Of our 42, so far we have lost 2 today - one due to Volandri and one due to Monaco.

We are awaiting the Davydenko/Nalbandian result. Should Davydenko hold on, then we will lose three who chose Nalbandian.

And it's official, the pool has lost the bare minimum possible today.
Just 5 people... I expect tomorrow to be bloodier.. Probably by a lot, and it may well include me.

I won't be especially surprised if I lose...picking against Baghdatis you never now.

Started the day with 37.

We just lost 11 as Andreev defeated Baghdatis.

26 remain.

Didn't we also have one Bjorkman picker as well eliminated?

Looks like at least 8 people can't beat the draw - those who have picked both Canas and Davydenko. If Davydenko loses though, they might luck out by being "forced" to pick Federer while a bunch of us go down.

You are correct! Thanks pt!

25 left.

Set point for ... ROBREDO? Looks like fed loses his first set, and we're all square!!!

The two people who have not picked Robredo yet all of a sudden are looking really good...if Davydenko and Robredo win they are the only two who can beat the draw! Although janetb is going to have to take Andreev over Djokovic (or Nadal in semis) to beat draw...

Federer back in control...

Now, an interesting note...just doing my anaylsis, I was thinking it's quite amazing...everyone's taken Carlos Moya. Then I notice, hey there's someone who didn't...

ME!

I was sure I had taken him, but I never had! The funny thing was I would've picked him last round if I knew he was available. Now, it may work out - should he somehow upset Nadal, I would be the ONLY person who could still beat the draw...all of a sudden I may be excited about Nadal getting upset...

5 Federer pickers survive another round! Unfortunately all 5 have no one left on the top half of the draw and can at best make it through the semis...

except for Kabouter, who only can pick Nadal from bottom half of draw and will not be able to make a pick for the semis. Oh well...not a bad way to go - probably won't lose a match!

Down to 22 with 3 eliminated with Canas's loss...

The 17 of us who had Davydenko still remain alive to beat the draw.

All 17 of us have Federer
All 17 of us have Nadal
15 have Djokovic - the other two need to pick Andreev still at some point
14 have Andreev (although I expect only 2 to use him)
1 of us (ME!) has Moya

So...GO MOYA GO!

I've been wondering about players possibly whipping out an Andreev pick over Djokovic. A lot of people probably watched him beat Roddick more than once (courtesy of American TV) and may be impressed.

I'm not planning on it, as I don't want to switch horses mid race, but I would certainly understand an Andreev pick.

big props to the multitude of you who are still in. By this point last year, there were only two.

Ha, I wish I could take credit for allowing for the possibility of a Robredo over Federer upset, but in reality I just wasn't sure if Tommy would make it through Volandri.

Sounds like fun, there.... So the 15 of us with Djoko, Fed, and Nadal left, assuming Djoko and Nadal win (doesn't seem too hard to believe ;)) their quarters, should all make it to the final, barring another upset...

And we'll know everyones final pick the day they pick their semifinal. Oof!

ptmcmahon
06-05-2007, 01:14 PM
Then it may come down to who picks the right finals winner...Federer or Nadal...of course an upset could throw a wrench in everyone's plans. If so, hope the person you saved gets upset so at least you get your semi/quarter pick right!

While Federer's streak of 35 consecutive grand slam sets is reasonably impressive, I'm just as impressed by my own streak of my picks having won their last 26 consecutive sets. The only set any of my picks has lost was my first pick's first set (Ferrero v Delic), and I missed a set when Hajek retired against Baghdatis.

Anyone else have enough free time to see if they have a similar streak?

ptmcmahon

I'm only at 6 sets in a row right now as Andreev lost the first set to Baggy.

My longest streak was just 8 sets in a row...

Just lost our 5 Andreev pickers.

We will lose our Nadal picker as well as that's his last pick.

16 of us still alive for next round (or 14 if Nadal loses):

- 14 have both Federer and Nadal
- 2 have just Nadal

I have Federer, Nadal, and Moya and am the only one who can afford a Nadal loss. Should that happen...very tough to decide what to do next.

So... 14 of us go in to the final with a chance to win (unless Nadal gets upset, which throws most of us out the window).
I.. I have no idea. I kind of just want to stand behind my man Roger, but URK. Nadal is ALSO the riskier semi, but... Not REALLY risky, I don't think..

i would say federer is the riskier semi. did you see his second set against robredo? that being said, i think both fed and nadal win easy.

All of my picks won in straight sets. That number is 29. Only miss was the retirement of Hajek against Baghdatis

Hey, fellow TW poster, we have a big decision to make tomorrow. Fed or Rafa.

I was thinking Federer seems the safer bet for semifinals...he doesn't lose when he's not supposed to usually. That doesn't mean he's a safer bet for the final of course.

Is there anyone who's not struggling with this decision...who has their mind made up and isn't giving this second thought?

Final counts (I believe) were 9 for Federer today and 7 for Nadal.

If they both win, we'll have 5 with Fed in the final and 9 with Nadal. Should have at least 5 beat the draw...quite the feat considering we had to pick 2 from every round all the way to the semis.

ptmcmahon
06-08-2007, 07:27 AM

ptmcmahon

7 more win today, but 2 are out of picks...so we have 5 more in the finals...14 total.

At least 5 people are going to beat the draw.

kmart93
06-08-2007, 07:18 PM
its alot easier to beat the draw when you know what two people will be in the final.
