View Full Version : I don't know what to do!

I've just moved to a new area and was actually thinking about picking up the stick again, so I took my racket to be restrung and they refused to do it! I couldn't believe it! They said the grommets were too worn, which is true, but the thing is definitely stringable ... I could string the thing myself if I had access to a stringer!
In this area I've heard that they'll actually turn down racket restring jobs if the racket is over 3 years old. I've never heard of such a thing before. I was getting pretty hot with the guy, but he stood his ground and would not do the job. It sounds like a "racket" to me ... pardon the pun!
Now what ... I don't think I could bring myself to pay for a tennis racket, especially since anything decent is probably going to cost me 150/200 bucks. I love my Kennex Black Ace, but my baby needs strings!
What should I do? Forget about playing tennis for another decade or pony up the dough?
:-?

oh my, I wouldn't do that.
I personally use a 50 bucks worth hammer wilson racquet that is really light. I could only dream to afford 150-200 bucks worth racquet.
I have never gotten my string strung before but once I get even better with my game, I intend to have my string done(by loosening). I personally have no idea how to string my racquets, even if someone were to give me necessary materials for it.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa. First off, f* them for not stringing it, you are the customer, the customer is always right. It is not like you will hurt their stringing machine, they officially sucks.
None the less...
I order a new racquet guard (5-8 at a time) from tennis warehouse. It comes complete with the gromments. $5.00 - $6.00 per grommet. Order one for your racquet and tell the lazy SOBs to put it on for you when they string it. If they do not do it, do it yourself. It can be a tight fit, I recommend a stringing tool to actually help you get them on which is why I suggest you ask them to do it.
Order the grommet from tenniswarehouse.com, should be easy enough if your racquet is not too old. If you find out that your guard is not made and sold anymore, tell me the make and model (and size) and I will find it for you.
My last racquet's head guards were discontinued, but being lazy, Wilson designed another racquet and used the same head guard. So one way or the other I will either find someone who has an extra or I will find a newer racquet that uses the same guard.

WOW t4, you rock!
Yah, the stringerboy was a dipshit, but I decided not to force him to string the thing since he kept saying he'd cut the string in the process ... and I began to think he'd make sure it broke just to prove his point.
Anyway, do you know how incredibly old I am and how long since I last played? I don't think Kennex has made the Black Ace for quite some time. It may be tough to find. I don't want you to go to too much trouble, but if you know where I could get a grommet I would really appreciate that! Thanks!
I don't know about the Wilson Hammer sporto. The last racket I remember liking, and probably would have switched if I had kept playing, was the Wilson Prostaff. Do they still sell those?

There are 2 awesome forums for tennis items for sale. Tenniswarehouse.com has a great classifieds and of course so does tennis4you.com. :)
Tenniswarehouse.com's is huge, people make a living from that site. They sell used racquets and also look for them there. There are some great resources there. My site pales in comparrison to their classifieds, but I think mine is the second largest.
Tell me what racquets and their head sizes, I will hunt for you. :)
And yes, i think you can still find the Wilson Prostaff's. Head and grip size?
Hit me here or at tennis4you@hotmail.com
EDIT - - - For some reason I think you are not currently in the US or Canada? If that is the case that could be tougher to get people to send them cheaply.

Seriously! (squeak squeak squeak). And...
If old, fat Kirkus can "swing the stick" several times a week, so can you.

You can also try to buy a demo from a tennis shop.
Should run you no more then $90, strung (as opposed to $200). You just replace the grip: $5.
I also restring them, but that's just me :P
