Talk about picks, rue your days, etc

And what's a lounge without jukebox videos?

Miami video ... in a rather different genre:

Using DaveG's day 1 totals...

Azarenka 14
Konta 4
Brady 3
Vondrousova 3
Andreescu 1
Golubic 1
Rybarikova 1
Yastremska 1

25/28 ... that's incredible for IW!

Out at the first with Golibic

Adventurous pick. I was tempted, but Strycova is a veteran, and I wondered if Golubic was tired after winning the IW challenger.

Well, at least I survived day 1 on the men's side...I was the idiot who picked Rybarikova on the women's side.

I got double-cheeked Thursday, day one of men (I picked Chardy, whom I saw as a pretty safe pick, ha ha!) and Maria Sakkari. This was pathetic even by my low standards.

Good luck to the rest of you. On to Miami!!! (where I will doubtless have equal success).

Wow, it didn't take me long to land here (fast quick and in a hurry)...ugh. Reilly Opekla on the men's side, and Taylor Townsend ko'd me on the women's side. Good Luck to the rest of the survivors, and it's on to Miami. Hopefully I will do better there, cause it was a disaster in Cali. Now that I'm here....Caramel Apple Martini's and keep them coming....;)

Ah, that familiar feeling. Out in the second day, thanks to a pair of lousy tie-breaks from Berdych. Just like I remembered it.
Tomorrow, one truly stupid pick on the women's side and back to what I always do so well :)

On to Miami. How nice to be free of the burden of having to post a pick each day :)

For what it's worth, I seriously considered picking against Feliciano Lopez... It's not like he's been winning matches. But I got lucky and picked against Donald Young instead.

Oops, forgot a pick today.

I went out to the dreaded No Pick as well. You'd think by now I'd have learned to put "No pick" on my "Do Not Pick" list!

Just to mock us some more...our women's IW winner...was a day 1 pick :)

AAAH! The delicious feeling of coming back to check scores and see that Berdych took me out, together with 7 more poor souls.
Rejoice, my fellow suicides. It means we will lose in the first day of the RG pool but NOT because of a withdrawal. It will be progress when we pick a frenchie and he loses 9-7 in the fifth.

....and I was the one who picked her. I decided, based on my Indian Wells record, that I would pick the "safest" pick I could, and forget worrying about maybe needing her later. Obviously, she might withdraw or lose love and love today. That seems to be the way it goes.

double-cheeked on (actual) Day 1 in Miami. Berdych has a back ache.

And I have GOT to learn not to pick against WCs I've never heard of. Sometimes, they're 6' tall lefties who won 2 junior slams, and take out Puig in routine fashion.

About Scotty's note.....My problem is that, after 10 or more years of doing SP's, I can come up with a reason NOT to pick every single player in the field. So what do you do? Quite obviously, I don't know the answer to that.

Well, a few of us were Sevastova'ed today. At least I did better in Miami than I did in IW!

Yep. An ode to "Sympathy for the devil": "Anastasia screamed in vain".
So I am out and next stop will be the RG SP, which, as it will be held in France, will mean plenty of us guillotined on the first day.
I did not do that bad, have to admit. Anything over three picks these days is good.

Since Kerber lost after midnight in my time zone and I'd already posted a Sevatsova pick today I'm calling that two losses in one day.

I saw a post yesterday that Anderson was in a lot of pain and had called the trainer out. I then promptly forgot to look to see if he won.

Back to some Crown Royal Bourbon Mash for me.
