Uncle PeterSkan Wants You !!!

That's right ... let's make the USO Skantest *Great Again* !!!!

Well, actually, the Contests have been going great guns this year, and we're already up to 27 teams without me having prompted TAT entries, so let me re-phrase:

Let's make the 2018 USO Skantest *AS GREAT* as the others.

Here's the dilly ... same rules, same excitement, same drama! The web page is all set up on the host site so go ahead and check out the draw, compile your team and submit your entry. Easy-Peasy!

Here's the link to the list of the current entries, and you can post your entry from there:

http://www.tennisgamers.com/board/slams/skanteams.php?t_name=2018_USO_SkanCanTest

If you run into some problem or other, you can always post them in this thread and I'll set up your team for you. Don't forget to rely on the rankings table on the entry page. If you use the tournament seedings you will run into trouble. For example, if you wanted Serena on your team and specify WTA17 [her tournament seeding], you will actually get the currently #17 ranked Barty, and you will get her points instead of Serena's [who is ranked 26th]!! The good news is you can always amend your team up to the start of play.

Also ... check out the various analytical tools on the SKAN site - always lots of fun!

Never played before??? No problem. Give it a try - but be forewarned: the SKAN can be mighty addictive!

Many humble and sincere thanks to the head honchos at TAT for allowing this thread as an outside contest.

Best wishes to all contestants!!!

Pete

Well - that didn't take long. 36 teams, including mine, just got plastered by Halep ... right out of the gate!

I have never changed a Skan team after entering it. I had an uneasy feeling this time and was debating about removing Halep. I instead made another change and left her. Oops!

R1 leader is Zett by 1 point over Batak23. Best 1st round team is

1. Fed
2. Sloane
3. Kiki
4. Coric
5. A Zverev
6. Sharapova

39 teams still fully intact, so lots of opportunity still. Halep was a first round killer! Unusually, 10 teams with Q points in R1, courtesy of Stan the Man.

Tip of the hat to the top scoring team with at least 1 loser:

Fed/Sloane/Tsitsipas/Kvotiova/Kyrgios/Anisimova

Onwards to R2 ...

After two rounds, there are only 20 fully intact teams. None of these teams have either of the top two WTA seeds [Halep and Wozniacki] or either Tsitsipas or Murray on the men's side.

Amazingly, however, that doesn't include our leader JAZZNU. Here's the makeup of the currently leading team:

1. Serena
2. Cilic
3. Bertens
4. Nadal
5. Stephens
6. Tsitsipas

Big-time domination points in that mix!

Lowest fully intact team is skilletsauce in 32nd place.

On to round 3 ...

Congratulations to the three contestants with fully intact teams through 3 rounds of play [1st place Windsongs; 2nd place TennisAnyone74; 6th place Ribbons]. Here's the tally for current leader Windsongs' "Ultra Team":

Nadal 108 60 6 174
Serena 187 60 16 263
Djokovic 97 60 7 164
Keys 70 60 0 130
Stephens 44 60 0 104
Nishikori 23 60 20 103

I haven't heard the fat lady sing yet, there are still lots of options on the table. Onwards to the Round of 16!

After four rounds, Windsongs' "Ultra Team" strengthens its lead and is the only remaining fully intact team ...

Japan will decide the winner

Here is the analysis from Graveller - formidable insight, as always:

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

@ PeterSkan:
So we are now in the SF, and it is actually a two-horse race between Windsongs and tennisanyone74.
I cannot see anyone else winning.

Windsondgs wins if
a) Keys reaches the F
b) Osaka loses in the F, but Nishikori gets to the F
c) Nishikori wins the F

Any other scenario will result in a win for tennisanyone74

I was considering that IcePrincess could win too because she has DelPotro, but I think that she is too much behind tennisanyone74.
If the tree remaining team members from Iceprincess would get to the final (Djoko, DelPo, Serena), then tennisanyone74 would also have three finalists: Djoko, Serena + winner of Osaka vs Keys.

The only difference is one player (DelPo & Keys/Osaka), it is very hard to close a 300-points gap with one player. It may be possible if DelPo wins with a massive score vs Nadal, And Serena wins the final with a massive score (bagels and breadsticks). In both cases, Tennisanyone would get (a lot of) negative points for Nadal and for both losses of Keys and Osaka in the SF and F.

Divan25 can move up to #3 if Nishikori does well (and maybe get to #2 if Nishikori wins the slam). Nihikori losing in the final will not get him to #2 because the current #2 tennisanyone has both Osaka and Keys (Final points), and Divan has neither of them.

But if Keys wins her SF today, I think that it all will be decided in favor of Windsongs.

And one more note: Anishmitch has both Nishikori and Keys, so will definitely get on the podium if both win the slam, but Windsongs has both too, so impossible to catch (500 points gap)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thanks, Grav!

That analysis actually gives me some hope! I thought I had no chance given the fact that Windsongs and I have the exact same four players in the same order, and she/he has almost 100 points more than me.

C'mon Osaka!

Looking good for TennisAnyone74. Osaka's win over Keys vaults her into the lead. Not sure if there's a team out there with delPo that might win if he takes the title on Sunday. None of the scenarios that Grav outlined for Windsongs to win the Skan are in play.

Updated analysis from Graveller - it seems an Osaka loss and Delpo win snags the Crown away from TA74 :(

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

So the race is not over yet... Iceprincess got within 200 points of tennis anyone; Keys and Nadal lost a lot of points for tennisanyone.

So it is now all clear: If Osaka wins this evening, then tennisanyone wins too. If not, it will be DelPo who decides: a win by the argentinian would give the Skan to Iceprincess in that case.

TA74 was the only contestant with Osaka on her team, and that carried her to victory. Here's the winning team ...

Congratulations, TA. I might add that TA has played virtually every Skan since its inception. I'll have to check the record but I think this might be her first outright victory. Is that right, TA?

Persistence paid off!
