Congratulations! You've survived the devastation of the first week. Can you go all the way? As always, when you're red, you're dead.

Okay, we're down to the final 29. Or rather, the final 21, as we just lost the 8 Raonic pickers.

Breakdown:

Dominic Thiem - 17
Milos Raonic - 8
Novak Djokovic - 4

Congrats everyone! I was out with the dreaded no-pick Saturday, and I've been making picks to myself ... Monfils and Carreno Busta. I'd have made his thread if only for that unfortunate no-pick!

Good luck.

Hi. You don't have me in the updated thread because you have me picking cuevas on the day I picked Nishikori to beat Chung. I Never did pick Cuevas, not even in an earlier round. Thanks.

Ah, I see what happened. The handy tool we use to quickly read everyone's picks picked up your second post in the thread in which you quoted ponchi's post which mentioned Cuevas. Since it recognizes the latest post as the definitive post, it showed up as a "Cuevas" pick.

I see you've picked Nishikori and Djokovic, as you said, so no-harm, no-foul and I'll add you back in, but in general, everyone should be very careful about posting anything that's not a SP pick in the official picks thread. Gums up the works just a wee bit

Yes i'm sorry. I wanted to recognize his movie reference without fully realizing it could be problematic. The one weird part of it though just based on what youre saying is that the Nishikori post was actualy the second one. Anyway, thanks again.

Maybe I have it backwards and it recognizes the first pick. But, no worries!

It's all probably going to collapse somehow, but right now I'm in a great position with two reasonably likely routes to the medal: Djokovic-Murray-Wawrinka-Nadal or Djokovic-Wawrinka-Murray-Nadal... More options with the latter as I have Nishikori too just in case

ptmcmahon

As long as Djokovic gets by Thiem. I myself had to contest schizo that one. If that happens, wonder if we'll have more people save Stan or Murray.

Same here. I'm just not sure if Novak will pass Thiem... Afraid that's where it can collapse

Marin Cilic 13
Andy Murray 3
Kei Nishikori 3
Stan Wawrinka 1
Fernando Verdasco 1

*IF* we all pick from the Djokovic-Thiem match tomorrow, we will have 16 taking Djokovic, 4 taking Thiem. Everyone still has Rafa left so possible some may go that way too.

My unofficial count:

15 took Djokovic, 3 took Nadal, 2 took Thiem.

Two of the three who took Rafa have saved Thiem, one has saved Djokovic.

Correct!

Though there's little chance both men's matches will finish today.

Now I hope Novak or Murray lose, so I don't feel so bad for missing the pick. It's going to suck really bad if Novak-Murray-Stan-Rafa is going to held up and I miss a chance like that because of non-pick. So go Thiem and Kei!

Alright, in our final five, our breakdown is:

Murray - 2
Wawrinka - 2
Nishikori - 1

Technically, we could have a winner today, if Nishikori and Cilic win

I'm out here, but went contest schizo and had Thiem in predictions :)

Now I'm hoping Murray loses as well. Then I can say I didn't have a single day in the SP where I lost once... I also went out in the women's with two losses in same day :)

And with Nishikori taking out scineram, we're down to our final four:

cdavid99, duckylynt, improbabledream and Miles. All of them are former French Open suicide pool winners, except for duckylynt, who is going for his/her maiden SP win. Improbabledream is threatening to become the Nadal of the contest, having conquered both FOSPs last year and knocking on the door again.

Interestingly, none of the 4 players have the same 2 players available. Cdavid99 has Murray and Thiem, duckylynt has Wawrinka and Thiem, improbabledream has Nadal and Murray, and Miles has Wawrinka and Nadal. Everyone has a potential path to beating the draw.

Tomorrow is women's semifinal day, so no pick will be due in the men's pool.

I tried to convince you in one of the other threads.

And this better not be a jinx!

I remember this one year where Scotty was going far in the women's pool, and his next pick was Sveta, which at the time seemed like a safe pick. I woke that morning thinking I had a real bad feeling about Sveta, called him to convince him to change his pick, and he didn't. Of course Sveta proceeded to bite the dust. So much of the end of these pools is what your gut tells you.

I guess your gut tells you better than mine does as is evident by your SP medal haul...

As for jinx I'm now rooting for Wawrinka def Nadal. Sorry if that interferes with another medal for you :p

No need to tell that chances of that happening are not great...

Crap. :( Lesson learned: stick with your original plan! At the start of the QF, I planned to pick Thiem, then Murray, then Wawrinka, then Nadal. I had all those picks available too. Then I got chicken, and just played "safe" to advance at least one more day, and picked Nadal at the QF stage. That was the beginning of the end for me. Congrats to the final two!

I dont feel I played it safe, buy I probably was over influenced by having my own path to beating the draw in deciding the wawrinka murray thing. But seeing as he had 15-40 at (was it 4 all?) In the 4th I dont think the pick was all that stupid. Now I can fully cheer for Thiem, at least.
