Started with 288, and we've already lost 47. A few mini-bandwagons (wagonettes?) crashed early.

Pick of the day was Szavay, with 68 still waiting for her to take the court.
39 Cibulkovas and 35 Pennettas are safely through.
Meusburger the Obscure won her 'eu' battle, taking out 1 Feurstein picker, but sending 35 on to Day 2.
24 Sevastovas are out, as are 17 Martinez-Sanchezes (in the biggest surprise of the day, IMHO). We also lost 4 Vesninas, and a pair each of Azarenkas and M. Johanssons. The lone McHale picker went out, which put both Lepchenkos through.
18 Petrovas are waiting for her match.
14 Kirilenkos, 10 Rezais, 3 Petkovics and 1 Kuznetsova are through.
9 Chakvetadzes are currently battling 2 Kerbers in a 3rd set.

233 made it through Day 1, only to lose 17 to the always tough on red clay No Pick.

Selections were pretty spread out today, with 33 Schiavones, 31 Ivanovics, and 28 Hercogs leading the way through successfully. 16 Parra Santonjas, 15 Dulgherus, 12 Kanepis, and 10 Medgina Garrigueses join them for Day 3.

Sextets of Lis and Radwanskas successfully marched on, joined by 4 Bacsinszkys, 3 Katya Bondarenkos (who clearly like to live on the edge), 2 Safarovas, 1 Dementieva, and a Goerges in a pear tree ...

Kvitova did the most damage, letting down 19 supporters. Zahlavova Strycova took down 4, Dubois outed 3, Errani lost 2, while Benesova and Razzano sent their sole belivers packing.

Still waiting on 15 Kleybanovas, 4 Alona Bs, and 2 Stosurs.

You shouldn't post in the official selection threads (since you're already "dead") but you're welcome to do it in the friendly Loser's Lounge and keep up with the rest of the tournament in that thread. :)

That's OK, Scotty :-) That's a lot of names to keep track of and you're doing a great job!

Thank you for fixing it.

Hey, Scotty,

For consistency's sake, I thought I said 'Bartoli', not 'Sciavonne', for day 3! Could you please doublecheck?

Not that Bartoli is necessarily a smarter choice ...

You did. I just haven't posted the day 3 picks at this time, since they're not closed yet. So ... don't change your pick to Franny for day 3! :cheesy:

15 still to pick for Day 3.

Pre-bedtime contenders for biggest bandwagon are:
32 Peer
30 Zheng
25 Hantuchova
25 Sharapova

More after my morning latte. :)

Sometimes you just have to take a chance in the SP's. Of course it's always better when the chance works out.....

Sometimes you just have to take a chance in the SP's. Of course it's always better when the chance works out.....

15 still to pick for Day 3.

Pre-bedtime contenders for biggest bandwagon are:
32 Peer
30 Zheng
25 Hantuchova
25 Sharapova

More after my morning latte. :)

Final update of picks for Day 3, still several matches on court.

Bammer 2
Bartoli 8
Flipkens 8
Groth 2
Hantuchova 26
Mattek-Sands 3
no pick 5
O'Brien 1
Pavlyuchenkova 3
Peer 33
Pivovarova 1
Rodionova 2
Safina 1
Sanchez 2
Sharapova 26
Srebotnik 1
Suarez Navarro 8
Wickmayer 6
Zakopalova 4
Zheng 35
Zvonareva 8

So far today, it hasn't paid to have a unique pick; we'll see if Pivovarova can reverse that trend. Other damage done by veterans Suarez Navarro and No Pick.

My first "gut instinct" pick for today was Dulko. Decided to switch to Cibulkova- and I'm not all that sure why I switched (albeit Dulko's recent crap clay play did help.) Which means, sometimes it's NOT best to go with your first choice. :freekingout:

Sorry, I've got your pick, and blame Wozniacki/Wozniak confusion for missing it on the re-cap.

One more reminder to today's Wozniak, K. Bondarenko, Li, and Schiavone pickers:

Since this was only your 14th post, I'm going to take it easy on you:) This is way, way too early to be posting something like this.

Yesterday, some Swiss Viking went off about how happy they were that they didn't pick Cibulkova early after dropping the first set, yada yada, and taunted those pickers. Then Cibulkova wins while the Swiss Viking suffered a quick death at the hands of Safarova.

Normally I'd just let this kind of thing go, but since I have Pavlyuchenkova also, something had to be said;)

'Tis true that Crybaby Vera ain't dead yet. (And watch Grandma Jill take all us Pavlyuchenkova takers out tomorrow. GOTTA watch out for karma- gets you in these pools every time.)

I believe BTW that Khethux just meant to reference my earlier post- as in the previous round, I had initially intended to take Dulko, but went with Cibulkova instead. I've just heard so often (such as when taking tests) that you're always better off going with your first instincts- which I have often found to be true. THEN- something like this happens- just to make one feel even nuttier with these contests.

I also BTW found Viking's post to be inoffensive and amusing. (Then again, nelslus has been trash talkin' since he was infant nelslus.) Just sayin'.

Sorry, Charlie, I have done even worse. I must be the only person that has lost THREE times in a suicide pool. I got cheeked on the men's on day 1, rain delayed for the women's, made a selection for day two, and then BOTH GIRLS lost on day 2.

We lost the 18 Amanmuradovas, and the 6 Lis. 1 Petrova halted by darkness at 7-7 in the 3rd, after having saved 3 MPS but failing on 3 of her own.

So here it, is about 6 hours after Amanmuradova lost to Scheepers. And I hope she's still in tears about her loss, because I sure am. How do you beat someone routinely TWICE in a few months before the French and then roll over like a dead dog? Curses.

i know, really hard to understand .. tennis is supposed to be a 'form' game, unlike, say, golf.. if A beats B 3 times, she will very likely beat her the fourth time as well.. I suppose it teaches us nver to rely on unproven, classless (in the sense of not having class!) players, no matter how hot a streak they are on...

So here it, is about 6 hours after Amanmuradova lost to Scheepers. And I hope she's still in tears about her loss, because I sure am. How do you beat someone routinely TWICE in a few months before the French and then roll over like a dead dog? Curses.

Wow, I chose Scheepers not knowing that she had lost a couple of times against Amanmuradova. Otherwise, I wouldn't have taken her. I have never seen Scheepers play, only AA. Every time I see her play I wonder how she can win any match, let alone on clay. So, that was my reasoning. But as you explain, it was just pure luck.;)

Funny how the suicide pool works. Day one a lot of us are taken out by Amanmuradova who beat our pick. Now two rounds later she is taking people out because she WAS their pick :)

Groth 2
Hantuchova 1
Henin 1

Updated. We lost NO ONE to no pick today!

The Groths, the Peers, and the Hantuchova are safely through.

All the Stosurs, and the Henin and Jankovic are currently waiting to get on court.

you can now say goodbye to 4 Kleybanovas, 4 Wickmayers, and 1 Rodionova. If Stosur goes out .... wow

Damn. Well this was my best showing in a women's pool to date.

If Stosur goes out, there's a maximum of 7 left. That just won't happen though.

If she manages to beat Sam, it'll be Anastasia Peewater for the rest of her career. ;)

I just realized the next pick virtually has to come from Groth/Shvedova. Is it to late to switch my pick to Scheepers for an easy out?

Not really, you can pick Henin or Serena if you are confident about the result of their seemingly inevitable QF encounter.

I am still alive, thanks to Schiavone, but my death sentence has already been read and confirmed! no matter what happens now, I am out.. I knew I shouldn't have wasted Pennetta too soon! I'll get the hang of this game some day.. maybe..

Thus my use of "vitrually." Are there many people confident enough about the result of the Henin-Williams quarterfinal? I'm not even that confident about either of their 4th rounds.

I'm closing this thread, to post an UPDATED P&R thread for people who made it to Day 8.

Thanks for playing, everyone! Hope to see you for the Wimbledon SP, Green Acres, and more contests/general fun on TAT!
