The Suicide Pools came up with the name first, but for this contest, it truly is a Loser's Lounge. So feel free to curse or praise your team, or discuss how the contest is going.

Do we get a tournament list? Because the Guadalajara Open, The Chichicastenango invitational and the Wang Deng Fuhn Cup will be played during these days and I want to know if I can pick from there ;)

I've been good picking men to win so far this year so I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing that this contest is men this year.

Man, we are good. D-team favorite Istomin hadn't won a main tour hardcourt match since Dubai until today...

He's won two more matches already this week!

ptmcmahon
09-29-2017, 06:41 PM
And Baghdatis one game away from joining them in the semis. That would be my entire D team! Three semifinalists in one tournament, all D team. Last month in THRNY I don't think I had 3 semifinalists in one week, let alone an entire freaking D team. I could never get three D semifinalists if I tried.

Meanwhile the top three seeds here didn't win a single match combined. The tennis fantasy gods are not without their sense of humor.

Three finalists this week...gotta be my most all year in any of these contests.

Also, feels weird to look at a draw, see your player against Tomic...and be disappointed.

So, I may have had a good 1st week, but I've been traveling since and not had a chance to check in. And I just missed making trades for this week too. So look for me to drop even further!

ptmcmahon
10-02-2017, 03:38 AM
Tomic actually won...yay! I almost traded out Sosua when I saw he was playing Bernie, but no need.

ptmcmahon
10-02-2017, 06:37 AM
One of my favorite parts of Greatest Loser is you get immediate feedback if you made a good trade or not. I already know adding Verdasco worked out well this week.

ptmcmahon
10-05-2017, 06:09 PM
I very nearly did a Sousa for Sugita trade this week when I saw Sousa drew Tomic. At that point Sousa was not in next week's draw.

Now, Sousa is in and Sugita is still playing this week. That was nearly a waste of a trade and big loss of points.

Only 2 of the first 9 matches are main draw...just enough to prevent us from being able to see who qualifies :)

So Chardy qualified for the three of us that added him...and drew the Chinese wild card of course (who has no ATP level wins this year.)

Of my three guys in qualifying, the two I kept lost, and the one I traded out won. It's gonna be a long week.

So...I'm back from my trip finally. The Bad news: As expected, I have dropped in the rankings since Week 1. I did not get back in time to make trades for this week in Shanghai. And seriously ... Goffin had to go and win twice. He was supposed to lose for me!

The good news: I still have all 6 trades available to use in weeks 5, 6, and 6. AND...by some miracle, 8 of my original team are playing Shanghai! I only have 4 players sitting this week out! Yay! I might have a decent showing after all.

ptmcmahon
10-09-2017, 07:10 AM
Oops...I mean I never doubted Chardy for a second. Qualifying to lose to a winless player is pretty much the pinnacle of what you can do in Greatest Loser.

ptmcmahon
10-17-2017, 05:28 AM
Oh yeah. NOW Istomin loses in first round after I've kicked him off my team.

Did Verdasco just rob me of a useful trade? He was supposed to lose to Cilic but now Cilic is scheduled to play Florian Mayer.

mysterX
10-23-2017, 10:15 PM
The OOP just published by Ti-Amie confirms it. Verdasco is out, F Mayer is in. That Verdasco, what a loser....

texasniteowl

sigh.

He could have at least had the courtesy to withdraw before the trade deadline.

I would also like to point out that I had added him as well. He can't even lose properly.

ptmcmahon

I'm conflicted about if this 1/8th of the draw is good or bad news:

(7) David Goffin/Bye
Adrian Mannarino vs David Ferrer
(WC)Julien Benneteau vs Denis Shapovalov
Bye/(11) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

I have 4 of those 6 (and I know a bunch of people also added Shapovalov.) It does mean only one of them will make quarters...but also they are going to pick up some wins among them.

Funny too, next line in draw is RBA, my third A player, just in the next 1/8th.

ptmcmahon
10-30-2017, 04:43 AM
And RBA could play Chardy. Half my team is on those 6 consecutive lines in the draw. Maybe good, maybe bad.

It was weird having enough players who qualified...I actually used my last trade to drop someone playing this week. Actually had a B player with bye so may work out if I got a first round loser.

EDIT: HE ALREADY WON! (haase.) Jeebus! And in less than an hour.

I'd like to give a tip of the cap to Paolo Lorenzi. Played all seven weeks, and went 0-7. 12 of the 14 teams had him, so he didn't do much to separate the standings. But still nice to see him come up big for us all during this contest!

ptmcmahon
10-31-2017, 09:15 AM
And he was a B player at that!

ptmcmahon
11-01-2017, 06:21 AM
And now Haase takes out Alex Zverev. Best last trade ever.

And now Haase takes out Alex Zverev. Best last trade ever.

When you are down in the standings you have to take chances. This one just didn't work out for you. But hey, I have A Zverev on my team, so your win is my loss.

ptmcmahon
11-01-2017, 11:15 AM
This was more of a case of I had an extra move and a full team. I was expecting one of my other qualifiers to lose and had an extra trade....figured I'd dump my B guy with a bye (who lost today so the trade has officially cost me points.)

11-01-2017, 01:27 PM
Well...I've just been having a look and if my numbers are right, I officially have no chance of moving up to medal position. That said...mysterx is having a very nice week so far. Don't know if mysterx can overtake waylandboy-tw, but it might be interesting!

You are pretty much spot on with your analysis. I am having a very nice week, but waylandboy-tw is having almost as nice a week as me. I think wayland has clinched first, while I have managed to slide into second ahead of Omegadoom, You have moved into fifth, with a chance to catch Miles for 4th, depending on how the rest of the week plays out, but I don't think either you or Miles can move into the top 3..

My scoring is unofficial because my spreadsheet gives every contestant with players remaining the score for those players losing in the next round, which works great for contests where you are rooting for winners but overstates the scores in a loser tournament while the tournament is in progress. But we can safely lock in the points for the players who have already lost, which tells me that the scores I have right now will for the most part hold up.

WTHIGOW Verdasco? Of course I'm salty because last week he withdrew after the trade deadline so he screwed me out of points after I traded him onto my team. And now this week he is winning and just beat Thiem.

In every sport, there has to be a winner. We know that: even if they put 128 of us TATers in Wimbledon, one of us would have to win, and therefore would be Wimbledon champion.
But the way we are, we might one of these days ALL LOSE. We will all be defeated. Kirkus will erroneously wipe clean the server, all our medals will be gone, our profiles extinct.
We could do that. We are that bad :)

Benneteau closing in on a QF too just to enrage everyone who had him or just added him (4-5 people did this week.)

Benneteau closing in on a QF too just to enrage everyone who had him or just added him (4-5 people did this week.)

Well, considering that none of my D players were actually playing, Benneteau is actually yielding points, however I did expect him to lose in R-1. Also, seeing how my other option (Krajinovic) is still alive as well, I would've been doomed anyways.

texasniteowl
11-03-2017, 01:38 PM
 Benneteau just took the 1st set off Cilic in a tiebreak!

And won the 2nd 7-5.

At this point him losing tomorrow could only gain an additional 9 points so no reason not to cheer for him now!
