1 match, 1 loss...Miami off to a good start!

03-20-2019, 12:13 PM
Yeah, but Sakkari stopped playing Sukkily and pulled out her match, so I am happy to have at least one pick survive.

03-20-2019, 12:23 PM
Good heavens...Berdych withdrew. A couple of hours in and 11/19 of us are gone.

I was 0/2 for mens these two SPs. The only thing I'm "practicing" is getting worse.

The first men's main draw match doesn't start until noon, so taking a chance and posting this to see if I can qualify. Totally understand if you won't allow this pick because it's past 10 am Eastern Time. I didn't notice today's rain-related OOP change of time. (Is it worth anything that most people think Indiana should be on Central Time?)

If this were a real suicide draw pool, the answer would be "No", but since this is just a practice pool, I'll say "yes". I suspected this would happen when I saw that there were only 17 picks at the time of the official deadline.

p.s. That means that I am also accepting mysterX's pick.

I figured I'd cursed Kukuskin with this bending of the rules in the Day 1 thread (above). Sure enough, he lost.

03-20-2019, 02:06 PM
If Jeremy Chardy loses first round (like he did at Indian Wells), we will have NO survivors after day one. That will be a record that can never be broken. I picked Kukushkin, thinking him a relatively safe bet. Oh, well.

Hey, wait!!! I just had a thought.....if Chardy loses and therefore everyone is eliminated on day one, doesn't that mean we have a 19-way tie for first? I think I'll want to think of it that way.:cheesy: GH

Or all 19 get a re-pick since this is practice, right.

19 practice medals!

Tomljanovic won! I am stunned! :freekingout::freekingout::freekingout:

What a mess on the women's side: we have Day 1 matches, Day 2 matches, and even a Day 3 match.

So both of mine won today.....Andreescu for day 1 and Sasnovich for day 2.....but both in 3 sets. So I've already done better than in Indian Wells.

I might not be able to log back on before tomorrow - if so this is my men's pick. I am using the OOP from Ti's post in the Miami thread.

Day 1: Jeremy Chardy
Day 2: Felix Auger-Aliassime
Day 3: Kyle Edmund

Wow, not only are we all over the place, but several people are dumping highly ranked players early on.

03-22-2019, 09:43 AM
I have never in my life felt more like NOT needing to save players for later on. With the mess that these 2 tournaments seem to be, "later on" doesn't happen for many SP players.

03-22-2019, 11:49 AM
Yeah I picked Stephens because I don't think she's going very deep here. Of course, more often than not they prove you right by losing the day you pick them.

03-22-2019, 11:52 PM
I picked Kerber because I thought she was an amazingly safe pick.....she did win, but in three sets. All 3 of mine have won in 3 sets, and yet each day I picked ones I thought were totally safe, well "totally safe" by SP standards, which means maybe 60-40.

I am impressed with the remaining WTA pickers. After looking through there lists of picks, the only picks that they have used that will be alive in the quarterfinals will be their round of 16 picks. People frequently find that they have used almost all of the quarter-finalists, and need to worry about running out of usable picks. Not this group.
