poor you, Johansson's a hundred times hotter anyway. (I'm a guy, so don't take that comment too seriously). =] well, it 'seemed' like a pretty even match, i wouldn't know because i was watching through a Â*website. Â*i'm going based just on how the score jumped up and down. anyway, he has next year =]. if anything, this match may push him to pick up his game.

What'd he do, Sebastien?

the linesperson calling the line when Andy was serving into the deuce side was way out of position and looking at the call from an angle for some reason. It was bugging Roddick and he was spending a lot of energy arguing about it with the chair and mocking the linesperson.
for almost any player this is a huge mistake, especially in a fifth set. The camera showed Brad pointing to his head just praying Andy would drop it and regain focus on the match ... only Mac and Nasty could make asses of themselves and play better
It's obvious that Andy needs to learn to shut up and play

You hit the nail right on the head, Sebers. Except you're a little too nice about it. Always the diplomat. ;)
Right after Brad took him on, Andy's attitude on court started improving, and so did his game. He went from being an arrogant ball-basher to a focused professional with an expanding game. And it paid off... 2003 U.S. Open Champion. I've watched him over the past year revert back to that egotistical, arrogant kid that so many tennis fans see.
Boris Becker said that he looks at the speed gun numbers so often it's becoming a part of his service motion. He's constantly looking at himself on the big screen (has anyone else noticed this?), and his snide, snotty, conceited remarks to lines-people and umpires has returned and is getting worse. And it's paid off... out in the quarters of the 2004 U.S. Open.
He's a good-looking, sexy kid (that's for you Didger ;D). But until he gets back to the business of tennis and gives up the "this is my house" attitude, the Federers, Hewitts, and Johanssons are gonna leave him in their dust.
I still like you, Andy. But it's time to get your swelled up head out of your ass.

yeah ... Andy sticks with Brad and he'll be back on track in short order.
As for Andy's jerkiness ... I think he's a good kid, just immature. Andy is successfull, but he hasn't grown up yet. Andre was just as bad, if not worse.
Andy'll come around, but a person matures gradually ... so, unfortunately, we may be looking up at a cringing Gilbert a few more times in the future.

thats true about a lot of guys though. Nadal, Fish
I've never witnessed Nadal or Fish behave poorly like that. I've only seen Nadal play once but I've seen Fish play many times.
Any examples to share that could shed some light bets?

Nadal has thrown fits...not on court so much at practice he has been said to complain and whine when he is doing poorly and thats hard for me to say. Fish generally never does that he is a classy guy on court but he has had tantrums off court at practice. Id say Safin is like that on court but w/ him its not annoying.
NO! Whining and complaining in practice! Not that! Say it ain't so bets! lol
And Safin has become the sport's clown ... it's expected from him.

As far as what happened here are some possibilities:
1) J.J. put so much energy into the first two sets that he was worn out and couldn't play as well in the 3rd and 4th, thus giving Roddick a chance to surge ahead. Then by the 5th set J.J. had the energy to push himself into high gear again with the serves and forehands????
2) Or that Roddick distracted himself by trying to prance and fist pump and genrally show J.J. that he was "da man" . When Roddick thought he had the match in the bag he started looking at his camp giving them the thumb & pinky hand sign, etc. In other words he's caught up in some kind of Hollywood image, and needs to stay focused more on the game. (I don't blame him entirely because people like JMac are always saying that tennis needs more bad boys.
3) Didn't it seem that Roddick choked at the end of the 5th when he got broken. Maybe nerves came into play. Either that or J.J. picks his spots for when he tries his hardest to break and that was one of them.
PJ's gotta it down. I'm picking #2 as my favorite. That's exactly my point in my earlier post. That, and before Andy served in the 5th at 4-5, he'd only lost something like 1 point in 11 service games. Then I don't have a clue what happened. A double-fault, several UFEs and before you know it he's goin' back to Houston. The boy needs some serious training "between the ears".

Kirk,
I wonder what influence Brad Gilbert has on Roddick? Is he the one telling him to puff himself up and act "Alpha Male" on the court? He might think that's the way to intimidate an opponent.
I could be wrong, but I don't think it's Brad. On the contrary, not long after Brad joined his team, Andy calmed way down. It was more like business with him. He'd come out, do his job -- no whining or arguing or temper fits. Just recently, maybe since Wimbledon, he began to revert back to his teen-aged spoil brat persona.
I think you could be right-on about this loss being a good thing for him. Just because you say it's your house, doesn't make it your house.
