View Full Version : 'Mystery Candidate' Wins Without Campaign
SANTA ANA, Calif. - Steve Rocco didn't file a candidate statement or mount a campaign for the school board. He's unknown to teachers and the district and only barely known to his neighbors. Nonetheless, the man being called a "mystery candidate" easily beat an opponent who is active, and relatively well known, in the Orange Unified School District. Now all that's left is to find him.
"Absolutely nobody, but nobody has seen this guy," said Paul Pruss, a middle school teacher and the president of the union. "The whole thing is just bizarre."

Must be the cheapest campaign for a winner ever. ::)

He didn't do any work, other than signing up... only time anyone sees him is an ocasional sighting of him riding his bike.. his profession was writer/educator though none of that has been confirmed...
AND HE WON 54% OF THE VOTE??!!
I am beside myself.

I knew it!!! He is probably the start of a sleeper cell for terrorists..or maybe the Antichrist, or, or...Ronald McDonald. Leah_Jewel, it just goes to show you that politics can b real screwed up at times. Since you are beside yourself, I will stand next to you as your pal in bewilderment.

There have been many times in my voting past when I have not been familiar with a candidate and just voted Demo ... I mean, when we're talking Judges or School board members and the like ... who has the needed time to really find out about these yahoos?

Bastien, I must admit my surprise at someone who was so verbose during the entire election would be so apathetic towards these 'yahoos.' I mean, these people make important decisions in the local community that affect you and everyone else.
I just think the whole idea of people voting, by that wide of a margin, for someone they don't even know is sad. And thus, I remain standing besides Gerna as we have now become the Bewilderment Twins. Our first single, "what the crap were these people thinking?" will be in stores around Christmas time.

I'm just being honest.
Go ahead, tell me that you've had the time to research every last candidate on every ballot that you have ever cast, and I'll go ahead and say that you're a better person than I am. I know you're a relatively new voter, but from my experience ... there are times when you'll have to vote partyline by default.
I have not, do not, and will not have the time to do the necessary research to vote for my Police Chief!

Well considering I've only participated in one major election, then I'll make a button that says "I'm better than Bastien" but only because you said too. ;D
I was trying to get a dig at ya anyways. And I only do that to people I like. So it's kind of a compliment. In a weird, twisted, Leah kinda way.
When I'm confronted with unknowns in a local election, I just refrain from voting and hope those who do know will elect the best candidate.

To Leah_Jewel: A song sounds just fabulous, but let's take it one step further. Since we are talking about politics, we should run in an election under a new party line. You being the Jewel and myself being the Gerna, we will rise and shine above all who would oppose us. We could call our new party line the...Glimmer. As I sit here looking at my screen I have no clue where I am going with this, so let's just sing.

Me too. I feel better voting my party if I don't know the candidates rather than not voting for anyone. In fact I remember doing that this past election... this crap just snuck up on me while I was in the booth.
Then you run into the positions that aren't affiliated with a political party. In that case I vote for the person with the prettiest name.
