TAT has been blessed with many great tennis players jumping on board for TAT Pro Talk in the short time since its launch.

We are now proud to bring you a TAT Pro Talk with rising Russian star EVGENY KOROLEV

TAT would like to thank Evgeny for participating and his site administrator, Maria, for arranging the Q&A.

Please ask the questions to Evgeny below . THIS THREAD WILL CLOSE ON FRIDAY, FEB. 23. We will then select 10 questions to go to Evgeny.

The short of it:
Evgeny Korolev has just turned 19 on Feb. 14, 2007. He turned pro in 2005 and has been climbing up the rankings, cracking the top 100 last year. He is currently ranked in the 80s. . He also holds 6 Futures/Challengers titles.

Korolev’s biggest win to date was last year in Marseille against then 6th ranked Nikolay Davydenko

This year, Evgeny has already scored a win over Robby Ginepri in Sydney, where he lost to Blake, and has taken a set off eventual finalist Fernando Gonzalez in a first round loss at AO. He was on the Russian Davis Cup squad against Chile, but injured his wrist and was unable to play. After getting treatment, Evgeny got through qualifying in Memphis, and will face Ginepri again in the first round.

Evgeny is coached by his father.

The long story:
Evgeny was introduced to tennis by his father, a former professional hockey player at age four. As a child he suffered with Osgood-Schlatter disease (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001258.htm), which results in painful swelling around the knees, but continued training. By age 10, Evgeny found a sponsorship, which took him to train in Germany, where his family now lives.

Evgeny never played the junior circuit, and started directly in Futures and Challengers. He attended school in Germany, and speaks Russian, German, English , and Spanish. He is also a cousin of Anna Kournikova.

Please visit Evgeny’s site : WWW.EVGENYKOROLEV.NET to learn more about him.

Evgeny,

what are your goals for this coming year?

What inspired you to play tennis?

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Evgeny,
How much pressure do you feel being the cousin of Anna Kournikova who is not only one of the most famous athletes, but one of the biggest celebrities in the world?

Did you ever have a moment or period of time where you had thought about just dropping tennis, and going to school, having a "normal" life? What keeps you going in the sport?

Happy (Belated) Birthday, Evgeny!

Do you have good friends on the tour? If so, who?

What's the best training tip you've ever received?

Best of luck in your upcoming tournaments!

Are you still considering a move to Florida? Do you think the Saddlebrook area would be a better base for you?

Thanks and much good luck in the future - I hope Mr. Tarpischev finds a spot for you on the DC team.

Just a reminder, you only have until tomorrow night to ask questions for Evgeny. I will lock the thread right before the server move.

you've moved up from playing mostly Challenger events to a regular ATP schedule. Obviously, the level of play becomes more talented, but what other challenges are there when you "arrive" on the ATP Tour?

How do the rest of the Russian men feel about Marat?

Who in Challengers do we not know much about yet, but you've seen play and expect to be a force in the future in the ATP (beside yourself, of course!)

What happened to your wrist and how did it hold up in Memphis?

Why did you chose to stay away from the junior circuit? Do you think it helped or hurt you, both as a player and socially in terms of being a newcomer on tour at an older age?

What have you gained from your Davis Cup experience?

Last chance, people.

If you could make one change to improve the sport of tennis, what would it be??

You played a round robin tournament this year. Adelaide, I believe. What do you think of that format? Do you prefer the traditional "knock-out" type of event.

One more - Would you be content to crack the top 50 this year in ranking, or is your aim a little higher?

Thank you.
