Week One is complete, everyone, and as expected it's generally an incredibly close contest. The people who came out on top were able to take advantage of the surprising successes of journeymen Go Soeda and Giles Muller. Our big winner of the week by far is tenedab, with 192 points, who scored with every single member of his team, save one. Jeff in TX came in second with 175 points, the other Muller picker. In third, with 155 points, is contest stalwart Ribbons, who had the foresight to pick surprise semifinalist Soeda.

A laughably depleted field in Los Angeles next week will likely bring some of those Category C and D players into play. Get those trades in before the deadline.

It's a bit harder to sort the results by score. I may be the only one, but I always liked viewing them that way. Here's a screen shot of the scores in descending order (let me know if it doesn't work. There may be issues with other people viewing it besides me for complex, boring reasons...):

Despite the humorously wide-open field in Los Angeles, scores in the 2nd week of the contest remained respectable. Most of us had Sam Querrey and none of us had Berankis, so the quarterfinalists and semifinalists made all the difference. Our big weekly winner is patrick with a quite impressive 147 points, and 5 of 8 quarterfinalists. Skatingfan takes the #2 spot with 139 points and earning the bronze, as it were, is TennisAnyone74 with 132 points.

Patrick's big win this week catapults him into a sliver-thin overall lead after 2 weeks with 297 points. Nipping at patrick's heels is last week's leader tenedab, with 296 points and rounding out the top three is Jeff in TX with 276 points. There's still time for anyone to catch up. A tournament winner in Washington nets you 70 points and 18 teams are within that margin of the lead. Anyone's ballgame! Stay tuned.

The Olympics left the field noticeably depleted in Washington, but there were still plenty of high scorers. Not only did 7 players top 200 points this week, 5 players all tied for the top score - something I've never seen before. So congrats to our weekly winners: TennisAnyone74, Fiercehart, Omegadoom, e11even and orangeboy19 - all with 206 points.

These results have produced a bit of a shakeup at the top. TennisAnyone74 takes over the lead with 475 points. Not far behind is last week's leader, patrick, with 465 points. Even closer behind him is Fiercehart with 457. We have finally reached the point of our contest where Masters tournaments will come into play. There are huge points attached to these next two weeks, so now is the time for those behind to catch up in a hurry or those on top to leap ahead even further. Stay tuned.

The Olympics continued to wreak a bit of havoc on the summer hardcourt swing as there were plenty of notable absences and withdrawls in Canada this week, leading to a very surprising finalist this week in Richard Gasquet. We all know to think twice before using him in a suicide pool, but he was a valuable player to have on your team this week...but then again only one of us would know anything about that. By virtue of being the only player with Gasquet (as well as Novak), our weekly winner is TennisBen21 with 245 points, obviously the highest one week total so far in the contest. Not far behind is Omegadoom with 241 points, capitalizing on his team's several quarterfinalists and extremely close behind is RadCat with 239 points.

Omegadoom's performance catapults him from out of the top three all the way to the lead with 696 points. Holding fast in 2nd and 3rd place are patrick and Fiercehart with 688 and 663 points, respectively. The fun isn't over yet, however, as another big Masters level event is already underway. This week has shown us that surprise runs can radically alter the landscape of the standings. It's still pretty up in the air. Heck, I could even break into the top three...um, if Marinko Matosevic beats Kei Nishikori in the final.

Things returned to form this past week in Cincinnati, as the top two players in the world made the finals. waylandboy-tw benefited the most, having both players on his team in addition to the semifinalist Juan Martin Del Potro, combining for a total of 260 points this week. Very close behind was Charlie02123 with 255 points, with the help of two quarterfinalists. Skatingfan rounds out the top 3 with a big 238 points.

Going into the final tournament of the contest in Winston-Salem, Omegadoom maintains his overall lead at 921 points, leaving him in great position for a medal, as he was able to hold back two trades for this last week. patrick maintains a tenuous grasp on 2nd place with 899 points. Nipping at his heels is waylandboy-tw, taking advantage of a great weekly win, with a total of 892 points.

Well it all comes down to this final tournament.. Several players outside the top 3 have legitimate shots at a medal. A surprisingly high number of top players are in Winston-Salem, so hopefully you've all traded wisely. Good luck, all!

And after 6 weeks of grueling action, we have some pretty clear-cut winners. First lets start with the Winston-Salem results. Capping off a 4th straight week of results near the top of the weekly standings, our weekly winner is Togtdyalttai with 191 points. Unsurprisingly, not far behind him is perennial top performer Omegadoomwith 184 points. And in third is dryrunguy with 178 points. All of them had Berdych, Isner, Tsonga ANNNND Querrey on their team. Not too shabby.

And now the overall winners. There's a bit of deja vu from the last paragraph. Riding his phenomenal weekly win, breaking into bronze medal position is Togtdyalttai with 1046 total points. What a comeback! patrick holds onto silver medal position with 1059 points. And, coming as a surprise to no one, Omegadoom, who dominated us all from the halfway point on through to the end, takes home the gold with a positively disgusting 1105 points!!!

Thanks to all our players. This is my 4th time being involved in running this contest and you guys make it a pleasure to do it every year. Also please give special thanks to Drop-shot and dave g for all of the work they did making this happen behind the scenes! We'll see you back here in a year and Happy U.S. Open!!!
