If you are paying attention, then you are aware that the weather is wreaking havoc on completion of the 2018 Australian Open qualifying tournament, which may affect the time it takes for qualifiers to be placed in the main draw and the time it takes for us, as suicide pool administrators, to post our Day 1 threads and ensure thread accuracy.

This means it is very likely that the window of time available for people playing the game to post picks may be unusually compressed and inconvenient.

We encourage you to monitor these events as they unfold on your own, to check frequently for the Day 1 Order of Play, to actively double check for any irregularities (potentially a mix of top-half and bottom-half matches due to the difficult situation qualifiers may face), and to be prepared to post your picks within an unusually compressed timeframe.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will do our level best to get threads posted as quickly as possible while safeguarding the accuracy of the information we post. It is, however, incumbent on the people playing the game to do their part as well and to be prepared for unusual circumstances.

Thank you for your flexibility and patience.

Okay. I can report that Day 1 of the suicide pool will consist of matches from the top half of the draw for the men and the bottom half of the draw for the women. Obviously, the qualifiers remain unnamed as they still have to complete the final round of qualifying. So there will be no "mixed" schedule to accommodate qualifiers as was being discussed by commentators yesterday.

Play starts (in the US) tomorrow at 7 pm, right? That's when the first pick will be due, before 7 p.m. Eastern on Sunday?

Yes. You have all day to suffer your picks. But by nightfall, that feeling of dread will start to sink in.

The Day 1 threads for the men and women are going up as I type. Please read the instructions in each thread CAREFULLY. The qualifiers have not yet been placed in the draw because the final round of qualifying has not yet been completed.

So you have a few choices... You can either wait until the qualifiers are placed in the draw and make your selection then, or you can pick matches now that do not involve qualifiers, or you can now pick a named player over an unnamed qualifier.

As already noted, the choices come from the TOP half of the men's draw and the BOTTOM half of the women's draw.

Good luck! Y'all gonna need it.

Okay. The qualifiers have been placed in the Day 1 men's draw. So we are good to go.

If you elect to change your pick from one you have already posted, as previously instructed, please make a new post in the men's Day 1 thread.

For women’s day 2, I am going with the tweet from the official tournament and several journalists that Gasparayan withdrew and was replaced by a LL. The OOP didn’t have that, and the women’s draw page. Is down.

It's less than 2 hours until the start of play on Day 2 of the Australian Open, but I'm still missing 41 people in the men's pool. Don't wait until the last moment. Get those picks in!
