Here's to the 376 players in the 6th annual Wimbledon Men's Suicide Pool! :overhead_clap:

Traditional rules apply. Be sure to check in here once we get into the 2nd round to avoid the dreaded "double pick" elimination. And the laughs that accompany same.

We all know what comes after..."once you're red...'. See you in the Loser's Lounge.

and our Day 1 counts look like this:

We've avoided the dreaded "bandwagon overload" on Day 1. No one player has more than 46 backers, which has to be a big relief to those French players who saw the top bandwagon go down day after day after day.

Today's top picks: Michael (Mika) Llodra: 46 Coming in right behind Mika, the ever adorable enjoyable Philipp "PEHK!" Kohlschreiber with 42 selections. Third top selection, Jurgen "the" Melzer, at 31.

The rest of our choices are well split amongst the players. Sadly, some of them are allready on a plane home, dashing the dreams of our SP crew. Unless your dream is to sit in the Losers Lounge for the fortnight. If that's the case, cheers!

The remaining picks on Day 1:
Andreev: 15
Ball: 4
Beck: 7
Becker: 23
Berdych: 1
Bozoljac: 2
Cilic:3
Davydenko: 4
Dent: 24
Fish: 30
Gabashvili: 9
Hanescu: 17
Hewitt: 19
Huta Galung - 1
Ilhan: 5
Ljubicic: 22
Lopez: 14
Monfils: 8
Montanes: 1
Robredo: 7
Roddick: 1
Schuettler: 11
Tipsarevic: 5
Troicki: 12
Wawrinka: 11
Zeballos: 1

I think you're just a tad too late. Read the FAQs and pinned threads. It's not too hard to understand.

Ouch!

Loobie goes down.

Playing an unheralded player. Big serve. Looked good.

But alas, I should have picked Fish.

Sorry to all the disappointed Falla pickers out there.:)

Sorry, Queens. When play began this morning, we close the game. But please come back and join us for our 6th annual US Open Suicide pool, which will begin in late August.

Since he was so put out by the difficulty of the website, maybe we should make an exception and let queen78's pick stand for the day.

.....and welcome to the loser's lounge Mr. 78 - thanks for participating in your first pool. See you at the USOpen

Hi, I just noticed I'm marked in this thread as picking Melzer on Day 1. However, my pick in the Day 1 thread was for Benjamin Becker.

I only say that because in my mind it was Loobie - Fish - Loobie - Fish.

Ahhh! I'm out. No crying.

Loobie is someone you think would do extremely well on grass, but you look at his record and it's pretty bad.

Loobie is someone you think would do extremely well on grass, but you look at his record and it's pretty bad.

I've retired him from SP use because he gets injured every third week these days.

A full Day 2 update will follow later ths morning (the job gets in the way this morning). Our top picks look to be Philipp Petzschner and Andreas Beck, with Simon, Bellucci, Benneteau and Baghdatis also popular.

If you think your name was not updates (looks like 17 no picks today), leave a note, and I will look for your post when I am back on line in about 3 hours.

307, minus 17 non-picks, leaves us 290 starting the day. I'm updting from the road, without access tthe Spreadsheet, so the counts for today's picks may be off by one here and there, but are pretty accurate.

Top pick today..Andreas Beck (first time for everything, I guess), followed closely by Philipp 2.0 Petzschner, with 45. A warning - if Petschy goes up two sets to love, be very afraid. He's done that at the US and the French this year, only to lose the match in 5.

In 3rd today, Gilles "back from injury, not back to the top 10" Simon, with 30.

The remaining picks for today:

Benneteau - 23
De Bakker - 18
Blake - 16
Bellucci - 15
Baghdatis - 13
Garcia Lopez - 13
Querrey - 12
Nieminen - 11
Chardy - 7
Isner - 6
Almagro - 4
Dodig - 4
Kubot - 3
Verdasco - 3
Granollers - 3
Murray - 2
Tsonga - 2
Youzhny - 2
Russell - 2
Dolgopolov - 2
Mathieu - 2
Nadal - 1
Ferrero - 1
Ferrer - 1
Koubek- 1
Riba-Madrid - 1
Fischer - 1

Redding of today's picks will not happen until late today - I'm in transit from East to West Coast today. But we'll have them done by the end of the day.

Good luck, everyone.

Oh bother. It looks like he withdrew after the day's play began, so it might be a different scenario than the others... I'll definitely bring this up with Moose and shtexas who have been doing this longer than I have :)

Why is the youzhny match not in the schedule??????????

The Youzhny match is not on the schedule because it's the match that is opposite the Thiemo de Bakker vs. Isner/Mahut match and therefore it'll be played tomorrow. It is still a valid option; those who chose Youzhny will have to make a pick for tomorrow still and win both. There's some verbiage about it in the Men's Suicide Pool Pick Announcements thread.

Today's top pick, Thomaz "what was the "z" rule in SPs?" Bellucci leads the pack with 44 players counting on a Brazilian on grass. Second is American "Sam I Am (showing up at a Slam") Querrey, with 34. In third, Gilles "I'll take Marchenko in the second round anyday" Simon, with 29.

Rest of today's picks:
Seppi: 20

Fognini: 7
Tsonga: 3

Yes, the Simon pickers are through. No official word of the retirement by Marchenko was released prior to start of play/thread closing, so it is a different scenario than where an anouncement is made well in advance, and we can post notice publicly. We have always allowed a walkover winner to advance when the anouncement of the retirement comes to us after scheduled start of play

Through Day 4 (but still waiting on the result for 16 Youzhny pickers), we have gone from a starting group of 376 players to 173. We've lost 203 players so far, which represents about 55% of the original group that started the game on Monday.

We start the day losing 2 to no pick, and 2 (sadly) to double picks - remember everyone, there is the Picks and Results thread that we update daily with all your previous selections. That way you can easily check what players you have allready used, and avoid the dreaded double.

for our remaining 171 players:

Leading pick for the day, Florian "Oscar" Mayer, with 67 selectees. Mayer, third round of a Slam, on grass? Good luck with that, everybody :)

Coming in at the two spot, Novak "I am the THREE SEED Djokovic, with 36, followed closely by Tomas "Desi" Berdych, with 33. Too early for these two? Perhaps yes, but when you look at the other available choices, today's picks might be more a reflection of the desire to live to see another day in our game.

Remaining choices:

Hanescu: 15
Lopez: 6
Hewitt: 5
Melzer: 4
Brands: 3
Roddick: 1

We'll definitely be saying farewell to a few players today, with some folks on each side of Lopez/Melzer, and some on both sides of Hanescu/Brands.

If Djokovic plays to his capability, he will take out Hewitt and Roddick. People forget how good he is because of his recent serve problems.

Of course, I would have been better off taking Djokovic today anyway since Mayer crashed and burned. He must have been injured from the start because he's actually an excellent grass court player. It's by far his best surface even though his game isn't big.
