Break out the apple pie and the hot dogs (and, this year, the 100% Colombian Coffee). You are cordially invited to participate in the 2013 TAT Fantasy Tennis Contest
"The Hard Road to New York" (THRNY)

It will encompass six (6) ATP tournaments leading up to, but NOT including, The U.S. Open.

Teams

Your team must consist of 12 ATP players from the top 100 men on the ATP Tour. You will have 150 credits to spend on your 12-man team. Your initial team may not be the same as a team that has already been posted, or it will be disqualified. We'll do our best to help monitor this. However, the responsibility of adhering to the requirements of this rule falls solely in the hands of the contest participant.

The current top 100 players on the ATP tour are divided into 4 categories. Each player is priced according to his ranking. You must purchase three (3) players from each category.

Click here (http://www.talkabouttennis.com/forum/threads/22027-THRNY-2013-Post-Your-Team-Here)to post your team.

Categories and Player Pricing:

CATEGORY A: Players 1-15. Price 16-30 credits each.
CATEGORY B: Players 16-40. Price 9-15 credits each.
CATEGORY C: Players 41-70. Price 6-8 credits each.
CATEGORY D: Players 71-100. Price 5 credits each.

To view the players and their prices, click here (http://www.talkabouttennis.com/forum/threads/22025-THRNY-2013-Players-and-Prices).

When complete, a team could look something like this:
Cat-A: Murray(29), Tsonga(23), Nadal(27)
Cat-B: Almagro(15), Melzer(9), Dodig(9)
Cat-C: Brands(7), Haase(7), Fish(7)
Cat-D: Sock(5), Blake(5), Ram(5)
Total: 148

Each player on your team will be awarded points depending on how deep he goes in each tournament. The team you choose is supposed to last you the entire contest, and you only get FOUR (4) trades!

Tournaments:

Bogota (http://claroopencolombia.com/)
Atlanta (http://www.bbtatlantaopen.com/)
Washington (http://www.leggmasontennisclassic.com/)
Montreal (http://www.rogerscup.com/men/english/home.php)
Cincinnati (http://www.cincytennis.com/1/en/home/default.asp)
Winston-Salem (http://www.winstonsalemopen.com/)

Scoring:

Click here (http://www.talkabouttennis.com/forum/threads/22024-THRNY-2013-Tournaments-and-Points)to view how tournament points are distributed.

Trades:

If you feel that any player on your team is dead weight (performing poorly), injured, or you just don't want them on your team anymore, you are allowed to trade him for someone else whom you feel is more adequate to fulfill your team's job (help you win, of course. )

You are allowed up to FOUR (4) trades during the six-tournament contest.

Trades should be made during the week BEFORE the tournament starts.

If your trades are not submitted by the tournament's trade deadline, that trade will not go into effect until the following week.

To make a trade, please click here (http://www.talkabouttennis.com/forum/threads/22028-THRNY-2013-Trades)to post your team with the new player included.

Remember: YOU MUST ALWAYS HAVE THREE (3) PLAYERS PER CATEGORY ON YOUR TEAM, AND YOU CAN NEVER HAVE SPENT MORE THAN 150 CREDITS.

The responsibility of finding out who will be playing in which events rests solely on your shoulders. The team you have at the start of each tournament is the team you're playing with.

Should your team fall in the nether regions of a TAT lake, so to speak, or if you just want to complain or have a drink to drown your sorrows, feel free to do so in the THRNY Lounge (http://www.talkabouttennis.com/forum/threads/22029-THRNY-2013-Lounge)

If you have any questions regarding anything in the contest, please click here (http://www.talkabouttennis.com/forum/threads/22026-THRNY-2013-Ask-Questions-Here)

Your team must be posted before the scheduled start of main draw play in Bogota, which begins Monday, July 15, 2013.

Sorry to be a jerk but Bogota will be played on clay. Maybe we should reconsider including it (I know, I am always complaining, sorry).

Really? The ATP website says hardcourt: http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Tournaments/Bogota.aspx?__utma=1.1718330402.1311186423.1373387 051.1373391111.294&__utmb=1.2.9.1373391111&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1371765517.290.20.utmcsr=google|utmccn=%2 8organic%29|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=%28not%20provide d%29&__utmv=-&__utmk=216594710

You are not a jerk. :p

It looks like it's hard: http://claroopencolombia.com/?module=galeria&i=23

The player list is kind of hilarious at this point, too. Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock might both be seeded. This is going to be an interesting tournament for THRNY. Nobody's going to want any of these people on their team after this week except Kevin Anderson. Surely some top 20 player is going to want to take a wildcard into this thing and clean up...

ponchi, my ATP World Tour calendar says "H" for hard courts, and the ATP tournament website says hard as well: http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Tournaments/Bogota.aspx.

Ok. I am not in Bogota at the moment, but since it will be played at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento (Center for High Performance) and I have played there, I thought it would be clay (they only had clay courts there in the past).
Probably they laid down a couple of hard courts. So my bad.
BTW: At 2600 Mts of elevation, on a hard court, those balls are going to be flying fast. The players with flat strokes will have an edge. I played there once, and topspin is basically useless.

Nice insight, ponchi. Thanks for sharing. I wish Jeff Sackmann over at Tennis Abstract would classify players according to preference for topspin vs. flat balls. Doesn't he understand we need this info to pick players for a hard court tournament in Bogota so we can win our fantasy contest? :D
