View Full Version : Womens' DAY 5 (Friday) Picks - RGSP

Congratulations and Welcome to Day 5 (Friday) of the French Open Suicide Pool. Following Thursdays' bloodbath, we're now below 50% of our players that started the game. And we're also down to a smaller number of matches.

Day 5 features 8 matches from the TOP half of the Women’s draw. NOTE: Poutchkova/Hantuchova is also on the schedule for tomorrow, but since it is a carryover match from Round 2 which did not get played due to darkness, you may not select that match.

Remember, once you have selected a player, you cannot use them again - this starts to become an issue at this point, and hopefully you have (wisely) saved some smart choices for this round. Be sure to consult the Picks and Results thread to make sure your choice is not one you used before (a duplicate choice results in your elimination).

Your choices are due by the start of play on Friday, June 1, 11:00 a.m. Paris Time (5:00 a.m. USA Eastern Time, 2:00 a.m. US West Coast time).

Good luck, everyone!

Justine Henin BEL (1) vs. Mara Santangelo ITA (28)
Sybille Bammer AUT (20) vs. Na Li CHN (16)
Dinara Safina RUS (10) vs. Francesca Schiavone ITA (23)

Marion Bartoli FRA (18) vs. Elena Dementieva RUS (13)
Stephanie Cohen-Aloro FRA vs. Tathiana Garbin ITA (19)

I'm saving Garbin...just in case Nicole's achy wrists start flaring up. I saved a particular player for this particular day, thinking back to her debut Night Tennis match at the USO in '02, and who was across the net against her that night...and who I think she'll be playing next round.

My Day 5: Dinara Safina

Ugh, really hard choice. I'm actually thinking ahead this time so I'll go with...

Dinara Safina please.

Well her older brother failed me so I hope it doesn't run in the family.

I think this is a right time to go for an upset - Sybille Bammer.

She is better than Li on clay and I wouldn't trust Garbin to beat anyone on anything...

You know what? It's BAMMER TIME! (just cuz I wanted to say that - it may kill me but it's worth it) :cheesy: Go Sybille!

In one suicide pool last year, IA, Dinara and Marat double cheeked me on the same day, within 15 minutes of each other. That led to SP Rule 16.06(a) - never pick a brother and sister to win on the same day.

Ouch. Well I DID pick them on separate days so I hope that's ok... or there may be an amendment to the Rule XD.

In the event that Han Tu (Kova) prevails, I considered Na Li, and consulted the Sybille to ask whether it was Na Li or Li Na. Floating back from the oracle came the Sybilline echo of "Li-Na, Na-Li, Li-Na, Na-Li, best call the calling-off off!" so I decided to go with the Sybille herself, and pick:

SYBILLE BAMMER!

as always, NetPlay's daily posts make all the work that goes into running a Suicide pool worthwhile. I wish I knew where to look in my local B&N for some of his published work.

Na Li.

She plays well in the majors and always seems to be able to at least meet her seeding. And she has the weight of a nation of a billion-plus (and me) counting on her.
