Welcome to the exactly 360 competitors who entered this year's contest! In this thread, you will be able to keep track of your picks, as well as see the, ahem, analyses on the day's picks (it tends to be a bit doom and gloom, but whatever - they're for entertainment purposes only).

And remember, once you're red, you'll be seeing it.

Alright, folks: Here's Beau's Breakdown for Day 1. Good luuuuuuuuuck!

The Bandwagon of the Day (BotD) is:

Miss Elena Vesnina! (47) - She's done nothing since making the final of Charleston this year, and she again draws a hyphenated-surname Spaniard. Remember how she got Soler-Espinosaed at RG? Well, maybe she's just as likely to get Pous-Tioed here.

And the Runners-up are:

Miss Anne Keothavong (38) - Holy crap, people. You ALL realize you're ALL picking against a wild card, right? Are you hoping that Keothavong's British-ness will negate the curse? Best of luck.

Miss Rebecca Marino (34) - Have we ever had this many people pick a Canadian before? Oh, never mind, didn't Raonic's train crash at the French? (That being said, I hope Marino gets through.)

Mrs Kimiko Date-Krumm (32) - Great Grandma Kimiko. Ah the stories she likes to tell us about the good old days when one could just leave their left arm completely limp, as though it were a sewed-on satchel, and still win lots and lots of matches. Then come back about a million years later and win fews and severals of matches. But maybe not this one.

Miss Tsvetana Pironkova (30) - Oh my. I know she made the semis here last year and took a set of Bepa there, and I know that her first round match couldn't be that much kinder (WTH is a Camila Giorgi?), but honestly, girl's won like four matches this year.

And the others:

Miss Shahar Peer (28) - Is seeded. Somewhat inexplicably.

Miss Nadia Petrova (27) - Is she still around?

Miss Daniela Hantuchova (17) - Feels quite a bit early. Her draw's not THAT tough…

Miss Ekaterina Makarova (17) - I dunno. She has a better opponent in McHale than a lot of others in the draw.

Miss Yanina Wickmayer (17) - Wasn't she like, the next big thing? I guess she's still in seeding territory, so that's good. Her opponent is Lepchenko, who had a nice RG, beating Pennetta in 3 and losing to Sister B in 3 in identical scorelines.

Miss Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (11) - Hopes of finding some of that RG magic are the plan, but qualifier Tsurenko sure isn't going to roll over.

Miss Irina Falconi (9) - USA! USA! Seriously, though, she played three great matches to get into the main draw and drew a lucky loser in Canadian Dubois. Canada will have to get (and will get) wins elsewhere.

Miss Sorana Cirstea (6) - Boy, that was some ugly dress, huh? In terms of this match, who the hell knows?

Miss Iveta Benesova (5) - Would-be Venus Defeater at the Australian Open might be a tricky opponent, but I like Benesova here.

Miss Alexandra Dulgheru (5) - Dulgheru is one of my FAVORITE people to pick against in SP's. And I have been successful. Seriously, she's terrible. And you may absolutely NOT try to contradict with that Miami match against Pova. You may not.

Miss Svetlana Kuznetsova (5) - Sure! She's not going that far. Let's just get rid of her. Grand Slam champion what?!

Miss Jelena Jankovic (4) - Ah, so she's been relegated to a Day 1 SP pick now, I see. Frankly, I don't even see her getting by MJMS on Jelena's worst surface.

Miss Monica Niculescu (4) - A terrific pick! A surefire winner! We'll see you all in Day 2, punks!

Miss Roberta Vinci (4) - So, I thought she was awful on this surface, but she kind of did just win a tournament last week, so… maybe I was wrong. Still, if she wins two matches, I'd be shocked.

Miss Vania King (3) - I don't get how Martic wins matches, but she does, and it's always when I think she won't, Here's hoping I'm right about this one.

Miss Aleksandra Wozniak (3) - Good for her qualifying, because her section may have been the toughest of all of them. And she put up a good fight against almost-namesake CaroWoz at RG. A somewhat tricky opponent in BZS, but I'm rooting for her!

Madame Jill Craybas (2) - Grandma Jill. Nice pick, Kirkus! See also: Dulgheru.

Miss Marina Erakovic (2) - Aw I like her. Had little trouble in qualifying. But then, neither did her opponent, Chang. I still like the Kiwi in this one.

Miss Kaia Kanepi (2) - Last year's quarterfinalist (and near-semifinalist - she either had or almost had match points against Kvitova) could easily repeat the feat. Provided she has any match toughness right now. I still like her against Errani, though.

Miss Venus Williams (2) - Well, she's certainly not going to lose to the Akgul whose ranking is apparently high enough to get her direct entry?

And the cheese stands alone...

Miss Sybille Bammer - See Niculescu.

Miss Alizé Cornet - That would be nice.

Miss Petra Kvitova - I have no words. Except for that I'm pissed that of all people, Glatch drew her.

Miss Katie O'Brien - See Date-Krumm.

Miss Tamira Paszek - I tend to like anyone against Morita, but this might be an uphill battle.

Miss Barbora Zahlavova Strycova - See Wozniak.

I can't believe I missed making my pick.

(So far) on day 1, we lost the following:

Peer - 28
Makarova - 17
Cirstea - 6
Craybas - 2
Kanepi - 2
Bammer - 1
O'Brien - 1

From 360 to 304, with 190(!) still needing to make it through day 1... tomorrow.

Bloody Makarova.

Put her butt on the Do Not Play List for Life.

Welcome to Day 2!

We have some numbers here that are obviously provisional and likely somewhat inflated, since we have over half our pool still waiting for their Day 1 picks to complete those matches, but a few ladies put up some quite big numbers today, regardless!

Today’s Bandwagon of the Day (BotD) is…

Mrs Klara Koukalova Zakopalova (57) - What's a Webley-Smith?

Other “top scorers” include:

Miss Zheng Jie (47) - Honestly, why didn't I go this route? I mean, we all love Zuz and everything, but she's won four main draw Grand Slam matches in her career. Plus, this isn't clay.

Mrs Bethanie Mattek-Sands (41) - Will Bethanie let us all down again? Those who've selected here have chosen against both A) an Asian woman (Misaki Doi) and B) a qualifier. *Holds breath*

Miss Sabine Lisicki (26) - She's been playing great tennis as of late, and she's a former quarterfinalist here. Potential second-rounder with Li Na will be tough, but she'll get her chance.

Miss No Pick (16) - These are the sixteen who really wanted to pick Zuz but were scared.

Miss Maria Kirilenko (14) - Other than the French, she's been virtually unable to even buy a win all year. (I guess that was as good a time as any to peak.) Thankfully for her, she's drawn grass-court prodigy Alberta Brianti.

And that’s all who garnered double-digit votes. Here are the rest:

Miss Bojana Jovanovski (9) - Had a great start to the year, but has been much quieter over the past several months. As such, even money against Halep, though I'm leaning a little toward the Romanian in this one.

Miss Ana Ivanovic (7) - Ivanovic/Oudin first round makes me :hyst: because that means that one of them will find the second round.

Miss Jarmila Gajdosova (6) - As mmmm8 mentioned somewhere: Yes. You should ALWAYS choose from a match featuring a Bondarenko. Always. Advantage Jarka, I think, here. I think.

Miss Shuai Peng (6) - Should get by the huh? that is Flipkens (although this is grass, and Flipper's never failed to get past the first round here).

Miss Lucie Safarova (6) - Tomas got to wait around for her at RG this year, but boy does she have a tough opponent in RG doubles champ Hradecka.

Miss Flavia Pennetta (5) - She's had just a horrible last four months or so, but she's just gotta get past Begu, right?!

Miss Dominika Cibulkova (4) - Good things she's fast, because she's gonna be running down Lucic's thumped forehands all match long.

Miss Angelique Kerber (4) - Laura Robson's gonna get plenty of chances to tee off on her second serves. I would normally say here that Kerber is usually a solid first round pick against other un-noteworthy players, but she's been disproving that theory all year long. The Brits might get something to cheer about this year. (At least for one round.)

Miss Agnieszka Radwanska (4) - She'll easily be making the fourth round at least, provided her rackets stay intact.

Miss Samantha Stosur (4) - Yup.

Miss Sofia Arvidsson (3) - Moose and I will see you all on Day 3, suckas!

Miss Julia Goerges (3) - Neither she nor her opponent, AMG, are tearin' it up on the grass, but at least the German has the power to pummel her opponent into suspicion if her game's on. (Or if any member of TaT is within 12.4 miles…)

Miss Coco Vandeweghe (3) - Barf. Here's hoping the Ancient Greek takes it. Sparta!

Miss Heather Watson (3) - Terrible old-lady dress aside, she's got a decent shot to win over Johansson (Mathilde, not Thomas or Pim-Pim).

Miss Marion Bartoli (2) - Plays last year's Junior champ Pliskova, but should get through. I wonder who she pissed off to draw Serena as her top-8 seed, though.

Miss Evgeniya Rodina (2) plays Chanelle Scheepers. Who would choose from this match? LOL. I like it though; it shows chutzpah.

Miss Tamarine Tanasugarn (2) - The Queen of Grass (move over, Williamses… Tammy T's in town!) was forced to qualify (Whoops!) but lost about 3 games in 3 matches and will meet Serena in about five days.

The Cheese stands alone…

Miss Elena Baltacha - Yes, she's had a small degree of success here over the years, and she has a home-court advantage, but Barthel's a qualifier who just made the semis of a tournament, so…

Miss Simona Halep - Contrarian to the Jovanovskis.

Miss Mathilde Johansson - See Heather Watson.

Miss Johanna Larsson - I dunno. Hercog's pretty solid.

Mrs Sania Mirza - I'd have stayed far away from Mirza/Razzano, but that's just me.

Miss Romina Oprandi - This is today's "Six People in Attendance at Completely Uneventful Court 72 Match" match.

Miss Aravane Rezai - Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh? Maybe if she weren't just about the least successful person on tour right now.

Miss Anastasia Rodionova - Marion and Sveta's BFF is a likely victor against the other RG doubles champ Hlavackova.

Miss Yaroslava Shvedova - She's gonna have plenty of time to focus on her doubles. Let’s repeat, Shving!

We are finally finished with all the Day 1 matches involving suicide pool picks (the Day 2 writeup has been fixed with new numbers, as well as some people disappearing) and we have a tally going into "Day 2":

We started with 360 and lost the following:

Peer - 28
Makarova - 17
Falconi - 9
Cirstea - 6
Jankovic - 4
King - 3
Wozniak - 3
Craybas - 2
Kanepi - 2
Bammer - 1
Cornet - 1
O'Brien - 1

From 360 to 283, or about 78% of the pool to make a Day 2 Pick. The beginning posts of this thread will be updated at the conclusion of Day 2 matches.

AGAIN, these numbers are provisional, because Wimbledon is stupid and apparently possibly afraid of dew, but provided all 14 carryover matches go our way, these are the day 3 numbers.

Today’s HUGE BotD is:

Miss Yanina Wickmayer (79) - I sure do believe that this horde will be getting through, but this isn't the most impossible section of the draw to get through if you're someone of her talent.

Other double-digit picks:

Miss Daniela Hantuchova (36) - Did we miss the epic over-three-hour battle to beat qualifier Diatchenko in round one? This is a great chance for Erakovic!

Miss Tsvetana Pironkova (18) - She sure can't complain about her draw. Stupid Petra Martic.

Miss Roberta Vinci (15) - Tough match against Marino (Rebecca, not Dan) coming up.

Miss Svetlana Kuznetsova (10) - Will be the latest Dulgheru-slayer, setting up a match against Tricky Wick.

And the others:

Mrs No Pick (8) - But there were so many good choices! (Kidding. This is a solid strategy right here.)

Miss Sara Errani (8) - Yes. ALWAYS choose from a match involving a Bondarenko.

Miss Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez (7) - It's gonna be a tricky match against Niculescu with lots of slicing and dicing. Go Monica!

Miss Andrea Petkovic (4) - Her draw seriously opened up in about ten minutes the other day. She could easily be the quarterfinalist from this section.

Miss Christina McHale (2) - Finally sealed the deal in a close third set by beating Makarova, and is rewarded by drawing Paszek. She should get through this one, too.

Miss Vera Zvonareva (2) - Yikes. We can't honestly believe she won't beat Pironkova (or Martic) after beating Vesnina, so I guess I just assume that we think she'll lose to Venus in the 4th round.

I’ll take the Camembert, please.

Miss Victoria Azarenka - She's going to be the quarterfinalist from this section.

Miss Monica Niculescu - See MJMS.

Miss Pauline Parmentier plays Pervak. What a dream matchup for these two. Slight edge to Pervak, maybe, for beating the seeded Peer in the last round?

Miss Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova - She's the lucky seed who drew the unseeded Petrova. Hmm.

Miss Venus Williams - She looked great in her opening match. There's going to be a fight to earn the quarterfinal slot for this section.

We started Day 2... yesterday... with 283 left in the pool, lost 16 to Miss No Pick, and these others:

Mattek-Sands - 41
Jovanovski - 9
Kerber - 4
Stosur - 4
Arvidsson - 3
Vandeweghe - 3
Watson - 3
Larsson - 1
Mirza - 1
Oprandi - 1
Rezai - 1
Rodionova - 1
Shvedova - 1

for a total of 89 lost on Day 2, down to 194.

We'll have a Day 3 update... on Day 4, when all those other matches maybe get played.

I dunno… I don’t see many, if any, of these picks losing today. Or, they’ll all lose and prove me wrong. Yet again.

Today’s BotDs are:

Miss Jarmila Gajdosova (28) - These must be the ones who don't think she's going to beat Woz in the next round.

AND

Miss Jie Zheng (28) - Losing five games to the Zuz doesn't bode well for the rest of her tournament… ;)

Other big vote getters:

Miss Ana Ivanovic (24) - Over/Under on fist pumps: 2,357.

Miss Agnieszka Radwanska (19) - Hasn't dropped a game yet, and doesn't have a tremendously difficult section.

Miss Dominika Cibulkova (14) - Had a tough match against Lucic in R1. I think Hercog will be better. Better as in easier.

Miss Maria Kirilenko (13) - I really favor Tammy T in this one.

And the rest…

Miss Lucie Safarova (9) - Had Zakopalova not almost blown it in round one, I would have thought she had a chance. Instead, advantage Crazeh Eyes.

Miss Flavia Pennetta (8) - Sure. If she wins, she won't beat The Maid in the next round.

Miss Caroline Wozniacki (7) - Ba-zing!

Miss Julia Goerges (6) - I wonder if we'll have another Caro/Julia meeting. But this time, it's not on clay.

Miss Shuai Peng (6) - Plays fiery Brit Baltacha - good luck.

Miss No Pick (5) - She's very consistent.

Miss Marion Bartoli (3) - Is riding a lot of momentum, killed her first round opponent, and has a beautiful draw… up to Serena, anyway.

Miss Melinda Czink (3) - Should be able to follow up her upset of Stosur by beating The Yak.

We started Day 3 with 194 and we lost 8 right off as No Picks, as well as the following:

Errani - 8
McHale - 2
Niculescu - 1
Parmentier - 1
Pavlyuchenkova - 1

That leaves us with 173 eligible to make a Day 4 Pick. Quite a bit less carnage than in the first two days! (Though we have quite a bit to make up for it on Day 4, which I will post as soon as it finishes.)

I've saw her live in New Haven last year and wasn't overly impressed with anything about her game but her grunt. She's a lefty and her forehand can be pretty big at times, but she's also prone to error-fests which she can turn on mid-match. I saw her play a pretty solid first set against Dushevina and then lose the next 2 sets 1 & 0.

We started Day 6 with exactly 60 left in the draw (28 of whom need Schiavone to beat Paszek - they're starting at 2-3, Schiavone serving, in the third...) and we lost 4 already to Mrs No Pick. The other 56 picked as follows:

Today's BotD, Miss Shuai Peng (25) easily took the first, but is down a break in the second. Haven't we learned not to pick against Melinda Czink?

Miss Sabine Lisicki (15) - Certainly should be among the easiest matches of this section, but one wonders how far she can go with that rocket launcher serve.

Miss Marion Bartoli (9) - I've been down on Pennetta all tournament, but the way that Marion almost lost to Dominguez Lino doesn't instill a whole lot of confidence. 5-5 in the first.

Miss Ana Ivanovic (4) - Quietly moving through the draw (well, in one aspect at least), and finds herself in a winnable section, if she can keep finding ger game.

Miss Julia Goerges (2) - She's serving up 2 breaks in the second after losing the first to Cibulkova.

Miss Caroline Wozniacki (1) - I dunno, I think more and more that, grass or not, she's got the potential to win this whole thing.

I have the sense that these things are getting harder and harder.

I have the sense these things make no sense.

Good luck, 23, and thanks Moderators/Contest runners - I've had a blast hanging out with my tennis peoples.

I was bored ... not to steal beau's thunder ... by my count, we have:

Lisicki - 10 (through)
Wozniacki - 8 (up a set, on serve in the second)
Paszek - 3 (through)
Sharapova - 2 (through)

So it appears that if Wozniacki closes out Cibulkova, we lose no one on Day 7. But Serena has match point against as I write this; that might mess up someone's plans. (Though let the record show I had her losing to Bartoli in my draw. If only Schiavone had come through ...)

Serena's losing would probably be a lot bigger deal if the draws hadn't converged...we should still be mostly safe...especially if we haven't used Bartoli.

I am REALLY looking forward to this weekend! Looking at the obstacles remaining, I think we have about a 70% shot at 1-2-3-4 in the men's semi's for the second GS in a row! I can't imagine the last time that happened.

EDIT: how did this end up in this thread? I am having a dopey Monday morning :)

Looks like we're on the way to losing 7

Wozniacki will never win a grand slam, what an embarassment

I'm not happy to go out, but I knew (for myself anyway) I was taking a chance with Caroline. So, no complaints. Good luck to those still in this SP and I hope to make the second week of the USO on both sides!

Yeah I don't think most of us left should be too bad. I have 6 of the remaining 8 people left to pick from and only 3 picks to go - and the only ones I've burnt are Lisicki and Pironkova. As long as neither makes finals I'll be ok...if I pick right of course.

For the love of god...when are we gonna have an updated thread? :) I'm almost more excited at the prospect of making that then of winning the whole thing!

Expect one tonight, PT. Beaujarkko is travelling for work this week, and trying to get things done in between other commitments. Sadly, TAT can't afford to hire us full time to run games.

:) I'm just teasing (well...not teasing about the being excited about and updated thread - I figure as long as I make one a year I'm doing ok.)

Thanks, Moose! I'm on lunch break right now, so we'll see if I can't get all caught up.

---END OF THREAD---

I will be creating an updated thread as soon as possible. The Wozniackied will be on it. (It was supposed to go up last night, but I was worn out from a long day of cross-country travel, sightseeing, and tennis. Whew.
