Here's the place to talk about the contest! A pick tracker will be posted after main draw play begins, and will in the best case be updated daily. Scoreboards will be posted after each round concludes.

The first version of the Pick Tracker is ready. You can find it at PICKS (http://www.talkabouttennis.com/contests/ycwj/FO2018/FO2018_YCWJ_Pick_0.pdf). It will change if any draw changes impact these picks, but hopefully there won't be many changes at this point. Please review your picks, and if you see any errors, feel free to either PM me or post here.

New with this contest is a Spoon Tracker, which shows players who are a) still in the hunt for the Wooden Spoon; and b) have been picked by at least one contestant. You can find the Spoon Tracker at SPOON (http://www.talkabouttennis.com/contests/ycwj/FO2018/FO2018_YCWJ_Spoon_0.pdf). All I can say there is not much love for Marius Copil and Chloe Paquet (or their first round opponents, or their second round opponents, and so on).

The scoreboard will appear after each round. I plan to update the other two trackers after each round is complete as well.

I was worried for a while that Chloe Paquet had forgotten how to lose.

With the first round almost complete. it is time to take a look at the first round scoreboard. A whopping 6 contestants are already in the lounge with all 8 picks through to the second round. Kudos to deelighted2, Federex, Omegadoom, ptmcmahon, tenedab and Togtdyalttai for putting up a perfect score. And kudos to either jazzyg or PeterSkan, depending on the outcome of the Huge Herbert/Polansky match, currently at one set apiece. The loser of that match will be the 7th contestant with a full team for the next round.

Overall, it seems like the TAT community has picked extremely well for the first round. Maybe we are starting to get the hang of this contest! Six more contestants have 7 picks still in the contest, though that number may go down depending on how the remaining R1 matches finish. This is my first time running the contest from the beginning, so I haven't been following past contests as closely as I am this one, but it seems like the scores for Round 1 are unusually high.

There were 87 players in the draw who were selected by at least one YCWJ contestant. 55 remain just before the start of the second round. In addition to the Herbert/Polansky R1 match, there are 13 round matches which represent a faceoff between YCWJ contestants. The Cecchinato/Trungelliti matchup features 18 Marius Copil pickers versus one lone Tomic picker (patrick). Anther contest to watch is Zhang/Begu (7 Kucovas vs 5 Schmiedlovas).

Good luck to all contestants in round 2 (unless your player needs my player to win ;))

You remember how after round 1 I complemented the TAT contestants for their strong picking. Well, to categorize our round 2 performance, I may have to borrow something which often makes an appearance in the Suicide Pool threads.

:axe:

Actually, it may not be all that bad, but there was definitely some drop-off in performance in R2. With 31 contestants, there are 248 picks. 185 picks survived the first round, or about 75% of the original picks. After R2, 92 picks remain, which means that slightly less than half of the surviving picks from R1. Which I guess isn't all that bad, but it doesn't live up to the promise shown in R1. Two of the three biggest bandwagons turned into bannedwagons, as Copil's conqueror Cecchinato continued his winning ways in R2, and Paquet lost to Parmentier, who in turn did not lose to Cornet. The remaining bandwagon, the 14 pickers of Amandine Hesse, survived into R3, where they are relying on Yulia Putintseva to fall to the suddenly mighty Qiang Wang (although a couple of Yafan Wang pickers are hoping for the opposite result).

For the contest, tenedab maintains a one point lead over Pione Sisto, ptmcmahon and Togtdyalttai. And there are an additional five contestants within 5 points of the leader. For R2, tenedab tied for the high score with 12 points, along with Pione Sisto, mysterX and IronMike. No one has been eliminated yet, although there are a couple with only a single pick left.

Of the 9 R3 matches pitting YCWJ contestants against each other, in additionl to the Hesse vs Wang pickers mentioned above, the Rybarikova vs Tsurenko match pits 5 Chiesa pickers vs 1 Siegemund picker. Fognini vs Edmund represents 4 Selas vs 3 Pospisil, and Ka Pliskova/Sharapova is also 4 Ponchets/3 Bondarenkos.

Still a wide open contest. Good luck in Round 3.

My big bet of Zverev losing to Dzuhmur almost came true, if it weren't for the worst serve-for-the-match game in my living memory. I fully accept finishing last again.

Round 3 is complete, and tenedab has moved into a one-point lead over Pione Sisto. Tied for third, two points back, are Federex, IronMike and Togtdyalttai. All five of the leaders plus jazzyg have 3 picks remaining. All other contestants either have 2, 1 or, in a few cases 0 picks remaining. Patrick has clinched the YCWJ Wooden Spoon, closing out with a single-digit score.

In R3, 48 picks survived to the next round, slightly under half of the 92 open picks after R2. The biggest bannedwagon crash were the 14 Hesse pickers, who were eliminated by Yulia Putintseva's come-from-behind defeat of Qiang Wang, although Yulia's win did help a couple of Yafan Wang pickers.Kristina Kucova, with 7 pickers, is represented by Caroline Garcia who goes up against Kerber, representing no one. The Maria/Serena match is a YCWJ matchup, with 4 Ponchet pickers rooting for a Maria loss, against 6 Isabelle Wallace pickers needing Serena to lose (good luck with that!) There are four other matchups in R4 which pit two active YCWJ picks against each other.

Contest details have been updated at the links below (The Spoon Tracker was re-labelled at the request of PeterSkan).Best of luck in Round 4.

Round 4 is complete, and tenedab continues to hold a 1 point lead over Federex and Pione Sisto. Federex is one of four contestants with two picks remaining, the others being Togtdyalttai, Omegadoom and texasniteowl. Little over half the field has one player left, with the remainder out of the contest.

There are 25 picks remaining in play. Of these 5 are in position 1, 7 are in position 2, 4 are in position 3, and 9 are in position 4. The majority of the remaining picks are for three different players:

Kristina Kucova, representing 7 contestants, including IronMike and texasniteowl with her in positoin 1. Kucova pickers need Kerber to lose to Halep to stay alive
Isabelle Wallce, representing 6, with Federex holding her in position 1. Wallace pickers Sharapova to lose to Muguruza to stay alive.
Deborah Chiesa, representing 5, with Woody and PeterSkan holding her in position 1. Chiesa pickers need Muguruza to lose to Sharapova to stay alive.

Other players still eligible for a Wooden Spoon with picks are Vasek Pospisil (Cilic) picked by 3, Peter Gojowycz (Zverev) picked by 2, Feliciano Lopez (Schwartzman) picked by 1, and Frances Tiafoe (Thiem) picked by 1.

Updated scores and picks can be found at the links below. Best of luck to all contestants with a chance of winning.

After the quarterfinals, Federex has moved into a 1-point lead over tenedab. There are 19 open picks, spread out over 5 players, but the contest essentially comes down to the Halep vs Muguruza match (which is going on as I type this). The 7 Kristina Kucova pickers are rooting for a Halep loss, while the 6 Isabelle Wallace pickers want Muguruza to lose. If Halep loses, then IronMike will likely be the repeat winner. If Muguruza loses, then Federex will likely take the title. This is an unofficial count, but since the pickers of the other three players who can win the Wooden Spoon were picked by players who 1) picked those players as later selections, and 2) are too far back to overtake the current leaders, I believe it is the case.

Updated scores and picks can be found at the links below. Best of luck to all contestants with a chance of winning.

The Semifinals are complete, and with one round to go, we can declare a winner for this edition of YCWJ. Federex has remained in the lead, and cannot be caught. Furthermore, Federex's team has a chance to have both Wooden Spoon winners, with Isabelle Wallace being represented by Simona Halep, and Vasek Pospisil represented by Rafa Nadal. The other players eligible for the wooden spoon, Nicolas Jarry (if Thiem loses) and Jelena Ostapenko (!?) were not picked by any contestant.

In the finals, Isabelle Wallace was picked by 6 contestants, including Federex in the number 1 position. Pospisil was picked by 3 contestants, with Charlie02123 having Vasek in position 3 and two others in position 4. On the not-so-great side, one of yoort's picks (Sloane Stephens) has a chance to win the slam title. If that happens, maybe yoorrt or any future player with a slam winner as one of their picks should have a medal taken away :cheesy:.

Updated scores and picks can be found at the links below. Here's hoping for Isabelle Wallace and Vasek Pospisil to win their Wooden Spoons and maximize the scores of the contestant who were smart enough to pick them.

The 2018 French Open is over, and for the TAT community, the title of the contest has proven to be accurate, as no one won Jack. Simona Halep and Rafael Nadal winning their respective finals removed the Isabelle Wallace and Vasek Pospisil pickers from contention. Neither of the Wooden Spoon winners, Nicolas Jarry and Jelena Ostapenko, were picked by any contestant.

For the contest, Federex wins the first place medal by 3 points over tenedab, Pione Sisto finished in third, 1 point back. Federex put together a strong roster, scoring consistently through all rounds but the last. Well done to Federex! A separate congratulations thread will be posted shortly.
