I don't know if there's anything to this. National hero in Oz.

Looks like another leak from the very leaky L'Equipe newspaper.

One of the world's most successful Olympians, Australia's swimmer Ian Thorpe, is being investigated by doping authorities after a suspicious drug test result just before his retirement last year.

As far as L'Equipe goes...

[smiley=vomit.gif]

How does a newspaper like that get away with a, at best, 50/50 record in reporting the truth about people being caught using doping? They name names in cases like these without any regard whatsoever for the athlete(s) involved and what it means for how they're perceived within not just their own, but the sporting community as a whole. And what about even the casual reader of news like that? It sticks in people's minds, and for years and years afterwards, even if there was no wrongdoing whatsoever, when someone hears a certain name, they'll be thinking/saying "wasn't he/she caught cheating?".

I wish some of the people implicated by L'Equipe would hire a bunch of really expensive bloodthirsty lawyers and sue the (*&@^ out of 'm.

Who's next? I'm waiting for that paper to say that more tennis players are on steroids.

rough week for the Thorpedo. He's had to deal with this, as well as having to do a long interview with the Australian press to silence some long-standing questions about his sexuality, as well as his work out habits (or lack thereof).

The date on that is August 2006? He did end up retiring last fall.

Didn't even notice that, M8. It was on Yahoo Sports this week.
