Congratulations and Welcome to Day 12 (Friday) of the French Open Suicide Pool. 16 contestants remain with two only having one pick left. For the rest, it is a matter of which way each decides to go.

Day 12 features only 2 semifinal matches.

Remember, once you have selected a player, you cannot use them again. Be sure to consult the Picks and Results thread to make sure your choice is not one you used before (a duplicate choice results in your elimination).

And remember, for those left for the final, you will be choosing the winner of the final and there is a tiebreak procedure. All contestants who beat the draw will get a TAT medal, but for the prize package we can have only one winner.

Your choices are due by the start of play on Friday, June 8, 1:00 p.m. Paris Time (7:00 a.m. USA Eastern Time, 4:00 a.m. US West Coast time).

Good luck, everyone!

Roger Federer (SUI)[1] vs. Nikolay Davydenko (RUS)[4]
Novak Djokovic (SRB)[6] vs. Rafael Nadal (ESP)[2]

Just as a clarification, the tiebreaker involves pm'ing your choices so that others cannot see what you chose (other than the player, obviously) until all picks are in.

Since I may still be in the contest, you will be pm'ing Moose your tiebreak numbers instead of me. Details to follow.

Like I said, I've changed my mind three times...so I may change it again before tomorrow. I think he's the safer bet for the semis should, heaven forbid, there be an upset...and that set against Robredo scared me a bit. I actually managed to catch Nadal's last match and he looked good to go. So far now...

I choose Roger Federer.

(and we'll see if I change my mind a 4th time.)

As a side note...what happens if both Rafa and Federer lose? Do we still do a finals tiebreaker amongst all 16 of us? It could include a new tiebreaker category - just picking the winner!

Looks like I started a Federer run...3 in 1 minute!

They will officially announce it later, but it will probably be number of total games in final, followed by points by winner I think?

Yes. And it looks like there may be a third part to the tiebreaker since so many are left. Although, I'm betting it can be decided by the first two parts.

You CANNOT be serious! (about Federer and Nadal both losing).

Yes. We have to have a winner for the prize package, so there will be a tiebreak in that instance too.

It's not for this round...they'll need it for the final if Rafa or Federer win because we'll have multiple winners. In the unlikely event they both lose...I'd guess all 16 of us would get to enter the tiebreaker! Since no one would be picking, there's no reason not to add the actual winner (in this case Davydenko or Djokovic) as a tiebreaker question...but I think we're in super-hypothetical territory now.

Anything can happen...Federer did have some losses to much lower ranked opponents a month back...but I would be VERY surprised if they both don't make it.

By "about" don't you mean exactly ;)

Funny how it completely overshadows Henin making 5 straight Slam finals (of slams she's entered.)

My pick is Roger Federer, for now.

I think Nadal has the safer semi.

I think Nadal is the favorite to win it all, but I have to go with my heart here and save Federer for that last match, being a die-hard fan of his :)

RAFAEL NADAL for me please.

I gotta say, I'm with Robert on this one... I'd love to try to get my hands on one of those prize packages, but... I'll be a happier man if I pick Federer to win it all, even if I think Nadal might pull it out.

Rafael Nadal for the semi-final. :cheesy:

I will be rooting for Roger to win, yet picking Nadal (in the finals, that is, I am not changing my Federer pick for Today). I like setting up win-win situations.

It was a tough wardrobe decision, but I'll be wearing my "Vamos Rafa" t shirt tomorrow...

I am going with the "setting up a win-win" philosophy. If Roger can win the French I won't give a damn about the suicide pool and all its associated angst. Well, I won't care as much.

Roger Federer please.

I can't believe I got far enough to pick The Raj! *pats self on back*

Going with heart more than head. I really want Raja to win this thing, so I'm putting my money where my mouth is (And I can't believe I just used two cliches in two sentences.)

So far 7 apiece for tomorrow with 2 left to pick.

For the finals we have 7 people who will have Nadal, and 5 who will have Fed...can't get a lot closer than that.

Merlyn

I'll take Federer too. I think Fed has the easier match-up with Davydenko than Nadal has with Djoko, so just in case Nadal doesn't get through at least you can get to the final. But hopefully everything will work out, and Nadal wins easy and Fed goes 5 and then Nadal can clean up in the final. But good luck everyone. This has been really fun.
