Congratulations and Welcome to Day 8 (Monday) of the French Open Men’s Suicide Pool.

Day 8 features 4 fourth round matches from the BOTTOM half of the Men’s draw.

Remember, once you have selected a player, you cannot use them again. Be sure to consult the Picks and Results thread to make sure your choice is not one you used before (a duplicate choice results in your elimination).

Your choices are due by the start of play on Monday, June 4, 12:00 p.m. Paris Time (6:00 a.m. USA Eastern Time, 3:00 a.m. US West Coast time).

Good luck, everyone!

Novak Djokovic (SRB)[6] vs. Fernando Verdasco (ESP)
Marcos Baghdatis (CYP)[16] vs. Igor Andreev (RUS)
Jonas Bjorkman (SWE) vs. Carlos Moya (ESP)[23]
Lleyton Hewitt (AUS)[14] vs. Rafael Nadal (ESP)[2]

I have to pick between Moya and Andreev (and theoretically Bjorkman too), so I take

Moya

Once Davydenko won, I knew exactly what I was gonna do through the quarters. Counting eggs before they hatch, I can now start staying up nights over Federer/Nadal.

Really, really tough to decide today. I'll go with Marcos Baghdatis (but his first serve % so far scares the hell out of me).

I'm now really regretting getting overly cautious on Day 7 and changing my pick from Davydenko to Canas. So seeing that I think I've now managed to ruin my shots at beating the draw, I'll just throw caution to the wind and go with Moya.

Long post, made short: my pick is Moya.

He may have lost his Hoover, but he is still a major djock, so I pick:

NOVAK DJOKOVIC!

Finally! All the hard decisions are over with. Even though Messrs. Baghdatis, Canas, Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal might screw things up for me this week, at least I won't need to expend any more brainpower trying to sort this out (well, I might change my mind at the end). Anyway, I'll be starting tomorrow with:

Marcos Baghdatis

Thanks.

The Time is Now. Even if I did lose Day 1 in the women's pool because of his girlfriend.

Carlos Moya, please.

Go Carlitos!

i never expected moya to get this far, i SHOULD have saved him for his match i think is the best on paper.

oh well, considering all my options i pick the highly erratic Baghdatis.

this pick scares the bejesus out of me. can anyone say cajones with me? ;)

Gotta save Nadal and Djokovic. Since I already took Moya and Baghdatis (never readjusted after Roddick lost... in retrospect I would've liked to saved Moya.) I only really have two choices - Bjorkman and Andreev. Bjorkman rarely does this well on clay, and is against a former champ, so I guess I'll take:

Igor Andreev

(not because I'm confident he will win, but because he's my best chance at beating the draw somehow.)

Moya.

Ooof. I'm, frankly, rather liking Bjorkmans chances against Moya here on clay... And I'm very much unsure about Baghdatis vs Andreev.

I love Baggy, but what about Mr. 347 winners (341 on the forehand), 12 UFE, Andreev? It's hard to pick there...

But, caution dictates I should take Moya over Bjorkman... Except that Bjorkman has arguably been much more tested than Moya. Moya has had a string of easy opponents, and I really don't like his seemingly poor habits in previous matches...

On the other hand, he's been playing well lately... If we exclude that first round near disaster over Seppi. I'm going to say Moya tentatively, then go and agonise for a while longer.

I'm going with Carlos Moya, provisionally. He's what I penciled in on my "And here is how the French open will play out" draw sheets I printed and scribbled all over...

Here's some very early pick totals:

Andreev 3
Baggy 8
Bjorkman 1
Djokovic 1
Moya 11

That's only 24 total picks by my count, and we've got 37 total folks left in the pool... That means we've got 2/3 of our picks in, and the current minimum number we could lose is Baggy over Andreev and Moya over Bjorkman, dropping 4 players.

The maximum is the number of picks minus the minimum, so 20. ;)

Good luck everyone, especially to Carlos Moya.

I'll take Moya. Beat Bjorkman their last two meetings including on clay. They were a while ago, but in his interview he sounded happy to be facing Bjorkman and didn't seem all that worried about the prospect.

Just opening this thread to let you know we received an e-mail pick yesterday morning (1:33 am!) from morct (she went camping). Her pick is Moya.
