I flirted with not advancing him in battle of the boards for that reason. But, one round I thought he could manage.

The Lopez day 2 bandwagon will wake up to a shock. He's already down two sets and a break to a guy who's never won an ATP tour-level match.

Of course, since Feliciano has lost first round six times in nine tries, that was a risky pick against anyone.

Indeed. And everyone knows that if you pick against a qualifier, it's at your peril.

Now, nelslus just HATES looking like one of those OH so many TAT Told-Ya-So Evil Heifers goin', "WHAT were y'all thinking?!?!??!" (and Pool Karma will no doubt get me soon enough), but.....I remember checking the Day 2 thread before going to bed, and going, "DAMN, a ton of people are picking Lopez.....why?!??!?!"

I kept thinking, Feliciano Lopez?!?!? At Roland Garros?!?!??! I mean, Feliciano Lopez pisses me off, and I've never even used him in a TAT Pool. He's pretty much in my TAT Pool DNP HOF.

Hey, how did picking Yani work out for you? ;)

Perilously.

Though I picked FOR the qualifier, not against. Had I done my research to know he'd never won an ATP match before... ever... well, I probably would have done the same thing.

I think it was Chris Fowler who did an interview with Sam and John on Day 1. Sam went on and on about how their goal is to make the year-end event in doubles. This is certainly no way to go about reaching that goal. And it's certainly no way to treat a friend. It speaks volumes about Sam and the fact that he has the heart of a pea and is generally a low-class individual.

This is tough for Isner, that he won't even get a chance to try in doubles. On the other hand, he'll be more rested for his singles matches.

Querry said his coach had noticed that he hasn't had the right spirit for a while, that this has been coming on for some time. He said the next thing on his schedule is Queens, and he doesn't know if he'll go or not. He must be having some serious blues.

The one time we encountered rain that disrupted that much play, we ended up having to cancel one round of picks in the womens game (for some reason, we managed to stay on track with the men). That was the year we had 30 winners in the French womens game that you see referenced on occasion.

So long as they get in the couple of mens matches that need to finish, as well as the four carried over womens matches from yesterday, we will be fine for another days worth of picks.

Vous êtes still in? Si pas, voir-vous en le Salon Des Losers;)

GOTTA co-sign this. Love these posts from gavspen. It'd take me all day to come up with an approximation of one of gavspen's posts.

Plus, gavspen gets bonus points when we find out that he's from some place like Hoboken.

It depends on whether 3rd round matches will be on tomorrow's schedule or not.

Stay tuned!

:(

how will you do it if most of today matches get postponed too ?
do we pick up depending on the round played ?
well i hope your team has a braketology master to run suicide pool in the chaos.
one thing that might happened, is that the 4th rd will start sunday iso saturday, due to a friday and saturday overcrowd schedule.

We've been down this road before. If it gets really backed up, like the whole 3rd round plays Saturday, there will be no Friday pick. But, if they can get to the point that 8 third round matches from the top half of the draw are scheduled for tomorrow, there will be a pick due.

That was how I (and several dozen other TATers) beat the WTA draw here back in 2007! Something like 3 or 4 less picks than normal and a highly predictable Henin over Kuznetsova final.

Waiting on the Official Order of Play, but it looks like there will be third round men's matches tomorrow, and many will have to survive their picks from today and tomorrow.

Be prepared to make a pick. Stay tuned.

With the majority of picks in for day 6, and like day 5, subject to change if we lose some from the carryover matches, the picks currently stand at:

23 Wawrinka
13 Cilic
10 Youzhny
3 Tsonga
3 Soderling
2 Berdych

Day 6: We had 4 no-picks today, so we started the day with 56.

24 Wawrinka
13 Cilic
11 Youzhny
3 Tsonga
3 Soderling
2 Berdych

This still may change as some people still have to survive their day 5 pick.

Update: Everyone survived day 5. Looking good so far for day 6.

Once again, vous me flatterez beyond reason avec les mots très kind, et la suggestion that je sais le français that well! Je suis l'anglais, living in NYC (pour le monsieur qui asked about Hoboken), mais je dig très beaucoup all things français. (After all, il y a un long standing affection entre les Anglais, et les Français, non?...;))

Alors, mon temps ici est over. J'ai flamed out of les deux draws dans le premier week. Holy vache, quite pathetique!!

Je must drag myself up from sous la table dans Le Salon Des Losers, pay mon check, et mes respects à Jessie, hop aboard mon coach et quatre, et off à Calias........

Merci tous, particularment les organizers du pool de self-inflicted mort.

Please, I really want an updated results thread NOW! ;)

21 Almagros and 3 Belluccis through (easily!), 19 Roddicks gone and 12 Ferreros hoping he has enough in the tank to come back from two sets down. end of the first week and we may be down to 24 (which doesn't include me, thanks Gael)? That's unbelievable for such a smart group as us.

The weird thing is, I don't think there have been many huge upsets this tourney (I don't consider Roddick a huge upset cuz it's an American on clay) so why are there so few left?

For the first week of the suicide pool, it's the minor upsets that cause lots of damage. Monaco, Gonzalez, Monfils. None of them were going to win, but they're supposed to be good bets to wins two or three matches.

F. Lo took out 70+. The players that would qualify as huge upsets aren't used as picks in the first week. But lesser players can still be heavy favorites in their matches. Bandwagons form around them, and a few go out.

I was shocked only three people picked Bellucci today.

It seemed like the perfect pick – a good claycourter playing an old man who went deep in the fifth set against Mardy Fish and with no possibility of winning another round since he's got Rafa next.

don't know about "no chance" against Nadal. Maybe very small :) but he's got as good a shot as anyone not named Soderling/Cilic/Del Potro/Querrey (tall guys, big hitters seem to trouble Nadal on clay more than anyone).
