Bold, tennisdude

Since TennisDude DIDN'T pick her, I encourage EVERYONE to pick Shuai Peng for their team....if he had chosen her, I'd be telling everyone to avoid her like the plague.

Shuai and Tennis Dude have a very special relationship, M8....Shuai's greatest joy in life is making Dude as miserable as possible. Sort of like the relationship I have with Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo.

Its so much fun knowing that a professional has devoted their career to making your life miserable.

You know, it's neither here nor there, but I actually saw Shuai play Martina at the USO and even though it went 3 sets, I didn't see anything really special. So, I wouldn't be banking on her anytime.

And I don't think she will do anything remarkable...

Well, she's ranked number 12 and had a horrific start to the year, so as long as she wins a handful of matches in the first three months she should make the top ten. I think she should make the round of 16 at the Australian, and have a decent shot at making the quarters. That's good enough for me in the B category.

Well, since so many of us picked them, how well Serena and Marat do is basically irrelevant now. If everyone picks the same player, we all get the same points whether they win or lose. So it looks like it will come down to the B and C players and how well they do.

And I don't think she will do anything remarkable...

If Jankovic gets her head in check, and realizes its time to dump the Diva act, she'll be Top 8 by the time clay court season begins.

She won the Australian as a junior. She showed last summer that she can play with almost anyone. And right now, I think her down the line backhand is one of the most beautiful, and most lethal, shots in the womans game.

She's got to stop playing so much...she's still playing far too many tournaments, and generally plays doubles on top of singles. She tends to pick up nagging little injuries that take their toll over the course of week in, week out tennis.

Me, I think she's going to make the necessary adjustments. She tasted the big stage, and I think she wants to spend a lot more time there.

I'd be very pleased to see both of them (Ana and Berdych) have great success this season.

Read something the other day though that makes me question if it might be one more year for Ana....she is still growing! Allready over 6 feet, and the lovely one is still getting taller.

That proved to be an issue for Davenport, Sharapova, Safina and others. They can't settle in to finding their best form while their bodies are still growing. Once it stops, you tend to see how good they can really be. Safina, in particular, finally seems to have stopped this past year. She just always had a problem wih her footwork, and stumbling over her own body as she learned to adjust to her height. And Davenport took til her 20s to win anything of note, and her body was a big issue for her as a teen.

Your time and anybody's time ;) I know America has a timediff of 15 to 22 hours if you count Hawaii, so that's where not including the 31st comes into play. Just the illness or injured substitutions, right? ;) Tournaments who have places to fill in the draw use lucky losers and alternates. We're allowing you to fill that gap with another player. Still, here's hoping everybody stays healthy :)

Me: Great .. so check out the teams and rules and let me know your picks!
Random: Rules? ... There are rules?

[anyway, you get the idea .. this went on for a while, after which RandomSkan worked out the following team, completely randomly, of course. What this means is that if your team does not earn as many points as RSkan's, you have been beaten by a random number generator].

RandomSkan's AMITS Entry

The A Team [Pick of the Crop]

Gonzalez
Federer
Dementieva
Sharapova

The B Team [Always a Bridesmaid]

Ferrero
Chakvetadze

The C Team [Middle of the Pack]

Volandri
Stosur

The D Team [Mr. & Mrs. "D"]

Garcia-Lopez
Loit

The E Team [The Also-Rans]

Dancevic
Razzano

I must say, I was quite impressed that RandomSkan put forward the Canadian Dancevic, whereas I didn't have the guts to. Let's hope it's a breakaway year for the "dancer".

Mr. J and mysterx! Welcome to the mix! Two more Del Potro's I see ;)

Yeah, Category E is a total crapshoot that I typically don't expect much out of. I've heard a lot of good things about Del Potro, so why not roll the dice on a player with big potential. Odds are he is probably a year or two away, but you never know.

And wouldn't you know - here I am pondering the intricacies of the AMITS Contest, when out of the blue, I get a call from RandomSkan.

Me: Hey guy, what's up?
Random: How the heck should I know?
Me: I mean, how have you been?
Random: So-so
Me: Um ... is there something I can help you with?
Random: Maybe, maybe not!
Me: Hmm.. say, guess what?
Random: We now only have 8 planets?
Me: Right. And besides that, TAT is running another contest. Do you want to enter?
Random: Here - let me flip a coin [pauses] uh .. OK!

PeterSkan, I'm a little worried for your mental health. All these conversations with machines may produce a negative effect, you know.

For those who have yet to enter a team into TAT's first ever A Month in the Sun fantasy tennis competition as well as those who still feel the need to switch a player: time is running out!!!! You have today and tomorrow left to do your thing! ;D

Oh, this is a hateful process. I want to just root on my favorites- but, I also want to WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN- not to mention beat you all. [smiley=engel017.gif]

Still, it's funny- even though I was one of the winners of the Wimbledon men's suicide pool- I was at that point also rooting against myself, because I wanted Baghdatis to beat Nadal. Oh, winning can be bitter.

I do have want some clarification here, which will have a big effect on if I make changes to my groupings before tomorrow is over.....Can you only replace ONE player from your groupings due to injury? Or, can you replace ANY and ALL players on your list who get injured? For Ex., if you've picked Nadal, Petrova, Jankovic and Golovin, who all break their legs due to a booze-fest car accident- can you replace them all, or you can only replace one for that month?

Specifically- ya all KNOW I want to put Venus in- but, odds are, she ain't playin' in January- so, I'd take the chance if I can make multiple injury changes. But, if I only get one possible substitution- then, the heck with Venus, nelslus must say.

So, I appreciate any clarification- but, for now, the nelslus choices are:

A- Rog, Roddick, Maria, and justine (I may make MYSELF eat my own tongue for this choice- but, again, I am competitive.....)

B- Hewitt, Safina

C- Marat, Zheng (I WANT VENUS HERE..... :'()

D- Ginepri, Mirza

E- Serena, Lopez

Well, nothing's stopping you from putting her in there.
If you only want to win, then leave her out.
But if you want to use her, if she ends up not playing in january, you can replace her with another player if she withdraws from Melbourne. That's what i'm doing. Unless, of course, you want to save the injury thing. Koffie should clarify whether or not we can replace multiple players or not. If we can, i suggest for you to put Venus in. You can always replace her if she withdraws due to her wrist.

I've been preparing for a cruise I'm going on tomorrow, so I haven't had much time to strategize. So I just hope my team can cruise on through their draws:

Cat A--Federer, Davydenko, Henin, Hingis
Cat B--Baghdatis, Jankovic
Cat C--Moya, Kirilenko, Penetta (for romance's sake)
Cat D--Santoro, Becker
Cat E--Birnerova, Rodionova

Let's call them "the Cruisers".
