not use them as a measuring stick. If she had beaten say Justine, or maybe Maria playing like she did today and then played the way she played against JJ then I would say she reverted after a great performance. I agree no one saw the JJ meltdown but it's not a horrible lost in my opinion considering that JJ can play effective tennis as we all know.

Well obviously she was supposed to get to the quarters on paper, she was one of the top eight seeds. That doesn't mean that she can't do it impressively (as she did), or unimpressively (as Jankovic did). Serena came in hot, Jankovic came in cold (playing poorly against Paszek and Dellacqua, 3 sets vs Razzano), and although I more than anyone am an advocate of Jelena being underappreciated, it's fair to say that no one gave her much of a chance vs. Serena for good reasons. Case in point, that day in the SP, 14 people picked Serena, and none Jelena.

Was this big win when Sharapova was struggling Salmon? Because everyone was beating her them IIRC. Still no matter how much of a run Vika was having no-one expected her to beat Serena, Justine, Maria or anyone else in a slam. The same can't be said of JJ whether she's won slams or not. Plus Nicky V was Serena's opponent after Vika so...

Still JJ win against her although a surprise should not have been a major surprise considering that JJ has the potential to win a match like this and did. And again Serena was not pushed to the brink by either like she was say against Flavia the other night, came back win it and then lost the next match. That's my point.

They have tough pick for singles... Gasquet is a mess now, Tsonga cooled off from AO and played kinda bad match with Julien.... Mathieu is really not that reliable (and doesn't like very fast courts)... and not sure about Llodra who likes fast conditions but he is too risky... now Julien is playing well...

I think he should get them all and make them play each other in practice sets and whoever wins most should play.

Even in doubles... what if Gasquet/Tsonga go on to win this whole thing now beating Bryans again in final? That would be something..

Vera won me back over in the match against Aravane we saw at IW. Rezai was smacking a smoking forehand, and Vera would be patient, making some great return shots and letting Aravane consistently overhit. Then Vera would switch to offense likethat, and scorch a winner down the line. I liked what I saw of Vera at the USO match against Serena last year...but I loved what she was doing in the Rezai match.

I gave her several years. never warmed up to her when she was a crybaby. Try closing it and then going back to the SE site and reopening it. It crashes a lot.

I mean I can't be too disappointed with Blake this year because he's made the QF of every event he's played in but still can't help but feel he's left more than a few points out there. I just hope he comes back strong and takes care of the french fry during the DC Tie.

That may be true.

Still, many tend to forget that Nadal made the finals in Miami (slow) and was up two sets in the finals the second or third time he played the event. That he won Montreal (fast) and Madrid (medium fast) and Indian Wells (medium slow) and Dubai (very fast) against some rather good hardcourt competition.

Just saying.

She was when the match started. She lost just one point in the first two service games. Then she failed to break when she should have and lost her concentration.

Nothing, it's just something about her. And the Moscow incident didn't help. You can see Dinara is subdued today, which is probably not helping her. I didn't see their other match earlier this year, but if Dinara is trying to patch things up, that's awfully nice of her.

If she could also stop letting Vera move her around, that'd be grand.

Sorry, this is a humdinger even by those standards. It's clearly all nerves. Anytime one of their backs are against the wall, out come the guns. But right now they're neck and neck so it's just a funeral walk. Do we really think Vera's going to hold on to this 3-1 lead?

I don't know where her whip is attached but Dinara's is managing to beat her with it. I think she is 3/3 with challenges, including this woman's overrules. The mustached gray-haired line judge is my fave in this match
