Greetings!

The pub is open and already ready already, so for those of you (like me) who are anticipating a quick Suicide Pool end, maybe you want to scope out your table in advance. There's a lovely one right over... theeeere... that looks like it has plenty of room for the friends who will be joining you, and YES!, it is definitely in Tatiana Golovin's section. The only question now is, do you start small, or do you go big right away? The choice is yours.

Our faithful staff is always on hand to help you drown your sorrows. The amazing Jessie will be tending bar, Tati will of course be taking care of the tables, the infamous Jukebox From Hell is more than willing to take your quarters as you order up a guilty pleasure to go with your Stella Artois (or whatever cures your cold) and Danny Dartboard is just waiting for you to hang up a crudely-drawn representation of whoever knocked you out as you hurl dart after dart (the sharp-tipped metal kind, of course) at him. Of course, there's bound to be quite a line as inevitably some of our major bandwagons crash, so maybe you can just all shoot at once. Hey, it gets you to the drinking faster...!

In our little game here, it is imperative to remember that if you are out of one pool, you are "half-cheeked" and free to order, but when you are out in both (as 99% of us will be after Day 1 at some point), you are "full-cheeked" and have full reign to be as miserable and depressed as you want. After all, you're bound to have plenty of sympathy here. Commiseration FTW!

And just to get us started, here's one of my favorite guilty pleasure songs, one that wasn't released until the second ABBA Greatest Hits album. Enjoy!

I'm probably going to miss the pool this year as I will be on vacation at the beach for the first week of Wimbledon. I'm trying to be sad about it, but I just can't ;)

I have an out-of-town wedding the middle weekend. I was going to skip the SP, but I decided to at least start it and just pick by the seat of my pants. No obsessing this time. No expectations or disappointments. That way, I'll probably be out by the time I leave. If not, I can pick on Friday if the thread is up before I go and since there's no play on Sunday, I can be back that night to pick for Monday. RIGHT! LIKE I'M STILL GONNA BE IN IT BY THAT TIME.

Sorry for Baltacha pickers. Got to see her at IW this year, and I thought she made Murray look like "the friendly Scot" by comparison.

Wow, I need something. PetKo let me down and of course surprise surprise Blake let me down. I should have picked Xavier like I was going to. I thought he'd be up for another round of course. An Irish car bomb sounds good. But I'd like a cape cod.

*And who is Monica Niculescu?? Dulko isn't bad but I didn't see that match..

Niculescu has a funny, interesting game. I saw her battle Szavay for about two and a half hours at Wimbledon a couple years back. She was really focused and reminded me a little bit of Santoro. I thought it might be trouble for Dulko since Niculescu seems to have a game that could be good for grass, and she had no trouble in the qualifying.

Yesterday everything was fine. And today I have two throbbing tender full cheeks of tennis embarrassment.

Of course, I should have known that making the final of Eastbourne, and going up two sets to love was a sign of pure unbridled doom for Garcia-Lopez against a guy with a career total of one (1) ATP tour win to his credit (if wimbledon.org is to be believed). That was just crazy gambling on my part, and frankly, I deserved to go down in flames with such wanton irresponsibility.

(On the other hand I'll admit that I was tempting fate by picking Petkovic over Chakvetadze.)

I need something layered and strong. And preferably something which is not an onion.

Beginners (bad)luck... my first (but not last) try at the SP..

Got through the first day in the men's (I won't mention the fact that Baltacha somehow lost on day 1) I then made the mistake of thinking Mr. Baghdatis was a safe pick yesterday against Lucas Lacko... in fact I was thinking of not picking Baghdatis so i could pick him later in tournament. I should have gone with my instinct.

Great fun though! Bring on the US Open. Maybe one day i'll get to day 3..

I think it was dumb because it was so risky. I was playing the draw instead of really taking the matchup into account. Any scrub who beats GGL on grass has to be taken seriously.

:flipoff:

Seriously, Slutty Domi was up 4-0 in the first and lost the set. Also Morita hasn't come close to beating a top 50 player all year. But was there a safe pick today that wouldn't come back to bite you later?

Funny thing is on the men's side, I wouldn't have touched Seppi with a ten foot pole because to me he has been so unpredictable no matter who he is playing. So I went with the Brazilian on grass.

I think Sharapova is the perfect pick for the NEXT round. I just decided to be safe and choose her now.

If I survive Day 5, when Day 6 comes I think I have to pick whoever I think will win their 3rd round match, but lose in the 4th round battle between Wozniacki and Azarenka.

Now, where's that bartender???
The bartender was taking a nap after only having 3 or 4 hours of sleep. :p

Like so many men before me, I've used up Domi and no longer have a need for her. Let me know, and I'll join you for the stomping.

DAMMIT DANIELA! Some people you just know you shouldn't pick no matter how juicy the matchup.

Of course, the funny thing is given how I've been doing in SPs this year...Day 4 seems like a good result for me...Sheeze. I honestly believe somehow I am getting worse at SPs.

I KNOW I am.:(

But, I cannot be too sad because this is my second time playing and I have done considerably better than my first attempt during this past French Open! For the French I was out on the first day for the men and on the second day for the women... that was sad. I have gone much farther in the tournament this Wimbledon and am still in the men's draw! I KNEW it! Bloody Jankovic!!

"Clearly you did not", I hear you say, "or you wouldnt have picked her". Right you are, I suppose. Still, if not actually disgruntled (having made it to the second week), I am far from being gruntled by this unpropitious turn of events.

Well, if there's any good to come of it, at least I will revel in the companionship of the likewise defeated and dispossessed, as we drown our collective sorrows with repeated administrations of the palliative preparations of mix master Jessie, for as the man-about-town has been known to say, "I feel sorry for people who dont drink. When they get up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day."

Yesterday, I ordered a Coke (to keep my head "clear" since I was still in the women's SP). Now I'm out of both, so I'll take anything you've got, but make it a stiff one.
All the best to those still in both SP's.
And many thanks to Scotty for running this site. I REALLY enjoy this....it makes the tournaments even more interesting to me to make these daily picks in the SP's.

Well, I know no one's paying any attention to posts made here anymore, but I was away and didnt get a chance, so I just wanted to chime in and thank all the organizers of this loathsome, noxious competition, and congratulate the winners.

This time I actually got to the final, but like so many others was undone by the hapless Fed....who woulda thunk it? I would have picked him for the semis, and then, despite being a huge fan - somewhat less so right now - was prepared to pick against him in the final; I had it all figured out, just like everybody else. Suffice it to say, he's off my Christmas card list! And I suppose Andy Murray will have to wait at least another year for that knighthood. British when he wins, Scottish when he loses.
