View Full Version : The IW/Miami Losers Lounge is...

OPEN FOR BUSINESS :)

Even though it's practice, we still need a friendly spot in the Tataverse (that's Tat-a-verse, not Tata-verse, a place where Simona Halep and Tamira Paszek can be spotted walking abreast) to crash land after elimination from the game. Best of all, with a combined Indian Wells/Miami Losers Lounge, you have the chance to land here up to 4 times in the next couple of weeks!

If past years are any indication, this place will start filling up around 3:30 Eastern/12:30 Pacific time tomorrow. Hopefully, our good barkeeps Jessie and Morct, will have finshed unpacking the glasses, tapped a couple of kegs, and be ready to console you on that "looked so brilliant last night, but in hindsight what a dumb, dumb" pick that landed you here in the first place.

Guess I just volunteered myself? Anyways, here's my (unofficial) count for day 1 - I didn't double check, or check names...just counted picks. Not even going to pretend I could make anything as funny as beau's daily summaries.

15 - Safarova
13 - Dulko
9 - Mirza
6 - Zahlova Strycova
4 - Mattek-Sands
3 - Ondraskova
2 - Cornet
1 - Bacinsky
1 - Schynder
1 - Bammer
1 - Vandeweghe
1 - Sevastova
1 - Date-Krumm
1 - Cirstea

We only lost 2 of 59? With all unseeded women? How is that even possible? Is that our best % for a day one ever or what?

If I'm still not lazy later I may do some counting for day 2 as well.

No, don't even try. Beau's just too good.

And, I would think that has to be. That's a ridiculous percentage for such a bunch of toss-up matches. Of course, it just led me to the day 2 slaughter.

4 - Benesova
4 - Safina
4 - Chakvetadze
2 - Szavay
1 - Morita
1 - Marino
1 - Amanmuradova
1 - Kerber

Looks like we lost at least 8 to no pick as well. Looking a little more like a normal SP.

2 - Chardy
1 - De Bakker
1 - Lopez
1 - Mello
1 - Mayer
1 - Nishikori

If I counted right we have 5 no picks as well. Once again, Lu proved to be a suicide pool killer, especially against former #1s. The three Davydenko pickers are still sweating out their match. I just can't believe some people picked him...what were we...I mean they thinking? ;)

You are partly right, Ponchi - I had to go to the archieves to check.

ElisatT beat the ladies draw at Miami last year (so did MWoods), and won the mens game, though she only got to the semis (who would have thought to save Ljubicic?).

Suliso won our Mens' Indian Wells after 6 days of playing. And Foxy and HurricaneJeanne won our Womens IWSP.

I was at Zheng's doubles match at IW - she played with Latisha, against Dani "Damn Net" H. and Radwanska the Greater. I am pretty much convinced that at this point, Zheng is immediately behind Ana as the most beautiful woman in the WTA. But even that was not enough to get me to pick her.

I sat through the 2nd set of Simona's match against MJMS at IW (only because they were on court immediately before PEHK, and I figured if I got there early enough, I would be courtside, and would keep the seat for Kohli's match. Not only was I correct - there were only about 8 people at the match).

Maria bagelled her. Simona was horrid. Just wretched tennis.

I really believed Radwanska the Lesser was about the safest pick on today's schedule. Good to know that after 7 years, my logic is as faulty as it was the first time we played this game.

Jessie, I'll have a freshly squeezed lemonade with a shot of fresh lime - Scotty and I found the greatest lemonade stand at Indian Wells, and I had one of these every day. And put it on Jill Craybas' tab.

Jessie, I'll have a freshly squeezed lemonade with a shot of fresh lime - Scotty and I found the greatest lemonade stand at Indian Wells, and I had one of these every day. And put it on Jill Craybas' tab.
Scotty told us about it in chat. Sounds like I'll need to stop by that stand the next time I'm at IW :cheesy:

Here you go!

Or winning together on Day 1, as we seem to be struggling to get anyone else through so far.

We've already lost more than half of the players in the mens game, and there are still a lot of matches to be completed.

Just sayin'...

Risky pick. I deserve it.

But what about Ljubicic? He lost to someone I had never heard of. Talk about downward spiral.

No - Waylandboy-Tw picked Sock in the 2nd round of our 3rd Annual USTA 14 and under Bradenton SP a few years back.

And then regretted not saving him for a later round :)

Somebody had to be first. :o

Actually, I thought he had a decent shot to win today. Berlocq is no world-beater (although he has somehow managed to become ranked 71). And it looks like it was a competitive match, so I don't go out in shame.

Ok, a new way to lose.
Just read the OOP thread, see that the main courts start at 1100, bit don't go further and read that the outside courts start at 1000. Forget that there was a DST change a few weeks ago, and voila! wake up late to make the pick.
By now, I have lost in any possible way in this game. And I was still alive in both. :(

And...I'm out.

I hate when you pick a top player because you don't think they're going to go deep...and they prove you right - only a round early. Especially when it's your favorite player. Nothing good for me ever comes out of picking for or against Roddick it seems.

David's injury was above the shoulders. ;)

Seriously, he double faulted twice at 5-all, I think, to get broken, lost the set, and never recovered mentally. and Mardy was just solid as a rock.
