We start Day 1 at SW19 with 384 players in our 7th Annual Mens Wimbledon game. Let's see how many can make it to the crowning of the Wimbledon Champion at the conclusion of the fortnight.

Remember to use this thread for tracking your previous picks - it will be updated by the end of each day. And once you're red, your dead, Fred.

Thanks, shojego - when I went back and checked, I saw that I had omitted the player immediately in front of you, and given you his/her pick. So I got both corrections made.

I got warned on another forum a couple of years ago never to pick Kohlschreiber for these things. I remain grateful to them...

GACritter is listed twice. I think she changed her pick from Nalbandian(because he is not playing today) to Hanescu. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't any confusion.
Thanks

353 still alive (though many are going to be waiting out both a Day 1 and a Day 2 pick come tomorrow).

We'll get a full update done (and will then update the P&R thread) when Oli finishes his match, that will conclude Day 1 matches. But we've lost two players with Day 1 picks so far - 1 Clement, 1 Cilic. Our carryover count is down to 351.

I do think the 50-100 range is stronger on the ATP side. It seems like the ATP is ahead in athleticism. You can tell they're all professional athletes. The WTA has a few more players that you would never suspect play a sport professionally.

The ATP is also a bit more of a toss up because the serves are all huge and the returns largely neglected. #300 taking #1 to a tiebreak is not as big of a deal. If every point started with a drop feed there probably wouldn't be as many upsets.

Now, those who picked Lopez, knowing full well his history....

....were obviously in the smarter half of pickers. He's gone past the 2nd round in 7 of 9 Wimbledons played and made the QF twice. And he had a 7-1 record (now 8-1) vs. Schuettler, losing to him on clay in 2004. And he's 0-7 vs. Roddick, his next opponent.

And now I've probably jinxed my next pick.

Starting Day 4 at 141, though 36 of that number await the outcome of the Delpo/Oli match.

Six no picks today (and two of them are Delpo's, so they could be out on Day 3 before they are out on Day 4.).

Today's bandwagons After yesterday, good luck is all I'll say):

1: Michael "Why isn't it Yo-dra?" Llodra, with 35
2: David "Full Figured Dave" Nalbandian, with 34
3: Mikhail "Mr. Consistent" Youzhny, with 19

Our remaining picks for Day 4:

Baghdatis - 4
Federer - 1
Ferrer - 5
Garcia Lopez - 3
F. Gonzalez - 5
Isner - 2

Melzer - 7

With Troicki, Garcia Lopez and Mayer early losers today, we are at 120. Add in two Isners, and we are at 118.

Never understand why people think Ferrer is ill-equipped for grass. Dude has one of the best return of serves ever, which means he's ahead of the game in one of the two most important shots at Wimbledon.

His problem is lack of belief on any surface. He could have beaten Sod in the fourth round here last year. He should have beaten Murray in the Aussie Open semis. But he didn't have the confidence to push through, which is probably what will happen to him in a crackerjack 4R vs. Tsonga.

Personally, Jazzy, I kid a lot about Spaniards and grass, because I am a huge fan of Spanish tennis, primarily from the Alex/Arantxa days. I never doubt Ferru, he is one of my favorite players, and I love watching him play. But I think Wimbledon is his weakest Slam, as he has been to the quarters or beyond at the other three.

Can't argue with that based on history, but as he gets older, he is becoming great on anything. I wasn't reacting to you but to the general perception that he is just a hard-working grinder (I guess that description fits in the department of the redundancy department). His lethal return of serve will give Tsonga serious problems Monday unless Tsonga is in top form.

David Ferrer is so massively talented that he would probably win a match on glue, given the chance. He won a title on grass a few years ago, yes?

Sure, there will times when a stronger or more versatile player will blow him off the court--on grass or any surface. But I always know he'll show up. So it ends up being about his opponent and whether his opponent will have the goods to overcome his persistence. Which is why I tend avoid picking against David at all costs. I certainly won't be picking Jo over him on Monday--that's for sure.

Tomic - 4
Tsonga - 4

... and with the first completed match, 4 Tomics knock out 5 Malisses. Then there were 59 ...

I figured when Tomic smacked Xavier (at least he FINALLY lost), Feliciano had about a 2% chance of beating Kubot.

Prettyboy Lukasz isn't too shabby in the physique department, either.

I was feeling sad yesterday that I had already used Lopez and was forced to pick from Berdych, Fish, Malisse or Tomic. Glad I had to pick Tomic.

Feliciano survives 3rd set tiebreak and we are all still breathing 2 more sets to go

Yeah, breathing. As in "YOU CAN BREATH AS LONG AS THEY DON'T UNPLUG YOU" breathing. :(

Gosh, why haven't I chosen Tomic?!
Wanted to, but at the last moment chickened out. Thought it too risky or something.
Go figure :)

We are at the 50 mark, with Mardy having eliminated Tomas, and his 9 pickers today.

I had picked Tomic, erased that pick, then put in Lopez. I was cursing myself for hours... until I finally breathed at the end. YIKES!!! NEVER go against your first instinct! But, at least it worked out.

I'll have an Updated Picks and Results thread a little later this morning, but to get a count in place for the day:

64 players going into Week 2 - if my math is correct, all 64 made a pick today, so we have nobody on the no-pick bandwagon for the first time in our game.

Today's top picks:

#1: Feliciano "F-lo, he don't know" Lopez, with 35
#2: Tomas "Too Early?" Berdych, with 9
#3: Xavier "Sorry to disappoint you" Malisse, with 5

Our remaining picks on Day 7:

Djokovic- 3
Federer - 2
Murray - 2
Tomic - 4
Tsonga - 4

64-14= 50 players going forward to the QFs. We'll have an Updated Picks and Results thread available later tonight.
