I'm not counting on a deep run from Nadal myself...so this might be a good time to use him actually if you are thinking the same...could be the last time I'd feel confident using him.

If I were still the pool, I would have been so so SO tempted to take Troicki today. And that kind of thinking is probably part of why I'm no longer in the pool. :hyst:

I'm not counting on a deep run from Nadal myself...so this might be a good time to use him actually if you are thinking the same...could be the last time I'd feel confident using him.

I don't know... Nadal is a master at making everyone think he is not in good shape, not fit or not confident. But usually when he does say that, he at least reaches the final. I wouldn't be super suprised if he ended up winning the whole thing!

I am sure there are some TaTers who don't look at what everyone else picked. I deliberately don't look. I make my choice after analyzing the matches. So there's at least one person who didn't jump on that bandwagon before it 'retired'. (Ugh! What a way to go).

I make my pick without looking at anyone else's, but I'm always comforted when I go back afterwards and see the player I picked as a selection on the first page by someone else.

I'm a contrarian normally, but I've learned over the years that when I go out on a limb in this contest, the branch usually breaks.

It's rare. Back in the day, when ctrl+f couldn't count over 100, I remember having to physically count once or twice. I know Pospisil took out over 100 in the 2013 US Open.

I'm more surprised by how many went with Isner than I am how many picked Ferrer. Very hard for me to ever trust Isner going into a second week of a major, and Ferrer at least has a good head to head with Simon. Isner's is good against Muller, but those are wins in tie breaks, so a dicier head to head.

Staying away from Janowicz-Lopez, or just not picking Janowicz at all is seeming like a good idea at the moment.

Well, you were right, but I don't know. I looked at Lopez, who is a streaky player who tends to go through extended funks after good periods, and saw a guy who has been pathetic in all three of his matches this year. Lost 6-4-6-4 to Bedene in first round of Chennai. Had to save four match points against a hack, Kudla, in the first round here, and then got tooled in straight sets by Mannarino in the 2nd round. … Except that Mannarino cramped up while leading 6-4, 6-4, 4-0 and had to retire during the fourth set.

I watched pretty much all of Janowicz' match against Monfils, and although it went five sets, he was the superior player from start to finish and could have won in straights.

As for tonight's match, Lopez was the better player, but he also got unbelievably lucky, going for aces on second serves and getting them, getting two huge net cords at important times and relying on some really bad Janowicz misses on set point in the first set tiebreaker and break point at 5-5 in the second set. It was actually very similar to the match that eliminated me in Wimbledon, only that time I took Lopez over Wawrinka and watched him choke an incredibly easy volley that would have won either the first or second set tiebreak before going out in three.

Should have taken Nishikori, but I really thought Janowicz was going to win tonight, even after he lost the first set. Lopez played a lot better than I expected.

Pospisil was worth a shot, since it would have left me in good shape for Day 8. I really thought he'd give Garcia-Lopez a tougher match. I had no confidence in Isner beating Muller, since his 3-0 lifetime record over him was based mainly on winning tiebreakers. My other option was to play it safe and pick Raonic, which in retrospect I should have done. Good luck to the remaining players in the field!
