Congratulations to Charlie02123 on our first perfect round since the 2010 Australian Open! He leads the way after the first round with an even 20 points.

Garp6 and French Open champion Martini4me are tied for second with 19, hot on Charlie's heels.

We have a huge number of contestants (14 out of 38) with more than 15 points. That's unprecedented in this contest. Then we've also got people like me who can't even make it to 7. D'oh!

We'll see if those who scored high in the first round can keep it up.

Wow! I didn't know it was that rare.

Perfect score! Nice work, charlie.
It's actually a bit of a "cheat". I make my picks trying to get as many as possible three or four rounds in, but I don't look to get the actual wooden spoon. It's frontloading, basically.

My new #2 guy already won, but he (Haase) is on my Green Acres team, so I forgive him. My #2 woman and #1 guy have already lost, and the rest have yet to play. Fingers crossed!

After round 2, Martini4me is in the lead with 32 points. He managed to escape the loss of many picks that others experienced in the round.

Three players--Charlie02123, deelighted2, and Ribbons--are tied for second with 30. No one else is within 5 points of Martini4me.

2 players have already run out of picks, and many others are below 15 points, an unusual occurrence in this contest.

After round 3, no contestant has more than three picks remaining. That did not prevent some from attaining high scores though.

Martini4me retains the lead with 43 points. He is in a good position to complete the French Open/Wimbledon double which has been accomplished twice before.

deelighted2, often near the top in this contest, sits in second with 41.

Charlie02123 and Ribbons remain tied for third, but they will likely fall off the leaders' pace soon.

It looks like deelighted2 is going to overtake me, and still have three picks (for 11 points) going strong. S/he is likely going to lose the Kvitova pick next round, but would stay one point ahead. We both have the same #1 WTA pick, so it will likely come down to our #1 ATP pick. I currently have Tsonga (to lose to Federer); deelighted has Fish (to lose to Nadal).

Ribbons is in 3rd, but is 11 points behind deelighted2 and is out of contention to win the contest.

DdVogt, mmmm8, and garp6 all have an outside shot at winning if everything goes their way in the last few rounds.

The quarterfinals have eliminated two of our contenders, and most of the remaining picks.

Deelighted2 is still in the lead with 56 points, and has the inside track to the medal. He will absolutely win if Murray loses in the men's final to Djokovic or Tsonga.

Mmmm8 is in 4th with 42 points, but had the highest total this round. She will win if Tsonga loses to either Nadal or Murray in the men's final.

Garp6 also still has a chance, though currently sitting only in 7th with 39 points. He will win the contest if Azarenka loses to either Lisicki or Sharapova in the women's final and Nadal defeats Murray and either loses to Tsonga or Djokovic or defeats Djokovic int he men's final. He will tie with deelighted2 if Azarenka loses to either Lisicki or Sharapova in the women's final and Murray defeats Djokovic in the men's final.

Martini4me, still currently in 2nd, has been eliminated with the loss of all of his picks. Ribbons is in third but shares his remaining pick with deelighted2 so is not alive for the medal.

If 4m8 only scored 5 points in the QF's and there are only 2 rounds remaining, how can she score 17 points in the last two rounds to overtake the current leader [assuming the leader is shut out of the SF's and F]?

Oh, well, I keep getting so very close! If Murray d. Nadal and then Tsonga or Djokovic d. Murray, I'll have the satisfaction of having guessed the ATP wooden spoon two Slams in a row. If Nadal wins his SF, I end up with a higher score in Green Acres. And I'm delighted Petra, Domi, and Karol made it past the rounds I thought they'd lose.

I'm glad someone's there to think through my point standings in more depth than I have :cheesy:

I think it's because I have 2 people left still. and they contrast the one Deelighted has left and I'm only 11 behind (12 to overtake). There's a bonus for picking the actual wooden spoon.

Here's the detailed explanation from the How it Works thread, though m8 said the gist of it:

BONUS POINTS: At the 2009 US Open, a bonus point system was initiated. Bonus points were awarded to anyone who picked the actual Wooden Spoon Winner(s) (unfortunately no one did for either men or women). That system will still be in place at the 2011 Championships, Wimbledon. There will be a 5 point bonus x the weight of pick.

#1 confidence pick = 5 bonus points x 4 = 20 bonus points
#2 confidence pick = 5 bonus points x 3 = 15 bonus ponits
#3 confidence pick = 5 bonus points x 2 = 10 bonus points
#4 confidence pick = 5 bonus points x 1 = 5 bonus points

M8's remaining men's pick would give her a 15 point bonus, putting her ahead of deelighted2.

Thanks for the explanation

In an unprecedented occurrence, all picks have been eliminated after the semifinals. This has not happened since I've been helping with this contest (2009 AO), and I wouldn't be surprised if it's never happened. The last time no one picked a Wooden Spoon winner on either side was the 2009 US Open, which was coincidentally the first time that bonus points were in play for doing so.

All four halves of the draws were represented in the semifinals. At least one person each had a pick represented by Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Maria Sharapova, and Petra Kvitova, but each of these players won their semifinals. That brings us to the end of the contest.

Even more surprisingly, we've finished up this contest before either of the suicide pools! I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but it's surely never happened before...right?

A wrap-up will soon be posted in another thread.

So the real Wooden Spoon goes to...Drop-shot?

What a wonderful contest this is, win or lose, or lose and win, thank you for all the hard work Togtdyalttai and Omegadoom!

Aaarrgh, Tsonga, why did you have to come back to beat Fed? With J-W losing that match, and then Fed losing to Djokovic, I would have been clear in first place. And then I just needed Nadal to beat Djokovic to pick up the wooden spoon, too.
