Week one of THRNY is done and we have some pretty clear leaders, thanks to one Chilean player who was absolutely..."on Falla." Heh heh. Many seeds went out early and Karlovic who's typically a favorite pick in this Fantasy Contest, wasn't available because of a ranking outside the top 100. Of course he goes on to win the whole thing. What can you do? Tied for the lead after the first week with 99 points are last year's silver medalist patrick and the leader after the first week last year, tenedab. Not far behind them, tied for third place at 94 points are dryrunguy and luvs10s. The field in Atlanta next week is much more impressive, so look for the scores next week to be considerably higher. Those four can enjoy their lead for the moment. The rest of the field is coming for them!

C'mon, Munchin, I know you are probably punch drunk from your personal victories, but Falla is Colombian. He was the home town boy...
(as for the rest of your post: yep, we are coming after the leaders. Me, with a wiffle bat :( )

Bah! Facepalm. I was writing this in a hurry and not thinking clearly. I knew he was Colombian and I even looked on the ATP website to verify and my fingers typed something...a little different.

I'm not even gonna bother editing the original post. That's kinda funny.

Whoa, whoa, let's keep 'em above the belt! And what exactly does he know about winning tournaments?

Here are your week 2 scores subtitled "last week's winners sure showed the rest of us." The final featured the big serving duo of Canadian John Isner and South American Kevin Anderson ;). Since almost every player in our game has both of these guys on their team, the game was decided in the earlier rounds. Riding the performances of Hewitt, Istomin and Dodig, our week 2 winner is once again tenedab with 188 points. Just behind is the other co-leader from last week, patrick, with 183 points. And then tied for 3rd and 4th place are Drop-shot and Togtdyalttai with 179 points each.

So in the 2nd week, tenedab has stretched into a solo lead with 287 points. With 282 points, patrick is just behind. And tied for 3rd place AGAIN are dryrunguy and luvs10s. Come on guys, let the rest of us play! :p We head into Washington - a tournament with a bigger and deeper field. Some of those Tier A players might actually come into play finally. Stay tuned!

Washington was an interesting tournament this year. Basically almost everyone who did well at the tournament was also on most players' THRNY teams, so the margins near top-scoring participants are pretty slim. Riding the quality performances of Del Potro, Haas, and Isner and continuing their astonishing run of consistency at the top, the weekly co-winners are dryrunguy and luvs10s with 183 points respectively. Fiercehart is right behind them with 182 points.

Leapfrogging into the overall first place lead is patrick with 455 points. And tied...AGAIN...for the THIRD week in a ROW are dryrunguy and luvs10s at 2nd place with 443 points apiece. At least we have three teams in the top three, for a change, instead of four. Perhaps the first Masters event will cause a bit of a shakeup, with more points available and bigger, deeper draws. Perhaps. ;)

EDIT: two minor adjustments were made to lukeorion's and Jason11E's scores due to a miscalculation. :o

One way or another, either I'll finally shake luvs, or she'll shake me. She kept Del Potro. I kept Haas. Until now, we've only had one player different on our teams.

Odd week, wasn't it? Literally every team but one did better in Washington last week than in this Masters level event. It's hard to remember a week where everyone's trades were so counter-productive. The slackers we traded out did well and the superstars we traded in underachieved. Milos Raonic had the potential to be a game changer, except every single person who had him on their team traded him out for a disappointment. This was also a week where only one person had the winner of a Masters tournament on their team, and that person didn't even win the week. Rising to the top of this mess is skatingfan with 149 points, riding a the achievements of Pospisil and Davydenko. Right behind is our Nadal-owner, waylandboy-tw with 146 points. Coming in third is opoloskoffie with 112 points.

We do have a bit of a shake-up at the top, though. waylandboy-tw's performance catapults him to the top spot at 548 points. tenedab has returned to the top three in 2nd place at 540 points. And luvs10s breaks free from the seemingly inextricable bearhug with dryrunguy for sole ownership of third place at 537 points. The top six are all extremely close to each other and Cincinatti will have a lot of scenarios that can shake things up a bit. Or Raonic could win and screw us all.

Just to tease me for not adding Nadal (100 points) - I'm exactly 100 points out of first :)

Wow, what a week. I was really hoping that at this point I would have put myself back in the top 10 after a couple of difficult weeks and I have but I didn't expect to close the gap on leaders. Oh well, won't last - too many of my team this week are all in the same portion of the draw.

The final Masters level event of the contest is done and I think we've all learned a very important lesson about underestimating 12-time grand slam champions. None of us had Nadal this week and almost every team had Isner, so the winners were once again determined by players who didn't make the final. The winner of the week, one of only two people on the Berdych Bandwagon, is oploskoffie, running away with it with 217 points. In 2nd place is Fiercehart with 192 points, sneaking ahead of the competition with help from Grigor Dimitrov. In third place, at 188 points is consistent top-performer this contest - skatingfan.

Going into the final week, there are plenty of players who are mathematically in contention for a top-three finish. Winston-Salem seems to have a glut of unpredictable players and anything can happen. Going into the final week, our leader is skatingfan (who is probably desparately hoping for a Sijsling title run) at 718 points. tenedab is just behind at 717 points. Still hanging in the top three after all this time is luvs10s at 708 points. Hope those final trades served you well. May the odds ever be in your favor.

Who needs Masters Level events? We've got Winston-Salem! The final results are in for our THRNY Fantast contest and we've got ourselves some winners. As we all expected, Jurgen Melzer struck gold in Winston-Salem and...oh, the winner wasn't on anyone's team? Again!?! Well, riding the performance of Gael Monfils, our weekly winner is Miles with 89 points, followed closely behind by lukeorion with 88. In third, we've got Omegadoom with 76 points.

Winston-Salem also determined our winners. The scores have been incredibly tight and probably a dozen people went into the week with a chance to take gold. The gold and silver medalists had not been in any overall top threes in the first five weeks, but they charged in when it mattered the most. Winning the gold is contest veteran Miles with 741 points. Just barely behind him is oploskoffie with 739 points and a silver medal. And the pinnacle of consistency, tenedab, who spent 5 of 6 weeks in the overall top three takes a hard-earned bronze medal with 735 points.

Thanks to all the players! I truly enjoy running this contest each year. Please thank the contest staff as well, and special thanks to AttackTheNet, who has volunteered his services which have been tremendously appreciated. Enjoy your US Open!

Whay?!?!

What a weird surprise. I was so sure I was out of the running that I almost didn't even bother to make a final trade last week -- was too busy playing with the nephews. Most of my trades sucked it up big time -- Milos for DC, Nole and Murray for Montreal and Cincy. I was going to trade in Nadal for Cincy but hesitated. Going into Winston-Salem, the only smart thing I did was not get on the Bird Brain bandwagon -- and that was out of necessity since most people were logically going to trade him in.

How strange to ride those mental midgets, Hot Sauce and Monfils, to victory. Both tend to be horrifyingly useless almost 100% of the time.

So looking back, it seems I went from 11th to 18th to 16th to 12th to 13th to first place!

Just call me Marion and I will eminently retire! :cheesy:

Congrats to Opo and tenedab as well! Sorry ATN -- we've all been in fourth place purgatory and it sucks.

Thanks to munchin and ATN for running the contest! Much appreciated!

Yeah, it's nice to have the first medal, especially since it was so close. Thx to all participants.

Thanks munchin and everyone else running it! Strange is the exact word I'd use to describe how the contest went too!

Congratulations Miles (two more points; I love it!:cheesy:) and tenedab! And many thanks to ATN and munchin, of course :)

Me? I'm just bouncing around the room at the moment. After the first three tournaments and Andy's early loss in Montreal, I never thought I'd be anywhere near the top of the scoreboard! Yay! :cheesy:

*And I can now say "Well done Dan Evans!" without most of the pain that comes with a first day SP-loss... :')
