Since the contest covers tournaments all around the world, where better to wait between flights to our next destination than the VIP Lounge.

While here feel free to talk about your 12-woman team... Drink off a shameful selection... Talk trash about your team (but not TOO much )... Interact with other contest participants... and etc....

And remember, the juke box from hell will travel to each tournament site, so don't forget to use it!

Have fun!

Patrick,
Thanks. I already knew that. Mostly I was laughing at myself for remembering that the team was due by Monday, but not paying close enough attention to remember which Monday.
So far, I don't see any reason to change my team.

YIKES! I also felt like Sharapova might withdraw. She pulled out last year with a virus, and was subbed out of Fed Cup with a cold. I wondered if maybe Paris is a tournament she doesn't like but has to sign up for and axe later.

I wonder if I'll regret not picking Scheepers.

I thought even if Sharapova played, Lisicki might win the rematch. In fact, I filled out the draws for help and put Lisicki into the final.

However, Lisicki drew Safarova first round, who's made the final here TWICE.

In the end, I picked neither of them and went with Na Li, which could easily backfire.

Welcome all to the 2012 edition of Around the World. Each week we'll be posting scores as the weekly tournaments reach the QFs to allow everyone to see where they stand so they can keep track going into the weekend and be able to better strategize trades.

Defending bronze medalist Dryrunguy is our early leader at the first checkpoint as he is one of two along with lukeorion who still have 6 players still left. Of course this is all very early and there is a lot of tennis left to be played, but both appear likely to be at or near the top of the leaderboard at the end of week 1. Patrick will be posting scores after Paris and Pattaya have been decided.

Good luck and enjoy the tennis!

Dryrunguy- 171 (Sharapova, Bartoli, Zvonareva, Hantuchova, Kirilenko, Cirstea)

Given the results in Bogota, and to some extent in Doha, missing out on making trades this past weekend won't be TOO costly. On the other hand, I was already at the back of the list, and people were adding Vika and Aggie, so I expect to be getting lapped after this week's results are all in.

Below is the mid-week score update. Dryrunguy and Lukeorion continue to set the pace but Omegadoom and Patrick have moved into a tie for third. With the disaster in Bogota it appears this week will hinge on who ends up going further between Vika and ARad. Special mention to Daveg who is the only person who has 3 players left and is guaranteed the honors for high score this week.

I definitely need to consider who to jinx with my final trade, seeing how the first three never even got a sniff at the second round.

So glad I traded for Petrova. At least she lost early enough to not screw me in predictions.

I got briefly excited when I saw I have 4 quarterfinalists in Dubai.

Of course they are all playing each other.

We’re at the QF of Monterrey and the SF of Memphis and Dubai. Lukeorion has jumped into the lead with Dryrunguy and Daveg in 2nd and 3rd. E11even and Togtdyalttai have been the top scorers this week and have moved into contention as we turn for home next week. Good luck and enjoy the tennis!

Radwanska & Jankovic will play Kuala Lumpur next week.

Say what? Did Kuala Lumpur give them a huge appearance fee for showing? Is Bartoli still in the draw?

Probably , Bartoli is still there too . They will have to increase the prize money to $500k .

Bartoli:
"I will try my best to do better this time in Kuala Lumpur. I don't think the hot weather will affect me, In fact, I've played some of my best tennis in humid conditions,"

Much appreciation to a substantial number of my players who did a giant disappearing act this week. And we wonder why discrimination against women is rampant?!?!?

Mathilde Johannson, a finalist at one of these tournaments last year, wins my LVP with an 0-3 record. Not that any of my other D women have a win for me yet. Looks like this could've been the year of the E women.

Well boo. I looked to see what would happen if all players not on my team lost immediately and my players did as well as possible. Under the most fantastical happenings, I still don't medal.

In protest, I'm leaving the country and forum for three months with only minimal check-ins. ;)

I obviously can't count. I thought Lukeorien was still in front of me.
Also, thought dryrunguy still has Begu left.

Just because I am following Lukeorien's score and dryrunguy's team list, doesn't mean that I am obsessing over this. ;)
