Congratulations and welcome to Day 9 of the Womens Roland Garros French Open Suicide pool. Day 9 features all four womens quarter final matches...and puts you in a postion where you start to reveal your hand as to who you think the ultimate winner of the title will be.

PLEASE remember to check the Updated Picks and Results thread, so that you do not duplicate a pick in choosing your winner today. It would be a shame if you were to be eliminated as a result of a duplicate pick.

Your day 9 selection is due by the start of play on Tuesday June 5 - 12:00 Noon, Paris time (6 hours earlier for East Coast, USA, 9 hours earlier for West Coast.

Good Luck!

Womens QuarterFinals:

Justine Henin BEL (1) vs. Serena Williams USA (8)
Jelena Jankovic SRB (4) vs. Nicole Vaidisova CZE (6)
Ana Ivanovic SRB (7) vs. Svetlana Kuznetsova RUS (3)
Anna Chakvetadze RUS (9) vs. Maria Sharapova RUS (2)

I think it is going to take me every available second to closing the thread time tomorrow to make a decision. Anna-Maria...Maria-Anna... I don't have a clue what to do with this one.

It's possible to pick Anna-Maria match and still get an All-Serb final. I think Moose is doing just that...

I wonder if anyone is going to pick Vaidisova. It's a reasonable choice albeit unavailable to me...

I'm out on the men's side now, and I want to try to make it a little farther here, so it's Jelena Jankovic for me.

this is when it gets hard. sheesh. Jelena Jankovic, but I won't be mad at Vaidisova for proving me wrong, or even Jelena if it turns out i picked her too soon.

I'm really not happy about having to make this pick. I messed up last round when I chose Ana Ivanovic. I should have saved her because, quite frankly, I'm not sure who will win in her match against Kuznetsova! I should have jumped on that Vaidisova bandwagon and been rolling free. I could have then chosen the winner of the Ivanovic/Kuznetsova match in the semis and chosen the winner in the top half as the winner in the finals. Now my whole "beat the draw strategy" depends on Kuznetsova winning tomorrow, or I'll have no way of beating the draw! Okay - rant over. With that, I'm forced to choose Jelena Jankovic as my pick.

The only player I have used so far is Nicole
I think the winner will come from the top half.
So I don't want to pick from there yet
I think I have to take the winner of the all Russian QF, because I think Ana goes to the final (or Sveta).
I think jankovic is the other finalist.

So it is either Anna or maria
or Serena who I do believe will take down Justine and lose to JJ.

I think Anna C wins tomorrow, but I will take

SERENA!!!

Serena is my pick

UGH! I thought having seven of the remaining eight to choose from would make picking easier. As much as I would like to pick the Henin-Williams match, I have to choose from the bottom of the draw in case Vaidisova wins. Therefore it is time for Chakvetadze to make her true break-through!

Chakvetadze is the choice (plus I love her name!)

Wow! What a crazy day. So far, I counted:

2 for Serena
3 for Kuznetsova
4 for Chakvetadze
19 for Sharapova
22 for Jankovic

1) I cannot believe how many people think Maria will pull it off. I think Chakvetadze will beat her (but I'm not willing to bet on it).

2) I really enjoyed my pick until I saw how many people agreed with me (a sure sign of death in these things)

For what it's worth, Vaidisova is 4-2 against Jankovic, while Sharapova is 3-0 against Chakvetadze. Though in both cases, all the matches were close. To complicate things, Maria's shoulder and Vaidisova's wrist make things pretty iffy for them. So even though the numbers dictate that I take Maria, I think Jankovic is the safer choice in this circumstance.

and still, to this point in the game, not one player has used Justine. By the quarters last year, at least a couple of players had used her. This year, EVERYONE's holding her.

Don't worry... Someone (:lipsrsealed: ) will probably post that Jankovic was a risky pick if Vaidisova finds herself up 6-4, 4-1.... Some just have that mysterious need...

I'm just of the opinion that every suicide pool pick is risky... Doesn't matter when, the round, or the surface.... And there's usually someone who comes along at the 11th hour after the match is all but over to suggest he/she knew better.
