This is where we come to celebrate our losers, complain about our winners,
and mostly have fun discussing the contest.

Been waiting for this to come back...my kind of contest...inspired my forum description for awhile (although wasn't it called perfect loser before?)

Like the inverted cost idea. Wouldve been too easy to pick Jankovic if she was the cheapest in a tier ;)

OK, I need every fantasy competition to be the Greatest Loser! Because at least this first week is starting off great! Of my 12 member team, 11 are active this week. Of those 11, 9 have already played. Of those 9, 8 played and lost their first match! Apparently, I am pretty good at picking losers!

My losers so far are: Keys (to Putintseva), Bencic (to Woz), Vandeweghe, Doi, Brengle, Lepchenko, Voegele, Sakkari.

I hope I do so well next week too!

Nice...I haven't checked since this morning, but I'd only lost two when I got to work this morning. Keys was supposed to beat Putinseva :) (EDIT...checked and I'n only down 3)

One of the interesting twists to this contest, the first couple days are the important ones...by the weekend the matches don't really matter.

lol. I am pretty down on Keys. She hasn't really learned how to think out on the court so far. You can only hang on to the handle of next big thing for so long before you get labeled as the next-big-thing-that-underachieved. Yes she is still young but I'm starting to doubt that she ever hits top 5.

I kind of like the fact that the early rounds are so important!

My official round 1 total was 6-4 (6 being bad!) with 2 byes. I think if Keys had been playing a third contest I would've definitely considered her for an A spot, especially since she didn't get a bye.

I think the one I am most miffed at is Jankovic...seems like months since she won a match, and she was pricey for this contest. But she is possibly playing every week, so maybe a deep run here will tire her out for the next month.

I think Keys is on the entry list for both Wuhan and Beijing? If so, that makes 3 events. The reason I went with her though is that Putintseva can be a tough match and well, Keys hasn't impressed me of late.

As for Jankovic, I considered her, but the Guangzhou field was such that JJ was the #2 seed I think? Which meant early matches against much lower ranked players, so I figured I would leave her alone. The only player I picked for Guangzhou was Lisicki actually, who hasn't done a thing for months and she won her first match anyway. :(

ptmcmahon

And now her second!

Meanwhile, Osaka and Puig take out A players...this was NOT the script!

texasniteowl
09-21-2016, 06:13 AM
ugh. yeah, Lisicki is messing with me.

At least Woz did beat CSN for me!

Now just waiting on Muguruza. Hope she keeps to her post RG script of losing.

Funny, for a normal contest Woz would have been an amazing value. Here she's useless...this week at least ;)

My consolation: describing this game (and fantasy tennis in general) to our Dutch houseguest. Who nonetheless declare my partner and I are two of the most "normal" people he's met on his cross-US motorcycle trip so far. Now I gotta wonder whom he encountered in Seattle and Chicago. :ponder:

How funny that in week 1's tourney with the strongest field...the final winds up two D players (Wozniacki and Osaka.)

texasniteowl
09-24-2016, 11:45 PM
Well, ranking aside, Woz is not truly a D player. But...combine US Open hangover with jetlag and end of season blues and weird things happen.

Tokyo was a D-tour

I know some of you must have scored 70 points with Belinda, personally, I thought she will bounce back after her injuries but she got more.

Good call!
Now, come out of the shadows and show yourselves.

I have Belinda...for now. May need to trade her for next week, but we'll see!

Are we getting bonus points for Bencic's mid-match withdrawal?

This contest is doing wonders for JJ. May even stave off retirement for her.

That's my entire D team reaching the second rounds... *smdh*

ptmcmahon
09-28-2016, 06:12 AM
Yeah, but a lot of the D players are the top players in Tashkent...so I'm not going to hard on them this week. Now if Lisicki, who I traded for in Wuhan, had made it I woulda been mad at her.

Wish qualies was finishing before deadline...already have full A, B and C teams so would love to add one of the D qualifiers :)

Is everyone else having a crappy week? Even if all my players immediately lost I wouldn't be able to crack 400 this week, despite using 3 trades.

texasniteowl
10-12-2016, 11:24 PM
Let's just say that this week I have only 4 active players.

And next week for Moscow may be worse and I have only 1 trade left.

ptmcmahon
10-14-2016, 02:04 AM
Gavrilova better lose first round next week...took out Kerber today!

And a weird stat I noticed for me at least...so far i have 39 "scores" from players and I don't have a single 15 from anyone (semi loss at most tournaments.)

Ribbons
10-15-2016, 06:55 AM
I think everyone Moscow-bound on my team may be a betting favorite (to win) except for Ostapenko. LOL.

ptmcmahon
10-15-2016, 05:29 PM
Pre contest I'd say Ostapenko would be the favorite but JJ has saved her best tennis for us now...

I have two players playing each other so I guess I must have one non betting favorite (with another one of my players on a bye waiting for the winner.)

texasniteowl
10-16-2016, 08:42 AM
Well, my time in the top 3 is over. And Moscow is going to suck. I did have 4 players active plus 1 trade left. But then Puig withdrew. So even with a trade, I only have 4 players in. Not good.

ptmcmahon
10-17-2016, 09:28 AM
Did they really only play one match in Moscow today? That's the nonsense they usually pull on Sundays to mess with us!

ptmcmahon
10-20-2016, 12:37 PM
What a wasted trade Gavrilova was...she had reached no semifinals all year at any tournaments...but since adding her she has reached SFs back to back.
