Congratulations to our 38 players (down from an initial 331) who have survived one of the bloodiest openings of an SP and have lasted to the Third Round. 90% of our players have been eliminated after only 4 days of play. Those listed here have certainly earned a spot in this Updated Picks and Results thread.

Best of luck as you continue on in hopes of beating the draw!

Well the Cornet and Bouchard pickers sadly are done :(

Well it was good while it lasted, I really thought Bouchard would do it, but oh well, on to the US Open pool

There is not a single conflicting pick and no one has advanced already so there is still a chance of Cornet pickers getting a medal. A small chance, but not zero.

At least our four Bartoli pickers live on til Day 6. - everyone else is either eliminated, or in trouble.

 So, it could possibly be just the Bartolis left after this round? (Yawn, she's ALWAYS leading people to victory ... ;))

But I think (and hope) not -- methinks Stephens' 2nd set bagel was just for dramatique sake, and she'll rock it to the R16 tomorrow. OTOH, I'm hoping that Puig goes down so I can say I'm "Top 10"! (Yeh, I that'd be a huge cluster of a tie.)

I just did this for fun and don't see that anyone has posted it. I looked to see who could still beat the draw:
17 started Tuesday:
3 picked players who lost.
5 of the others have only 1 pick left.
2 of the other have 2 picks, but those 2 play each other in the semis.
That leaves 7 who can potentially beat the draw:
5 have Radwanska and Flipkens left.....Luvs10s, mmm8, Oploskoffie, RickyM63, SoulCandy93.
1 has Radwanska and Bartoli.......Philly10.
1 has Flipkens and Lisicki......Mr_Socko

It will be fun to see how all of you do. Good luck......Glenn

I am absolutely floored that so many have scenarios in which they can still beat the draw. And at this point, given the cast of characters, all scenarios are within the realm of genuine possibility.

suliso
07-02-2013, 01:13 PM
That's true, but there are also several very realistic scenarios under which no one will beat a draw. Lisicki vs Bartoli final, for example.

I also wonder if all who have Flipkens and Radwanska or Flipkens and Lisicki will use Kirsten in SF. Philly10 is in the best situation - if he chooses Bartoli and she wins the medal is his (alone if the opponent is Radwanska, shared if Lisicki.

I'd love to say this was all part of my master plan. But no one would believe that.

About half way through the day I realized I was the only one with Bartoli left and started hoping for the Flipkens upset.

I just had a glance at some British bookmakers. Lisicki and and Bartoli are favourites to win today, and actually Flipkens is given a slighgtly better chance to beat Bartoli than Radwanska to beat Lisicki (both around 40% chance).
Not that I would encourage anyone to gamble, especially this Wimbledon!

GlennHarman
07-04-2013, 03:00 AM
Now that all of the remaining players have made their semi-final picks, these are the situations:

If Flipkens wins her match, we have the largest number of chances of someone beating the draw. Mr_socko then beats the draw if Lisicki wins the final. Five would beat the draw if Radwanska wins the final (rickyM63, oploskoffie, mmmm8, Soulcandy93, and luvs10s).

If Bartoli wins her match, Philly10 beats the draw if Radwanska wins the final.

No one can beat the draw if either Bartoli or Flipkens wins the tournament.

No one can beat the draw if Bartoli and Lisicki both win their semi-finals.

I believe the SP will be won by one of those mentioned above. No matter who wins the Bartoli/Flipkens match, there will be at least one player in the position to make a pick for the finals. For instance, if Bartoli wins her semi, we have a winner (Philly10).
SP players not mentioned above have made their last pick.

2. Sabine "German #1?" Lisicki, with 4.

3. Agnieszka "Blondie" Radwanska, with1.

(Tie) 3. Marion "here I am again" Bartoli, with 1. .

Now that Bartoli has won the first semi, if Lisicki wins her match, won't the Lisicki pickers and the Bartoli picker win medals because no one has a pick left for the final?

Irena 2, That is of course what happened, and I think you are exactly right. Those are the people who made it through the semis, but then had no pick left for the finals. I was wrong above when I suggested that no one had a chance to "win" other than those with a likely pick for the finals. I forgot to analyze (for SP's sake), how everyone would stand with this outcome. While I mentioned that no one could beat the draw with this outcome, I forgot that we would then have others coming into play since another group would make it through and then have no pick. The moderators need to confirm this, but I really think you are right. GH
