I thought we had more players than that?

Very pleased to be in second place so far! Not bad, seeing what I DON'T know about golf could fill up a space the size of the former Soviet Union. :)

These must just be the leaders. I'm in the contest but I don't think my team is doing very well.

I guess Micheel was not a very inspired choice!

How quickly things change! nelslus' team really comes through for him and puts him in a great position for the final two days :) Our first day leader, jsd123678456, has a complete reversal of fortunes. Rich Beem going under par on day 1 and shooting an 81 on day 2, did not help.

683.50 pts nelslus
710.50 pts shtexas
711.25 pts morct
716.55 pts mrjiggyfly2
717.85 pts Kirkus

726.30 pts AmonRa777
728.35 pts PeterSkan
734.35 pts aedra1119
758.10 pts jsd123678456

This brings the total scores to:

1409.15 pts nelslus
1423.60 pts morct
1424.75 pts dryrunguy
1436.30 pts Kirkus
1448.20 pts aedra1119

Remind me again next time NOT to put Jim Beam on on my golf fantasy squad.

So now, this is where I don't really understand how the scoring works... I have 7 guys left, with three of them practically on life support as Augusta goes. Which is worse? Having lost a few guys after yesterday because they didn't make the cut or having three guys still around that just might up and decide to go +10 for the day today?

I'll tell ya what- and maybe this shows yet again nelslus' lifetime love affair with math....but, nelslus sure as hell has no idea how he got the lead here. But, nelslus will take it, woo-hoom

When a player misses the cut...

You will have to rely on his teammates to help you out, basically :P For both of the remaining two rounds, players not in competition will receive the following round score:

Cat. A : 80 (+8)
Cat. B : 79 (+7)
Cat. C : 78 (+6)
Cat. D : 77 (+5)

The multiplication factor will not be applied to these scores - this is punishment enough as is.

Furthermore, final positions in the tournament will be translated to extra points. With less being more, overal team quality and success is rewarded.

So if a Category D player who's still alive posts a +7 for the day, it would have been better if he had not made the cut at all? Ouch!

Dry

At the end of the tournament, when final positions are translated into points, anyone who made the cut will be "worth" no more than 58 points (or thereabouts). Anyone who missed the cut will hit you with at least 59 points (or thereabouts). For the players who remain active on your team, it's now race #2 to finish as high as possible in the remaining group. The higher the final ranking, the lower the score, the better it is for you. You, dry, with only two players who missed the cut, are in a pretty good situation.

I'll admit to the scoring construction being a work in progress and might seriously simplify things next time 'round. Or maybe I'll just steal some formulas from PeterSkan's kitchen :D

- edit -

I'm doing a complete scoring system revision at the moment. If it doesn't change anything in the current standings, then I'm going with that. Brb....

- edit -

Blech. I've tested a better scoring system, but it does change the standings slightly..... :undecided:

You had Weir, Clarke, Appleby AND Singh do well for you :) With most scores being on the wrong side of par, and most teams in this competition consisting of players who shot (way) over par, yours was easily the best performing on this day :)

It's no biggie, Mr. Koffie. I was just curious if having guys make the cut and then perform horribly (e.g., Mayfair) would actually come back to haunt me.

Dry

P.S.--Actually, only one of my guys missed yesterday's cut (O'Hern).

I'll be implementing the new system next time round. I just realized it's not even my own invention - but it works perfectly, and that's what counts :D

Yeah, the cut was +9 and worse. I was surprised to see Scott out on the course when I came online earlier :D

Ready for a surprise? :D

The final round has handed one person a huge reward. Not only does his score hand him the final round victory by a mile, but it also propels him to #1 in the final standings! The added score for final player positions (as seen in brackets behind the 4th round scores) only solidifies his victory. A big round of applause goes to...

I'd like to thank all of you who entered this competition for playing  :) We got eleven teams, which was more than I expected, and it was a nice see-saw battle to the end!

Next up - and I hope to see you there again - is The Player's Championship which is played between May 10 and 13.

Ciao for now!

Thanks for running an interesting contest. I predict great things for this nice addition to our features here. Not, mind you, that I have any great record at predicting things around here!

Nevertheless, I remember when I first started my own slam contests I had 29 entries. A couple of years later it bloomed to 100. I had to devise all sorts of means to process and track that many participants. You are hereby warned heheheheh

I'm curious, though, what the scores would look like if you only assigned points strictly on the basis of placements in each round. First place gets 1 point, 2nd place gets 2 points, etc. Players not making the cut retain their factor placings in the third and fourth round. I'm not suggesting that this would be better for the contest, [certainly would be more staid] ... just wondering if the final results would shift at all.

If it's too much bother, well, don't bother.

Thanks again.

Ugh, and now you have me curious also :D :p Besides the scoring system you saw here, I double checked - literally - with two other scoring systems to see what the outcomes would be. One based on the lowest round being worth 10 pts and all other rounds being rated based on that one, and one based on averages which was more complicated than what I did now :p Good thing was, the results as you see them here were repeated. Kirkus won in each variation, with nelslus and morct making up the top three each time and only minor variations in the lower ranks so to say. I'll check your system out as well, perhaps/probably in a month time during the PGA Players Championship. At the moment, time has been planned in differently ;)

No problemo. 't Was fun :)
