This is where we come together to sit and eat strawberries and cream, drink Pim's and chat about the players. Feel free to drop by whenever the spirit moves you. We enjoy discussing the players' strengths, weaknesses, color palette preferences, and pratfalls.

Be forewarned, everyone will be expected to rise if the Queen pays us a visit. ;)

I find the ones right when slams finish the easiest ones to miss...especially if I record finals and wind up watching them Sunday night, so I stay off TAT for most of the weekend!

Initial player counts - apologies if some wrong, there are a lot of people picked in this contest.

A: Federer 17, Vandewedge 14, Kvitova 11, Kerber 3, Cilic 3, A Zverev 1, Nadal 1, V Williams 1

B: Barty 12, Muller 6, Mertens 6, Shapovalov 5, Konta 5, Rybarikova 4, Raonic 4, Osaka 4, Mannarino 3, Kohlschreiber 3, Edmund 3, Lopez 3, Gasquet 3, Berdych 2, Sharapova 1, Chung 1, Osaka 1, Kontaviet 1, Khachanov 1

C: Haase 6, Sugita 5, Medvedev 3, Vekic 3, Van Uytvanck 2, Sabalenka 2, Murray 2, Safarova 2, Johnson 2, Giorgi 2, Krunic 2, Collins 1, Fucsovics 1, Gojowcyzk 1

D: M Zverev 14, Kr. Pliskova 9, Marterer 2, Struff 2, Watson 2, Bedene 1, Flipkens 1, Witthoeft 1, Townsend 1, Fritz 1, Ebden 1, Bencic 1

E: Riske 8, Herbert 2, Karlovic 2, Azarenka 2, Posposil 1, Chardy 1, Stosur 1

One not at all surprising unanimous pick. The one that really surprised me, at least in terms of how many people picked him, was Mischa Zverev (tied for second most picked). As soon as I saw how close he was to Federer in draw this week I wanted nothing to do with him.

Gojowczyk wins the prize for first player picked to withdraw.

This is my first time playing FT and lordd the amount of work that goes into selecting a team is impressive. By the time I covered player availability I was too burned out to actually check the draws.

I was more the opposite, by the time I checked the draws I was too burned out to check availability (much.)

I admittedly didn't spend as much time picking my team as I have in years past (not expecting I'll pick up another medal here), but I wasn't crazy about the players in that section, so I stuck with him. Fed is a problem this week (Mischa really has bad luck with draws btw). But maybe not the weeks after this one was my thinking. I have other questionable picks too, like not sure one of mine is doing a warm up even though she has in the past. We'll see.

Category D invariably makes me appreciate how diabolical this contest is, because the pickings are so slim. On the ATP side, a bunch of the players are over the hill, a bunch are more allergic to grass than Ivan Lendl, many are playing only one warmup, and the guys currently signed up for all four weeks won't necessarily play all four, never mind get past the first round. Bad luck notwithstanding, Mischa's prrrrrrrobably good for at least 60 points, which is 55 more than I would count on the likes of Pella or Vesely picking up.

On the WTA side, the ones who have good records on grass likewise struck me as aging, injury prone, or deep in slump-land (I got burned trading for Witthoeft in TSiP). The Townsend pick surprised me given that she's 1-4 lifetime on grass (and 4 of the 5 were in qualies). I do like Taylor, but my that's a leap of faith.

Yeah the Townsend pick was a complete lottery pick, not based on any results. Just hoping she gets a good draw at Wimby and takes a couple rounds...and category D gets slim like you say! So many of the tournaments coming up have entry lists that end in the C group.

And just to spite me...Mischa took the first set off Roger this AM...going to a third now, but making me look very silly so far.

Been a bad AM actually, lots of our players have been losing...right after predictions deadline too.

There were 12 mens matches today, and in 8 of them the loser was someone at least one of us picked. Women were a little better, with only 3 of today's 8 losers picked.

Losses include our second most picked B player, our top three C players, and top D player (with our #2 player losing yesterday.)

Good picking. All eight finalists were picked by at least one contestant. That doesn't happen very often. :)

Greatly enjoying my traded-IN risky pick Kyrgios throwing away the first set against Murray. Didn't seem to fancy fighting it out from deuce at 2-2

I didn't see it, but even as a loss, it seems like it was a good match for Murray. So that is promising at least.

As one of the couple who picked Murray, I'm choosing to take this as a good warm-up, but the loss scared everyone else from picking him up for Wimbledon, where he will win. :) And only get yoort and I points.

And nice pick up oploskoffie!

Yes, but I was going to dump him after this week, partly for this reason.

I watched. He looked great out there. If you had no clue, you'd never guess he'd been out a full year.

I'm not picking him as my fave for Wimbledon, but I'd be shocked if he wasn't a top 5 pick for oddsmakers given how he looked today.

Yeah. Kicking myself for trading for him, especially since he dumped me out of a suicide pool with an earlier injury. Fool me twice...

Nobody believe the hype! :) Don't waste a trade on Murray.

I almost used a trade on Kerber this week, and guess good I didn't waste the move. Although getting Coco off my team would've felt good.

This is my first time playing FT, and I've been looking at some numerical indicators to get a better grasp of game strategy (still elusive!). I did notice some interesting patterns, most notably that many of us have upwards of 70% team overlap.

Week 2 was generally less successful: the average score went down from 1,821 to 1,274 points (-30%). This was largely a result of only 14 winner picks (out of 68 attempts) down from 34 last week.

The overall standings haven't changed too drastically. However, if you look at the weekly rankings, the bottom and top performers have completely flipped in Week 2:

Only two matches in Antayla today of course...just enough to force a Sunday deadline. And I swear Chardy was one of the final two I considered for my E pick! ;)

:thanks:I've always liked Jeremy - would have loved for him to have won one of these tourneys, and not just because he was my E player. That said, I do consider him a handsome chap, and if he had done terribly for me, at least we could have sat in the in lounge together and I could have gazed into his eyes while drowning our miseries. :drunk1::smitten:

In honor of Jeff's lead, here's a snapshot of Jeremy Chardy from Memphis 2010. (In spite of the dodgy quality, I'm proud of it because it lured another member of tennis fandom into my shallow end of the pool. Quote: "I had no idea Jeremy Chardy was so good-looking.")6038

And, with a better camera, souvenirs of his victory over John Isner at Coupe Rogers 2015:

Chardy got a poor draw, so here's hoping. Hopefully I won't Suliso jinx Chardy, but in honor of his contributions to my Green Acres run, I've changed my avatar. Go Jeremy! Remember, there is a reason you were a former boy's champ!
